The reason

“Well, I didn't mean to… the nurse” Abigail stammered awkwardly, attempting to get out of the room after barging in on Nathan and Laura kissing. Laura cleared her throat and climbed off the bed.

“It's okay, he's awake,” Laura said awkwardly and Nathan nodded. Abigail nodded and proceeded in

“I came with Adeline and Zoey… they'll soon be here,” Abigail remarked and placed the fruit basket on the table. Laura helped Nathan sit up and then stood beside him.

“I see… How is mom?” Nathan asked, he didn't want anyone telling his mom about the accident. Unfortunately, Carl was the one who told them about it

“She wanted to come, but I asked her to relax… She insisted Nate…she's worried about you,” Abigail said turning to Nathan, it was awkward standing there, especially when Laura was standing close to Nathan protectively.

“She shouldn't worry, Nate is fine…,” Laura chimed in while rubbing her hand on Nathan's shoulder. It was a simple gesture, but Abigail saw something else

“Laura, you should go and rest…” Nathan suggested, Laura was hurt too. She needed proper care, just like him. Laura glanced at him, and she wasn't happy

“I'm fine, I…”

“Please,” Nathan coaxed, leaving Laura with no choice but to obey, she didn't like the idea of leaving Nathan with another woman. But for his sake, she said yes and left the room. Immediately the door closed, Abigail let out a heavy exhale and walked up to Nathan's bed. Both stared at each other when Nathan averted his eyes

“So it's true,” Abigail said, arching her brows at Nathan. She walked in on them kissing, it seemed it was true

“My wife Abi… I'm a man after all,” Nathan said with a grin, he knew what Abigail saw would have anyone asking questions. But truth be, he didn't expect to be so attached to Laura. It happened so unexpectedly that he had no control over what he was feeling

“She's older than you, aren't you bothered about society,” Abigail asked, she wasn't against the idea of Nathan falling in love. But the fact that the woman he was falling for was twice his age.

“Does it matter, I don't think I owe anyone an explanation about my private life,” he didn't owe anyone an explanation over his private affairs, especially something concerning Laura? Age was just a number, at first, he was bothered but after leaving with Laura. He cares less about what others thought of him

“I see… other than that, I have some news,” Abigail said and dug in her purse. It was best she didn't say anything about Nathan and Laura's situation. She came to visit him after hearing what happened to him and Laura

“I asked some friends and I got this… take a look and tell me if it's helpful,” he added and handed Nathan a brown envelope. He scanned it for a while, then took it. There was so much to deal with, one of them was the issue of the elevator incident

“Thanks, Abigail… you are doing me a huge favor,” he was thankful to Abigail, she was a good friend. She wasn't just helping her with his family, but with Laura's issues. Abigail nodded with a smile and took out some food she brought as well as fruits

“Aunt asked me to bring these… She said you should eat and be okay… if not, she's going to come here and force you”,

“The old woman should know I'm a man, not a boy,” Nathan frowned. His mom was impossible. The way she treated him like a child

“Stop it, aunt cares about you… here eat all this,” she handed him a lunch pack, Nathan placed it beside the bed

“Take it, Laura… I'm sure she's hungry,” he suggested, only for Abigail to glance over her shoulders with arched brows. Did she hear right, it seemed this was deeper than she thought? Just then there was a knock and Nathan's sisters came in

He was more than happy to have his family with him, the two girls were loud and kept on teasing him

“Serious bro… you are a hero… you saved lady Laura” Adeline said in between chuckles and Zoey nodded and ate more of the fruits that were put for Nathan.

“Our bro has turned into Aquaman… lay Laura is lucky,” Zoey chimed in and both sisters laughed. Nathan was irritated, but somehow. Deep down, he was thrilled. At least he wasn't useless. As a husband, it was his duty to protect his wife. Which was why he decided to do something about the matter.

When Laura returned to her room, she was greeted by an angry Elizabeth and a shocked Larissa. Both asked her questions, but she ignored them and let the doctor examine her. She was safe, the sooner her family accepted Nathan as their son-in-law, the better. She owed him a lot. He saved her twice, and in all, he risked his life. If indeed Nathan had bad intentions. Then he would have let her die

“I could have saved you myself if you called me,” Jeremy remarked sarcastically as he leaned against the table. The room was stacked with her family members. She wanted to be alone

“Yeah, but you don't trust us… I could have done the same thing, but no… you had to call that man,” Elizabeth said, waving her hands in the air mockingly. They were happy that Nathan saved Laura again. But there was no need to call for him when she had her family to protect her

“Aunt, Laura was scared… I'm sure she was thinking about her husband at that time,” Larissa chimed in while grinning at Laura. The entire thing caused a scare. All her family rushed down to the hospital to see her when Garry and Robert called them

“Stop it, everyone… Nathan is my husband… he saved my life just go and thank him,” she has had enough of her family criticizing Nathan, no matter how many times he showed them, he was a good man. Elizabeth was still hostile even when the man nearly died because of her

“Laura sweetie… you don't know these men. They can pretend like they care when they don't…” Elizabeth said she wasn't concerned with Nathan. He was a good-for-nothing man with no backup. Saving Laura was not a big deal because he wasn't alone. They helped him out. Elizabeth wasn't sure why Laura was praising Nathan so much

“Whatever, at least trust me Laura… hire me back… I need my job back,” Jeremy said too, he was exhausted and wanted his job back…not working at the company he felt like he wasn't as prestigious as he was before

“And what were you doing here… I mean, you came to the hospital… for what?” Camila asked after a while of silence from her. The rest of the family turned to her and nodded agreeing with her question,

“Exactly, why did you come here?" Elizabeth asked, and Laura turned pale. Her hands turned cold, even Larissa had the same question but seeing how flushed Laura was looking, she understood exactly why Laura came to the hospital.
