The value of a hero

This is a story about Doryoku Suzuki, a kid whose powerful and uncontrollable quirk gave him many problems throughout his life, and who unlike everyone else, his only dream and goal is to help his mother instead of being a hero. —The story mostly takes place at the same time as when Aizawa was studying at the U.A. —Bnha and the image on the cover don't belong to me obviously. —Any advice to improve the writing is welcome.

The importance of the details

[Monday - 8:00 a.m.]

A few months after all, we can see Doryoku saying goodbye to his mother at the entrance of his house with his green backpack and a blue long-sleeved shirt.

"Dory-chan, have a nice day at school and have fun" said the boy's mother affectionately as she gave him a little kiss on his forehead.

"I'll have it Okā-chan" said little Doryoku smiling slightly and saying goodbye with his right hand which had a very light skin color and a strange black bracelet to then go to his school.

Faced with the weak and discouraged response of her son, his mother could only remember with pain what happened a few months ago.

// Flashback //

After Doryoku's arm disappeared, his mother took him quickly and ran to Hosu's hospital for herself which was not far away.

It was difficult, since she didn't have a car, but she still managed to get the boy running in less than 10 minutes.

Little Doryoku was taken care of quickly and after a night of despair and fear from his mother and without any news, a doctor with black hair and dressed in a white coat came out to give her the news.

"Ms. Suzuki, are you here?" asked the doctor leaving the emergency room as she rushed over to him.

"It's me! How is my son?!" Doryoku's mother asked with much concern and fear.

"Your son is fine Ms. Suzuki, this was all because the boy woke up his quirk" said the doctor with a professional and comforting tone causing the woman to breathe a great sigh of relief.

"Come on, you can pay him a visit now" said the doctor in a calm tone as he pointed to the entrance of the emergency room.

The mother followed the doctor and after walking through the corridors they entered a room, where Doryoku was without his right arm and totally bandaged in what was left of his shoulder.

Seeing her little son in this way and connected to all kinds of devices, hid mother could only cry sadly and in pain.

The doctor allowed the woman to come over to her son and hug him rather sadly, but also relieved to know that he was alive.

After about 30 minutes in which the woman cried a lot until she calmed down, she approached the doctor to find out the details of him without losing her son's of sight at any time.

"The quirk of your son is simply too powerful for any body to contain it" said the doctor directly to the point with a serious and explanatory tone while the mother looked at him a little confused.

"We call it 'kinetic control' a quirk capable of absorbing, storing, amplifying and controlling any kinetic energy that your child receives without any kind of limit" said the doctor seriously as he read what was written in his notebook.

"What happened is that apparently your son received a blow and unconsciously activated it to defend himself, but that caused its subsequent amplification until resulting in the loss of his arm and then fortunately fell unconscious, causing him to deactivate it" said the doctor in an explanatory tone while Doryoku's mother understood everything.

"How can his own quirk doctor hurt him so much? Aren't they supposed to be part of our body too?" the mother asked with concern but also quite confused by that.

It was common for people to have some side effect after pushing themselves a lot, but what happened to Doryoku was too much.

"It is true, quirks are part of the body and the body always adapts to them, something we call post-quirk requirements, but there is no way that your child's body can withstand infinite power" said the doctor with explanatory tone while Doryoku's mother looked quite concerned.

"That is what happens with people who have emitting quirks and shoot fire, which are capable of resisting it, but that does not seem to be the case with your son" said the doctor in a calm tone trying to cushion the blow.

"But not everything is bad, your son did develop a post-quirk requirement" said the doctor with a calm smile making Doryoku's mother look at him expectantly.

"The patient seems to have a greater understanding than any other, I would not say that he is a genius, but it is exactly what he needs to understand how to control his quirk completely" said the doctor with a calm and comforting tone giving a small hope.

"And do not worry, the law says that we must attend to all those who do not have control of their quirk and support them to control it in some way so that they do not harm themselves or others, so you don't owe us anything" said the doctor with a calm smile causing the mother to breathe a sigh of relief that she didn't even know she had.

"How can you help him with his quirk doctor?" Doryoku's mother asked still worried about her son.

"Believe it or not, these cases are quite common, we call them Kyanserus, and normally a black bracelet is used to override their quirk completely along with some extras to suit the wearer, but with a small switch on the back of the bracelet to activate his quirk in a safe and limited way" said the doctor in an explanatory tone as he searched his pocket for a special bracelet.

"Why don't you just cancel it completely?" Doryoku's mother said suspiciously of that bracelet.

The bracelet was pretty simple, but the weird thing is, it had a few holes in it plus a little switch on the back.

"Technically it is illegal to erase someone's quirk completely unless he commits a crime, but don't worry, this bracelet will prevent your child from receiving any harm, and the switch requires great force to operate" said the doctor with a comforting and confident smile while flipping the switch with difficulty.

Even after all this, Doryoku's mother still had one more last worry.

"What about my son's right arm?" Doryoku's mother said with a worried and serious tone.

"I'm sorry to tell you that the law does not tell us that we can help you for free in that regard, even if it seems cruel, you have to pay for that yourself" said the doctor with a darkened look and helpless as he could not do anything about it.

"Some doctors can give your son's arm back, but it requires a lot of them and a lot of money" said the doctor in an explanatory and a little bitter tone.

Doryoku's mother could only sigh sadly at this and say.

"Do it doctor, whatever it takes to make him be completely okay" Doryoku's mother said taking the doctor a bit by surprise and making him smile slightly.

"I can promise you, that I will make sure that everything goes well" said the doctor with a comforting tone and with confidence and then left the room to make preparations.

