Chapter 22

Several months had passed. All the efforts of sending relocating people to the chosen locations had already started a few weeks ago. To the scientist's relieve, nobody minded having to move to other places.

Scientists had gone to the locations earlier to plant the crops according to the data they collected during the research period. All looked great until now, with everything in the mission going smoothly.

Conor and his team were still at the lab, doing some light work and research. Their goals were now primarily focused on sustaining.

Conor was sitting on his desk, indulged in a file containing data graphs and stuff. He heard a knock on the glass door and looked up, seeing Alyssa standing there.

'Can I come in?' Alyssa asked. Conor nodded as he put the file away and adjusted his posture on the chair.

'Any reports?' Conor asked.

'No, I just wanted to talk.' Alyssa replied. Conor nodded curtly and indicated at her to sit.

'So um, the heads approved the new reality operation. They chose you to go with um- with me.' Alyssa said. Conor was stunned.

'With you? Why you?' Conor asked.

'Don't ask me that, I don't know myself. They just told me like an hour ago about it.' Alyssa explained.

'Oh, well- so then when does the operation start?' Conor asked.

'By giving orders, the operation has already started actually.' Alyssa answered. Seeing the unamused expression on Conor's face, she continued, 'As soon as we are ready.' she said while rocking her leg.

'Tell them we will be ready in um never.' Conor replied. Alyssa was bewildered. 'Don't you get it? I don't want to go in there. It's' Conor continued.

'But these are orders, I can't help you with that.' Alyssa said. 'If you want to make changes, you better go speak with Atlas himself.' she continued.

'Atlas won't approve of anything; you know that pretty well.' Conor replied and let out a huge sigh. 'Well, I guess I'm stuck in this thing.' Conor continued.

'Don't stress please, I am sure everything will go fine. Do you want coffee? I can go make some for you and me.' Alyssa offered. As she saw Conor nodding, she left the room and walked towards the pantry.

Conor leaned on his chair and closed his eyes, trying to think of what he would need to prepare before the mission.
