Hell Broke loose

Charles closed the door to keep the boys from witnessing the horror. There lay his wife, Marie-Gold, covered in blood, staring at the door of death, holding a baby girl with ginger hair, her eyes still closed so it was impossible to tell which clan she belonged to.

Charles opened his eyes wide and exclaimed, "Whose child is it? How could you... How could you... I thought we were happy. I did everything I could to make you happy.".Falling to his knees, his eyes drenched with tears, he said weakly again: "How could you?

She replied with all the strength she could muster and said: "My love... I have never betrayed you. This child is ours". Charles, still on his knees, looked at her and said: "Then how do you explain this....this abomination?" She then replied: "There is one thing about my family, a secret that has been passed down but kept for centuries. Looking lovingly at the baby, she said, "This innocent creature is proof that no secret can remain secret forever. Long ago, one of my ancestors had an illegitimate child with a death mage. Fortunately, the child was born a life mage. In time, we stopped believing in it, as no death mage was born to any member of my family. The secret remained in our family and has never been spoken of to this day. The gods are cruel indeed.

As life left her body, she called him to her side and when he sat down beside her, she gave him the child and said, "This child is innocent. Both of us know that it takes more than one death mage to make a death mage". As she said these words, she died.