All the money that Doryoku's father left saved after his death and that were the only savings Doryoku's mother ended up being used on his new arm, which fortunately was a success.

But even with all this, perhaps from the trauma or his new understanding, Doryoku didn't shine as brightly as before.

// End of Flashback //

—With Doryoku—

Doryoku left his home and went to kindergarten.

Said garden was very close, just a block away and without even having to cross the street, so Doryoku always enjoyed the mornings walking there.

After what happened, this would be his first day after months in which Doryoku was resting.

But unlike before, Doryoku did not have the spirit and curiosity common in a child, he only looked at everything once and it was enough to understand.

This made him sad enough, there was no emotion or happiness like before, just a cold 'I see' in his mind that was repeated over and over again.

Doryoku entered the kindergarten and then went to his classroom along with his classmates.

"Doryoku-kun, it's good to see you again!" said one of his classmates, a boy with yellow hair.

"Doryoku-kun, you were at home for a long time I'm envious!" said another of his classmates, a girl with black hair.

'I see' was the only thing that crossed Doryoku's mind again causing his gaze to darken sadly.

"Kids, let's start with the class!" said the classroom teacher, a somewhat older woman with a kind and caring appearance.

The class started and everything went smoothly, the children had fun and learned everything with excitement and curiosity.

After a few hours, it was time to break and unlike before than always played with the others, Doryoku just sat against the wall while he hugged his backpack.

At one point, the teacher went out to resolve some issues with the principal, and the classroom quickly spiraled out of control as usual.

At one point, a group of children approached to talk to Doryoku causing him to look up.

"Hey Doryoku-kun, what is your quirk? I can breathe cold air!" a dark blue haired boy said as he exhaled a wave of cold air.

"I can turn everything I touch into rubber!" said a pink haired girl touching a notebook and throwing it to the ground causing it to bounce several times.

"I-I, I don't know" Doryoku said without wanting to remember the time he used his quirk.

"Ehhhh, then you are a boring quirkless" said a light green haired boy with a mocking tone.

'A quirkless, I wish I had been one' Doryoku thought as his gaze darkened again and he lowered his head again, as well as grabbing his right arm and starting to tremble slightly with fear.

"So that's what you are huh? Not only you are a boring quirkless but you are also poor and your backpack is rubbish" said the dark blue haired boy with a mocking tone when he saw that Doryoku's backpack had several signs of seams.

At this, Doryoku was instantly enraged and stood up abruptly and in annoyance.

"My backpack is not trash! Okā-chan tried hard to fix it!" Doryoku said angrily as he faced the children who were quite scared by his sudden reaction.

"For me!" Doryoku said remembering how his mother got hurt with the needle and he gave her little kisses desperately to heal her.

"For me! Okā-chan's effort is worth more than anything else!!" Doryoku said with total security and force making the rest of the children run away from him scared.

Seeing that everyone had moved away, Doryoku sat back down as he hugged his backpack and anxiously waited to return home.

After a few minutes, the teacher came back and obviously asked for explanations from the children, who blamed Doryoku for everything without him resisting or denying it.

The teacher called Doryoku's mother, who repeatedly apologized and explained what her son was going through.

The teacher understood everything and told her that she would make sure to give Doryoku better attention about his problem.

And after a few more hours, the bell rang indicating the end of the class, to which Doryoku left the room immediately after hearing it.

It was 12:00 p.m. and there were still at least 5 hours until Doryoku's mother come back from her job as a waitress, so Doryoku heated his food in the microwave and ate quietly.

After this Doryoku arranged his room along with his mother's, and sat in front of the computer to draw a little.

But there wasn't a happy feeling about it either, now it was just moving a marker from side to side and filling something in his eyes.

All day he was the same, trying to do the things he always did and like, but realizing how boring it felt.

And when it was 5:00 p.m. the alarm rang and Doryoku could feel that emotion that he always felt when his mother came home from work, which made him very happy.

But time passed and his mother did not come, and it was not only a few minutes, but an hour and a half.

Doryoku felt sadder still, and he could only cry slightly when he saw the delay of his mother.

At 7:00 p.m. his mother came home and she seemed quite tired.

"Dory-chan, I'm here!" Doryoku's mother said as she entered and was hugged by her son.

"Okā-chan, why did you take so long?" Doryoku said quite sad as he hugged his mother.

"Dory-chan, I'm sorry, now I will always have to arrive at this time from work" Doryoku's mother said as she hugged him trying to comfort him.

Doryoku broke the hug and ran to his room in search of something.

His mother got up a little tired and she went to change her clothes as usual.

And when she left her room, there was Doryoku waiting for her, with his computer screen in his hands and taking her by surprise.

"Okā-chan, if you sell this can you come back earlier?" Doryoku said offering his things in exchange for more time with his mother.

At this, Doryoku's mother stroked his head affectionately and said in a comforting tone.

"Dory-chan, if I had to sell your things for anything, I would fail as a mother, please let me effort for both of us" said Doryoku's mother with a warm and loving tone but also with sadness.

"But it's my fault Okā-chan, it's all my fault, if I was a normal child, if I wasn't here, if I could try harder, you would be happier" said little Doryoku with great sadness and guilt as tears came from his eyes.

"Dory-chan, I always effort for you, never say that I would be better without you" said the Doryoku's mother as she hugged him and Doryoku cried still feeling guilty.

From that day on, Doryoku had only one purpose, help his mother, to be able to spend more time with her, and to apologize for all the problems he caused, even if they were never his fault.
