The System Won't Work Unless I Have Girlfriends

“Yeah, no one could convince me, even in a hundred years, that I would date someone, not even if she were Kar*******.” [To start the system, please find a suitable partner you like] This floating screen has been popping up for years now! “No, I refuse. Tell whoever sent you to fuck off. I don’t need any external help to be great.” [...Are you sure a bout that?] Eh? This is the first time the system has responded like this. It reminds me of how I’ve struggled without relying on this so-called system. Should I really try it now? --- patreon.com/Livice

Chapter 66

(Third pov)

Click, click, click, click, click, click, click!

The soft clicking of keys filled the room. Masamune had been working in his office since morning.

"Whoa…" Toyomi amazed.

Unlike when she was at home, Fujiwara Toyomi let her long hair flow freely. She was dressed in a tight black suit with a white shirt underneath, a skirt, black stockings, and heels. She exuded the appearance of a professional—elegant, sexy, and charming as an office worker.

She was now working for the president of the Makabe Investment Group—MIG. Toyomi had never expected her application to be accepted, especially since she had only set her sights on this company since the beginning.

Even more shocking was that the company's president was Masamune, her little sister's boyfriend—and, in some ways, hers too? The thought still bewildered her. A 16-year-old boy as the boss?! That possibility had never crossed her mind.

"Boss, how are you able to type that fast?"

Toyomi, who had taken over the secretary position that Yaeko left behind, was clueless about how he managed to type at such an incredible speed.

At first, it looked like he was typing randomly, but he wasn't—he was working with the precision and efficiency of a machine.

Masamune stopped and looked at her. "It's hard to explain, but I'm truly grateful to you, Fujiwara-san."

He was talking about the gacha skill he got from an anime character named Shiba Tatsuya. It turned out to be incredibly useful for work since he never missed a key, and his work efficiency increased significantly.

Toyomi tilted her head in confusion. "I don't understand why you're thanking me, boss. But I'm happy~ And please, call me by my name, boss. I'd be even happier if you dropped the formalities like usual."

"Okay, Toyomi-san."

Toyomi pouted. "Hm, mou~" She sighed, realizing he still maintained that professional demeanor.

"Shouldn't you have something to do?"

Toyomi's face lit up. "Well, I finished my work for today and tomorrow, boss. I'm a genius, right?~"

Masamune hummed in response. He knew Toyomi came from a well-educated family. She spoke five languages and excelled at her job. Despite still being in college, she was more than capable—exactly what he needed for the position.

"I see, then…" Masamune paused.

Toyomi flinched. Her body remembered all too well the times they had been together. She had initially thought of him as her cute little brother, teasing him occasionally.

But she had misunderstood.

The boy she once found adorable and talented in the kitchen had become someone who consumed her completely.

Toyomi no longer had any excuses. She was his woman now.

"Make me some coffee."

"Eh?"

"What? That's part of your job description, by the way, an iced coffee will be great."

'Hold on... shouldn't he say something like, 'Come and suck it?! Like before?' Toyomi thought, flustered.

Having worked as an intern, she was used to doing extra tasks in her boss's office. She assumed he would take this as another opportunity to make a move on her.

But no.

'No! It sounds like I'm a lewd woman!'

Yet, memories flooded her mind. She remembered how she had dressed provocatively and teased him after Chika brought him home that day.

Toyomi realized, maybe… that she actually was that kind of woman.

'But Masamune-kun is my only partner so far, so I'm not that kind of woman!' she reassured herself firmly.

With a glass of iced coffee she had just prepared, she approached his desk again.

There, she saw Masamune—a tall young man with sharp looks and a strong build. He was currently doing light exercises when she saw his desk slowly lift. He was probably going to work while standing.

'Hm... he's cute.' Toyomi couldn't help but admire how majestic he looked.

"Boss, here's your—KYAA!"

Toyomi twisted her ankle slightly in her left heel but, thankfully, didn't fall or hurt in the process.

However, there was a cost.

"A—a, I—I'm sorry, boss!"

She looked at Masamune's long black pants, now soaked with iced coffee.

"Um..... boss?"

Masamune's smile twitched as he struggled to keep his composure.

"You did that on purpose, didn't you?!"

Plap! Plap! Plap! Plap! Plap! Plap! Plap! Plap!

"AHN! AHHH! N-No! I swear!"

"Stop lying!"

From behind, he grabbed both her hands as she helplessly endured the relentless pounding!

'Wh-why this boy have so much energy?!'

Toyomi wondered. Hadn't he been working non-stop since morning without a single break? Then how—why?

