One Fateful Night

I wake up and find myself on the hospital bed. I look around and see that I have been bandaged up and the clock on the wall tells me that it is 3:03 AM. I did not even feel any pain in my wound as if it was just a dream, a really bad dream.

I stand up from my bed and I want to go home very quickly. Mother will be worried sick.

As I walk down, I saw the woman that I tried to save, crying while there is another woman, dressed in black, is consoling her on the far end of the hallway. Then, I feel a hand on my back.

"You should not be walking around just yet, it is a miracle that the knife went through your stomach without damaging any of your internal organs and your spine." said the doctor who is behind me.

The moment when I tried to ask the doctor, I heard a familiar voice.

"Thank goodness you are okay!" she cried with her red eyes as run towards me.

My mother is already here. She quickly hugged me and pushes the doctor a little bit. The doctor nearly fell on her butt.

"Please do not do anything dangerous like that. Please Akira-kun" she said as she still crying.

"I do not know what went through my head at that moment. Sorry for making you worried, okaa-san."

Suddenly, the woman in black talked to me while her friend follows her from behind.

"Akira-kun? Isn't it? I am very grateful for your bravery in saving my friend."

The woman introduced herself while bowing to me and my mother.

"I am Shirokami Sae, a prosecutor and a dear friend for the woman you just saved and please just call me Sae."

"T-thank you for saving me, I d-didn't know what would h-happened if y-you didn't b-break the door"

Her friend quickly thanked me for saving her but it seems to me that she was still shocked by the incident.

"Amy, introduce yourself." Sae-san nudges her friend who forgets to introduce herself.

"I am Tachibana Amy, I work as the head manager at the Gen-X corporation."

I look at my mother and she nods as she is already acquainted with them. She spoke to them while I was in surgery. She was already brief about the situation a few hours ago. But before I could say anything, Sae-san speaks her mind.

"I will pay for all the bills and will help you with whatever you require, Akira-kun. You are still in high school, right? I can give you the recommendation to get you into any university you choose. You just tell me whatever you require. If it is within my power, I will try my utmost best."

"Me too, I will do what I can to..." But Tachibana-san's words were cut short as I can hear Aoi from afar.

"Akira, where are you? Miss, where is Akira? Which room? His name is Yamato Akira. He got stabbed in his abdomen. Can you check where is he? Is he safe? Can you -"

I called out for her before she gets too worried.

"YOU ARE SAFE! OH MY GOD! Aoi's hands are shaking as she walks towards us.

Looking at my mother, she just nods at me, telling me that she already informed my friends about the incident before and after the surgery. The doctor said that I am not in life-threatening danger and Aoi came to the hospital as fast as she could.

"How can you be so careless and dumb!? You know that person is wielding a knife and..." As Aoi started to lecture me, my eyes stare blankly at the wall and I can hear the Misery Goddess's calling to me. "Rest now and I will call upon you tomorrow. I will be waiting for you, my champion."

I snap back to reality as Sae-san snaps her finger near my face and Aoi looks at me worriedly.

"Ah sorry, I must be so tired. I need to go home and rest. I can go home right?" I ask the doctor who just standing behind me.

"You just have an operation and you wanted to go home right away?" the doctor asked me while she smiles. "You do know that you just got stabbed right?"

"Yeah but I feel just fine. I wanted to rest on my own bed." as I check my bandages.

"Well, you can but if your stitches unravel or you started bleeding your guts off, there will be a huge problem. You need to be monitored after the operation." She tells me while looking straight in the eyes.

"Well, whatever, you can go now I guess, do not worry about the details, I will handle it."

"But he just-" Sae-san tried to talk to the doctor but she turned around and walk to the far corner.

The room goes silent.

Aoi begins to ask as she tilted her head. "Wait, isn't this so unprofessional and unethical? What is the procedure again?"

All of us felt like we were left dumbfounded and as if we are bewitched. Without any thoughts, we just go through with the doctor's advice and go home.

"I guess you can go back home now, Akira-kun. If anything happens, you can call this number here on my card. Also please call me back for the compensation for saving Amy." Sae-san gives me her black card where I can see her number.

Too tired to say anything, I just nodded without a thought.

After that, my mother introduced Aoi to both women and they had a talk while my eyes stared at the corner where the doctor went.

In the far corner of the hallway, behind the wall, the doctor's eyes shine with fiery ambers while she muttered, "I will wait for you, my champion. Be ready." The amber eyes go away, leaving the doctor clueless as if she was being possessed.
