Chapter 22: The Morning After

Casey awoke to something cold touching her. Slowly, she became aware of her surroundings. The drapes on the windows, the large bed she lay in, all of it was familiar.

All of it was Lavinia’s. The woman was still asleep it seemed. And it also appeared that it was she who woke Casey up. Her cold arm had snaked around Casey’s waist.

Casey found herself tucked securely into Lavinia’s chest, the woman’s chin resting on top of Casey’s head.

She didn’t move and appeared dead. Casey knew she wasn’t but on some level, it was a little unnerving.

‘She’s so pale,’ Casey thought absently as she blinked, looking at her mistress’ face.

She sighed. Wrapped in blankets that heated her from one side, and Lavinia, who was cool, Casey found herself in a nice equilibrium.

And Lavinia wasn’t ice cold. Casey supposed that was because of her own body heat and how close they slept.