'What is going on in there?'

A newly appointed CEO for one of the branch companies under Masamune's conglomerate, Nishimiya Yaeko, hid herself behind the large door leading to Masamune's private office.

Thankfully, this floor of the MIG headquarters was completely deserted, as it could only be accessed via a special elevator reserved for the company's most important personnel.

Yaeko, being the CEO of Hayase Group, had the clearance to use it. Initially, she had come to discuss a business matter with Masamune. However, as she arrived at the floor, she expected to see Secretary Fujiwara working diligently at her desk outside his office door.

But Fujiwara was nowhere to be found.

The door to Masamune's office was slightly ajar, and when Yaeko peered inside, she saw something she definitely shouldn't have.

In the Evening.

Yaeko found herself in an izakaya near the office. It was a scheduled drinking party after work to celebrate her promotion, and they had reserved the entire izakaya for the occasion.

Of course, she hadn't gone to his office.

"Alright, people, glad you're all here after a long day!"

Masamune stood and opened the party while the others sat and watched him speak a few words.

He continued, "Actually, I shouldn't even be here. This place is supposed to be for grown-ups, so it doesn't suit me at all. I mean, I can't even drink at my age. But, but!—I brought my mom here, and I'll cheers with you all using my cola!"

Everyone laughed as he added, "So, without further delay, let's have the new CEO say a few words before you all pass out!"

Yaeko smiled helplessly at her boss. She stood up and addressed her subordinates briefly. "…Please take care of me from now on. Thank you." She ended her speech, Masamune and the others clapped for her.

"Alright then!" Masamune raised his cola high and shouted, "Bottoms up, everyone!"

"YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

Yaeko was dumbfounded by Masamune's party energy. Moreover, he blended in with the adults and partied with them so naturally. Still, she never expected certain people to be here too.

"Hana, you must have corrupted Ma-kun into behaving like this, right?" said Makabe Kinue, Masamune's mother, with an angry expression.

"What's with that face, Kinue? Sure, I raised him and still support him now that he's on top of the world. But I never brought him to shady parties," Kirisaki Hana replied calmly. "In fact, I kept this boy out of sight so Diddy could never find him."

"Who is 'Diddy'? And why is he like this? I mean, he's only 16. It must be his father's influence again," Kinue said, looking worriedly at her son.

"Well, Masamune is a boy, after all. Boys like parties. He's been invited to plenty of them in the showbiz circle. Honestly, the invitations are endless—it's a lot for me to handle," said Saitou Miyako, his manager in the industry.

"Wait, I understand why Kinue is here, but why are you two here? This isn't a reunion party," Yaeko said with a slight frown at Hana, who giggled.

"Of course, we were all invited here, Yaeko! HAHAHA! But it's strange that this boy brought us together again, isn't it?" Hana said proudly.

"Tch! Whatever." Yaeko took a swig of her beer.

"That reminds me—you said there was something important you wanted to tell me, right, Kinue?" Miyako asked as Kinue nodded.

"That's right. Hana and I want to visit a resort in Hokkaido, so we'd like to invite both of you to come with us. What do you think?"

Miyako widened her eyes. "That sounds great to me." Lately, her shoulders had been stiff, and she'd been thinking about doing something to fix that.

"I'm busy," Yaeko said curtly.

"Do you think I'm not? Come on, Yaeko."

Yaeko hummed in response to Hana. How could she have free time when she was supposed to be busier than her? Again, she thought about how she didn't have time for something like that. But now, slightly drunk, her mind wandered to something she shouldn't have seen.

In fact, Yaeko refused to believe it. But as the alcohol took hold, she grew frustrated. Was she so unattractive that her boss, Masamune, never looked at her as a woman?

Sure, she believed Masamune wouldn't see her that way when her daughter was his close friend from grade school. But under the influence of beer, Yaeko felt a pang in her pride as a woman.

'Sigh.... He's brat, Yaeko. And....' she thought.

Now, she hated herself even more because Masamune would never like a woman with such a cynical tongue. Yaeko still remembered how poorly she'd treated Masamune back when he played with Shoko. In fact, her daughter still hadn't forgiven her for constantly antagonizing him as though he were a bad boy.

"You have my permission, Nishimiya-san, because I'm planning to inspect the resort too," Masamune said.

"Eh?" Yaeko was dumbfounded. "Ah… I mean, yes, sir. Hic!"

Going to a resort with the boss? Yaeko shook her head and decided this was purely work. Yes, it was a work trip with her boss.
