"Devin, we need to discuss your—"
The moment Ivar opened the door, he saw that Angeal was on top of their master and realized that he found himself in an awkward situation.
Angeal's eyes were opened wide, and so's Devin's.
'My first kiss!'
The girl's soul felt like it wanted to leave her body due to the shock of their sudden incident. The girl lifted her head, ending their accidental kiss.
"Ahdsakafajdags!"
Ivar gasped as he put both of his hands on each side of his face, making him look like the guy in the painting "The Scream." He couldn't even speak coherently as he was seen dumbfounded by the scene in front of him.
'What the heavens am I seeing!? My innocent eyes!'
When Devin put his hand on Angeal's waist to support her, the girl felt ticklish. Instinctively and due to her sudden reflex of being overprotective, she suddenly slapped their master on the face.
'!!!'
"Ah!"
Ivar exclaimed as he stretched his cheeks with his hands, feeling more surprised than usual. He was also at the same time, scared for Angeal when she did the unexpected.
'She just slapped master!'
Angeal suddenly stood up, her face beet red. She then realized what she did wrong.
'I dared slap master, ah!'
Devin's eyes showed astonishment at the moment when her hand met his face. After a few seconds, the expression of his face turned scary as he sat up, then he gave her a death stare. His stare looked like a knife about to stab the human girl's heart!
"You dare slap your master?"
Angeal didn't know what to say. She shook her head violently, feeling embarrassed and guilty at the same time. She couldn't speak so she just bowed in front of him multiple times.
'Angeal, you stupid girl!'
Finding it difficult to contain her embarrassment, she quickly ran to get her books then her phone, gave their master one last bow, then ran away, leaving Devin and Ivar alone.
'This is the coffee table's fault!'
The moment Angeal left leaving the two behind, the two immortal men were silent for a few seconds. Realizing that the human girl didn't really apologize to her master, the Soul Eater looked at Ivar, slightly annoyed.
"She dared run away from me!"
Ivar looked at him, still in a daze, then spoke.
"That's your concern? You two kissed! Care to explain that to me!? She was on top!"
Deep down, Ivar's soul was dancing to have found the two of them in that situation. He didn't know why, but he never saw his best friend in such a situation. Ivar knew that this was an accident but somehow, he was happy that Devin got to experience such things after many years.
As his best friend, Ivar wished for Devin to enjoy his life even though he was banished from their realm.
'Maybe... he would find that joy in the human world, with the human girl Angeal!'
As Ivar looked surprised on the outside, his soul was doing its own victory dance, celebrating and feeling happy with what his "innocent" eyes saw.
Devin gave Ivar a death stare. Knowing him for many years, he knew that he was pretending to be serious.
"It was an accident. She stumbled," the Soul Eater told his personal servant then he stood up, wanting to confront the girl and ask for an apology. "Where is her room? I am going to give her a lecture on slapping her master."
"Woah!" Ivar quickly held his arm to stop him. "Give her some space!"
Devin scoffed. "You're telling your master to give her some space?"
Ivar rolled his eyes at him. "Duh! Look at how she reacted! She was surprised! It might've been her first kiss!"
Devin didn't care. First kiss or not, she did something that he didn't like and he wanted to demand an apology.
"She slapped me."
Ivar raised both of his hands, not finding his excuse to look for Angeal acceptable.
"Lucky her! I couldn't even hit you myself! I want to hit you so bad every time you act obnoxiously!"
When the Soul Eater heard this, Devin smacked the back of Ivar's head then his personal servant spoke again after wincing in pain as he held his head.
"Ow," he exclaimed as he massaged the back of his head. "I mean... what did you do to make her slap you," he asked and Devin answered anyway.
"I put my hand on her waist to support her so she won't fall."
Ivar grinned like a fool. He found the simple gesture polite for Devin to do despite his personality.
