The Surgery

"Can we meet, Miss Wang?" Luna spoke on the phone with Ana. Her suspicions about Ana being involved in the car accident led her to decide to investigate Ana on her own.

The girl agreed to meet her in the restaurant near the hospital in a pressured tone.

After hanging up the phone, Luna returned to her mother, who was still restless in the hospital's waiting room before the operation theatre. The doctors had been operating on Grandma Li for an hour.

Luna's mother gave her a suspicious look as she approached. "With whom did you make contact?" Luna couldn't hide her agitation in front of her mother. That woman tilted her head with squinted eyes, wary of what she was doing, secretly calling someone..

"That was Ana."

"Do you mean the girl who is coming to your party in the same gown as you?" Luna's nodding head confirmed her correct guess. "Why? Do you believe she is to blame for the car accident?" Her mother was looking into the case further. Luna realized why her mother was interested in the accident. It endangered not only Grandma Li, but also Luna. They were specifically targeting Luna. "Why don't you say something, Luna? Am I correct?"

"For the time being, Mom, I am unable to reach a conclusion. The police are conducting additional investigations."

"Alright. Let us await the outcome of the case investigation. However, you should exercise caution. Your life is now in jeopardy. Someone out there wants to kill you." Her mother sighed uneasily. Her sorrowful expression reflected this. She then motioned for Luna to take a seat. "If you believe that this wedding will not work out and will instead put you in jeopardy, you can simply cancel the arranged marriage. I believe that. Mrs. Li will understand."

"No, Mom...I can't just flee to save myself while humiliating Danish and his family in front of their relatives and relations."

Luna's mother didn't say anything else. For a while, their thoughts consumed them until the doctor called their names. Luna and her mother hurried up to the old man in the white cloak. He requested that they meet with him in his office.

In a matter of minutes, the white room had surrounded them all three. Before confessing the outcome of the surgery, the doctor inhaled strength and exhaled doubt.

"The operation was a success, but..." Hesitation cast a shadow over his eye, and his gaze darted from Luna to her mother, who was patiently listening to his explanation "Due to her critical condition, she required a second surgery. And her chances of survival were less than fifty percent."

Luna covered her mouth in disbelief. The doctor's words pricked her heart to the point where she couldn't breathe for a second.

"Doctor Hwang...do whatever it takes to save her." Luna's suffering was exacerbated by her mother's pleading words. She had simply drowned in silence.

"We'll give it our all."

"How about Danish?" Luna's unexpected question surprised both her mother and herself. She asked the question on the spur of the moment.

"Mr Danish Li had overcome his critical condition. He had a CT scan, and the results were positive. There's nothing to be concerned about. Because his condition is not fatal, he recovers faster." Luna and her mother exhaled a sigh of relief.

**"

Luna took a corner seat at the restaurant where she and Ana had scheduled a meeting. She chose the menu the waiter handed her and flipped through the pages to find what she wanted to order.

Her gaze was drawn to a photograph of dimsum, grandma Li's and Danish's favorite cuisine. Her reverie overtook her before the waiter's gentle reminder brought her back to reality.

"I'll order this," she said, pointing to the drink's picture, green tea.

"Your order will be completed in a matter of minutes."

Ana was ambling toward her with a hand bag swinging in her hand behind the waiter's back. Her eyes were framed by her dark glasses. She only removed it when she arrived at Luna's table.

"What is the urgency with which you have set your time to meet with me, Miss Yang?" She inquired cynically as soon as they were seated opposite each other.

This girl across from her appeared to be fine, as if nothing had happened. Her boyfriend was recently involved in an accident. And he was now in the hospital. How could this girl act as if the incident had had no effect on her? Did she genuinely adore Danish? Was grandma Li correct in her suspicion that this girl only cared about his money?

Luna swatted a negative thought from her mind.

"I just want to find out one thing." Luna snatched a photograph from her blazer pocket, a photograph of Ana tiptoeing among the cars in the parking lot. "Would you mind explaining?" Ana's expression had shifted. Her face was painted pale. She tried hard not to show her fear.

"What's the problem with that? My car was parked there! Do you think it's inappropriate for me to drive to my own car? That is my personal vehicle. Do you not see the plate? Oh, you forgot to photograph the license plate as well." Ana was able to overcome her fear by finding the right excuse. But Luna was not about to give up.

"I've got a witness. Danish's car was approved by you. It is the car I should take. But I am fortunate in that Danis exchanges the car before we left the hotel."

"So, are you accusing me of causing the car accident? Are you certain that witness witnessed me doing something with the car? You don't seem to have enough evidence to sue me." Her lips formed an insulting smirk. Luna clenched her hands into fists.

"Whoever did it must despise me so much because it was me who was targeted in the first place." Luna leapt to her feet. "Danish's surgery went well, by the way."

"Luna..." Aunt Jang Mi's tears streamed down her cheeks.

"What's going on?" Is Grandma Li all right? Her sobs grew louder as she shook her head. "Aunty....please tell me something,"Luna begged. Luna's mother rubbed her back to comfort her.

"She's in critical condition." Hers mouth trembled. "The doctor informed me that she needed a blood donor. Unfortunately, the hospital is out of O blood. What is your blood type?" Her eyes shone with optimism. The light in aunt Jang Mi's eyes dimmed when Luna moved her head, indicating that she had a different blood type than grandma Li. Her eyes lowered in sadness.

"I know who can help," Sandra Li, who had just arrived at the hospital, interjected.
