The Soul Slotter

Absolute power corrupts absolutely, at least that's how the saying goes. This world follows that saying as if it were a creed etched in stone by the lifeblood of the soul itself. The twelve Zodiacs, the leaders of the twelve remaining provinces of earth, each and every one of them corrupted to their cores. The earth has been in a constant struggle for power between these provinces for 500 or so years now. The citizens were starving, enslaved, dying, or working themselves to death just to survive. The nobles of course walked upon the backs of those beneath them Zodiac willing, for who looked to a diety above those perched at the top of the food chain. The dynamic needed to change, the Zodiacs need to be humbled, and those lurking in the shadows pulling strings for those in power need to be taken care of. Join Damien and his sister Tessa on an epic journey to disrupt the status quo, will they fall short or will they surpass the expectations of the people, themselves, and the readers.

Contingency Plan

"Bartender" Tepmin raised his hand trying to get ahold of the man on the other side of the bar serving drinks. After putting down Damien he put Jasmine in charge. He needed a minute of downtime after the last week. It took him a bit of time to set up getting that boy. The woman came to him about a month ago begging to have Tepmin adopt her child. She was desperate and in fear for it's safety after birth. It seems her fears were warranted as well. She died in the process of giving birth, and he knows it wasn't for health reasons. "Hey, Bartender!" He looked up a little irritated after not getting a drink after about a minute of processing the death surrounding Damien's birth.

Tepmin frequented this bar for two reasons. One this bar was a prime spot for the underground of the province. All sorts of juicy bits of information. Not to mention the black market deals here. The other reason was this bar was also frequented by some shady characters one of who sired Damien. He didn't do it to be a father either, he did it so he could have a child to experiment on. "Lucky boy" he thought to himself looking up as his drink finally slid down the bar to him, he caught it in hand and upturned it in his mouth in one swift motion. "Send me the whole bottle" he barked at the bartender. As he stood he left a purse full of coin on the bar. The bartend tossed the bottle to Tepmin, who caught it with ease. He walked to a corner booth and sat down to listen.

Time went quickly in the bar, thirty minutes had passed. The bottle in Tepmin's hand empty and hanging, his head slumped to the side, eyes closed. The bar was full with no decent place to sit for conversation. Two men walked up noticing the man at the current booth was hammered and asleep. "Ah, this'll have to do Jacky boy."

"Fuckin ass, I told you to quit using that name."

"Well I'm sure you'd rather be called by your less... Appealing name." The first man purred.

"It fits me better. But enough of this banter it's time to talk about what happened with the baby."

"Ah yes, unfortunately the nurse absorbed the soul before we had the chance to talk. I underestimated how excited she would be with a T2 soul."

"The cunt bit off more than she could chew then?"

"It was her first integration, suck a fucking waste " the man spit to the side.

"Waste of a T2 soul maybe, there's plenty more like her out there."

"Ever the sadist I see. Regardless, she wasn't able to tell me where the child was taken so we'll have to make use of the contingency plan."

"Fuck Quinn, you did it on purpose, you just want to test out how good that new soul is don't you? You do know that the hospitals have the best anti hack security."

"No, no I promise it wasn't on purpose" Quinn chuckled. "Also where do you think I acquired this new soul in the first place? It will be like I'm one of their own. Also all I need to do is take a simple birth record and release form."

"Uhn" the man they moved over on the booth stirred.

"It seems our time is about up." Jacky boy looked at the drunkard suspiciously.

"I'm not so sure" Quinn smiled devilishly as he spun the point of a knife on his thumb. Not even a drop of blood being drawn. "I'll see if he stirs." He leaned forward and took the big man's arm. Off the bench, he then plunged the knife into his hand pushing it all the way through from the back. Not a single sound was heard from the sleeping giant. "Looks like we're good for one drink."

"When do you plan on getting those records"

"It will have to wait for another week or two. I have some more pressing matters to attend. Some of the big wigs are on the move, and I'd like to secure our position."

"Well I'll wait on your move then. I know you keep saying this is a game of chess, but you know my patience is wearing thin. I've waited long enough to experiment on soul amplification and I needed a child for it. I would prefer not to use a random families, but I will if it comes down to it."

"You'd be wise to just wait on my finishing what I need to do, then the child will be in the palm of your hand."

"Uhhh, Bartend..." The drunk man moaned out.

"I believe it is time to take our leave." Quinn got up from his seat. "We'll be in touch" he said before walking to the door.

"Yes, yes we will" Jacky boy murmured before also taking his leave.