"Oh, you are so kind," Ivar commented playfully and Devin gave him a look of warning then he spoke again to distract him. "But you know how sheltered she is. She may not have interactions with other guys other than the people here," he added and Devin raised a brow at him.
"Hadn't she been going to school for 20 years outside this mansion?"
Ivar sighed then looked at his master seriously. He realized that Devin didn't get this at all. He couldn't put himself in the shoes of other people.
"Look at Angeal, Devin... and try to understand. She couldn't speak for how long... since she was born, right? Imagine how her life would've been during those years until now."
When he said this, Devin went quiet. Ivar just looked at him, waiting for his feedback.
Devin tried his best to think about Angeal's circumstance. She had been mute since the day she was born. How could she have dealt with the people treating her differently, knowing that she couldn't speak?
In the human world, it is unavoidable for some people to bully those who they find weak and powerless. Knowing that Angeal didn't have the ability to speak, who knows how she handled those times when she was treated badly.
When Devin realized this, he looked at Ivar again without saying a word.
"What do you want to talk about," the Soul Eater asked, changing the subject and Ivar just let it slide.
He knew Devin well. Once he realized some things, he didn't need to be overly expressive or to say some comments about it.
"It's about your meals," he said then the both of them suddenly turned serious when Gladios arrived for their talk.
***
The moment Angeal reached her room, she put the books down on the table, got her phone, then she flopped on her bed, hiding her face under the pillows.
'Ah! If only I could scream, I would do so!'
Getting her phone, Angeal just typed a series of letter As and an H at the end and when she clicked read, the voice only read an expressionless "Aaaaaaaaah."
At this point, the girl really wished for her to have a voice even just for a few seconds just for her to voice out her frustrations.
But alas, it was impossible. She just tossed and turned on her bed, throwing a few of her pillows on the floor.
'Why am I so clumsy!?'
After calming herself down as she stared at the ceiling, she sighed, then she looked at the time. It was already 11 in the evening and obviously, she couldn't sleep. Knowing this, what she did was look at her contacts then saw Gwen's name.
Angeal's fingers were shaking as she sent her a text which said: "Devin and I kissed." and the moment she clicked send, Gwen magically appeared in her room in a second.
The human girl looked up when she felt a familiar aura in her presence. Her eyes met Gwen's beautifully surprised black eyes, then the girl crossed her arms in front of her chest.
"You better explain what your text is all about," Gwen ordered the human girl as she quickly walked to sit beside her on the bed.
Rolling her eyes at Gwen, Angeal quickly typed on her app then clicked read.
"Devin asked me about my schedule. When I walked over to him, I stumbled because of the coffee table and we accidentally kissed!"
Gwen's eyes doubled in size once more, making it seem like her eyeballs were about to come out.
"How did that even happen!? I mean... you two were meeting with each other already?! And you two kissed, really?"
Angeal exhaled, feeling rather frustrated, then typed on her phone all the details of what had happened when suddenly, Arvid came in magically as well.
"What kiss? What kiss!?"
The two girls looked at him, surprised. How could he hear both of them talking? Does being an immortal grant him to hear beyond walls? Heck... Gwen could even sleep peacefully before when she slept beside her snoring mother!
How could this Arvid know?
"How did you know," Gwen asked as she squinted her eyes at him and Arvid scoffed.
"Don't underestimate my ears! My room's just beside hers," he said as he pointed at Angeal who also looked at him suspiciously.
Gwen shook her head in disappointment then spoke. "Your ears are so sensitive. I should be careful around you," she commented but Arvid ignored her.
Edwin was right when he said that Arvid had the potential to become a great fighter because of his enhanced hearing ability. Gwen thought he was joking, making it sound like Arvid is an alien but with his sudden appearance here in Angeal's room when he wasn't even called, what Edwin said was right.
'He could be a great gossiper... a great eavesdropper...'
The both of them kept silent as they were waiting for Angeal to tell them what actually happened tonight.
