Chapter 28: A Confession

It was only moments that Lavinia was gone to get a knife, but Casey felt her heart rate spike. She sighed in relief when the woman returned and cut the ties that held her to the chair.

Casey used her newfound freedom wisely and stood. Her rear was sore from sitting for the better part of the night.

“Lavinia.” She smiled and pulled the taller woman into an embrace. “I’m so sorry.”

She felt Lavinia pull back. The woman put both hands on Casey’s shoulders. “Why are you sorry?” She furrowed her brows.

Casey licked her lips. “I…They could have hurt you! And I was bait…” She leaned into Lavinia’s chest. “I couldn’t escape. I put you in danger, and if you died, it would have been my fault.”

She felt arms wrap around her. “Casey, none of this was your fault.” Lavinia sniffed. She had entered with bloody tears on her face and the stains had remained. “I should be the one apologizing.”
