Chapter Four: The Sickness

Kara awakens to the sound of the front door closing, which prompts her to sit up and crawl over to the window to see what is going on. At this point, it could have been danger or it could have been Gabriel and Kara would have been just as tense regardless.

She sees Gabriel walking through the snow, thankfully the blizzard has calmed down enough to where she can see most of his Body as well as some of the other shacks surrounding the house she is in. She had not noticed them before but that also could have been because she just wanted to get into warmth as quickly as possible.

Gabriel falls to his knees in the snow, and sits there for what feels like several minutes to Kara. He doesn't seem to move much other than that and does seem to be doing much of anything for that matter.

" What the hell is he doing " she asks herself. Debating wether to approach him or not. She knows he probably wouldn't want her help but at the time, if he is in trouble then she needs to at least offer it. It is cold outside and she wasn't exactly sure how he was being able to stand it.

Kara, tightens her coat around her and opens the front door and eases up behind Gabriel almost hoping he would notice her and yet at the same time, truly hoping be would ignore her completely. She wasn't sure what she was going to say but she took the chance to head outside so now she definitely had to say something. Her freezing body would never forgive her otherwise.

" What are you doing out here, Kara ? " he asks, which stops her dead in her tracks. She had to think for a moment on the proper way to answer this question considering that she had not entirely thought out what she was doing. She also wasn't exactly sure how he was able to know she was there. Perhaps it was the sound of her feet crunching through through the powdered snow.

" I am checking on you. I wanted to make sure you were okay..." She answered, crossing her arms and not moving another inch closer to him. Concerned of course, but still cautious.

Gabriel lowered his head and began shaking it from side to side. " You don't care if I'm doing okay or I'm not. You just don't want to die here. Don't worry Princess, I'm not gonna let you die here. Go back inside " he calls back to her but Kara is standing her ground this time. She is not going to let him get the best of her.

" I'm not a princess. And yes, I did come out here to check on you, you freaking idiot. It's freezing out here and even for a mutt like you..you have to be cold" She continues looking on at his back and his hair that falls down to the snow.

" Go inside Princess " He respondes, completely ignoring everything she just said but Kara continues to persist despite his commands.

" Listen, you are right. We don't have to like one another but why would it be so fucking bad if we did at least make an effort to. I mean, we have a long trip. You've watched me my whole life and I don't know much about you at all. Isn't it only fair that I learn about you too.."

Kara, at this point, is not entirely sure as to what she was doing. She wasn't even entirely sure if she wanted to know more about him or not. But she also on some level felt like the way things were, was going was going to make the trip unbearable. There was not even a guess in her mind as to how long this trip would be and she didn't want to be fighting consistently all the way through. Again, her mother trusted him. even though you wasn't entirely sure as to why that would be.

" I owe you my life. Probably more times over than I can possibly count. But I would like to make that up to you somehow. I don't know how but I'll find a way" Kara continues to plead with him. She knew the task he had been given was probably alot to deal with and that he had some sort of resentment to her.

Gabriel laughs and clutches his head as though he found the thought of her concern as some kind of joke." If you want to repay me" he slowly turns his head around to reveal his eyes are golden yet again, just like in wolf form and yet he still looks human " GO THE FUCK INSIDE" he screams and Kara turns around and heads back inside, closing the door behind her. She wasn't scared..she just didn't want to be yelled at anymore. She was tired and wanted more sleep and had given up on any single shred of hope that she could communicate with him properly.

" For fucks sake. This is why being antisocial works so well for me. Not having to talk to people so that I don't end up fucking things up. I always fuck things up " Kara slumps down against the door and sits down, and begins crying. " Why is it that everytime..every single time I fuck things up. He is only an asshole because he gave up everything to help me. And then I expect him to...wanna talk to me at all.." Kara continues crying. " And now he stuck taking me to God knows where through a damn Blizzard" Kara felt horrible. The lowest she has felt in months.

Meanwhile, outside, Gabriel is hunched over the snow, trying his best to control an intense burning sensation inside of him. He knows he has been suppressing this for far too long but there was no way he could release it on earth. It would have just caused him more problems and compromised the mission.

This is going to be a problem and if he doesn't find a way to solve it soon and this is also going to make getting Kara to the castle on time an absolute pain for him. He knew this but resisted it anyway.

" I have to fight it. Just a bit more longer and then I'll be fine..I'll be fine...I'll be.." Gabriel collapses In the snow from exhaustion and begins sinking into the thick blanket of white.

Kara stands back up, wiping the tears from her cheeks and turns to the table with food. She knows she has to eat something. It will help her calm down. It has always helped her calm down. Usually she found a remedy with Ice-cream but given the situation, and lack thereof, Ice-cream would not be anywhere in her future for the foreseeable future.

And then, out of the corner of her eye, she catches Gabriel collapse in the snow and without thinking, rushes out into the snow to check on him. She completely ignored his warnings. His life was possibly on the line now and no matter how stubborn or made he is, she was going to help!

" Gabriel? GABRIEL? " She calls to him but gets no reply. She kneels down beside his body and shakes him but he still doesn't respond. Kara realizes she has no other choice but to bring him inside and so she puts his arm around her neck and she does her best to lift him. And whilst it is no easy task, she does manage to get him to his feet but only barely.

" I thought you said you were fine " She grumbled as she strained herself to carry him inside and helphim to a chair, much to his disapproval.

" Now tell me, what the hell is going on dammit? I'm going to try and help you. And don't give me the fucking attitude and stop trying to play tough. " Kara is ready to do what she has to. She has to make things up to him somehow and she isn't quite sure what she would be able to do but she will try her best to help.

" I'm sick...and there isn't much that can be done about it. Just leave me alone. Go to sleep and I'll be fine " Gabriel tries to push Kara away but she slaps his hand away. " No you son of a bitch, you are going to let me help you. Now what can I do? " She looks him with the most serious expression she can muster in hopes that he for once will actually cooperate with her.

" There should be some medicine in the backpack. But you can't be here when I take it. It has some adverse effects...and...its..just bad " he coughs as Kara already begins searching through the bag until she finds a tiny vile with some type of green liquid inside of it. Something she has never quite seen before but then again, half of the things she has seen today have been new experiences for her. Nothing else in the bag even looked close to medicine so this had to be it.

" Okay I've got it. Here is your medicine. I'll leave the room and let you have your space * Kara hands him the medicine and without another word, leaves the room, heading into a bedroom and closing the door behind her. She hoped he had the strength to even take the medicine but she wasn't going to tolerate his attitude either. If it comes down to it, she will administer the medication herself.

After a few moments, she hears nothing but Dead silence coming from behind the door. She grows concerned but also decides its better to give him space. At the most, she will peak her head outside to check on him but thats it.

" For fucks sake why am I so worried about him. I know he has helped me and saved my life and stuff..but I also..I don't know. I feel bad for him. Alot. And not just because of what he gave up but because he seems kind of..I don't know..just..sad. I don't even know if he is sad, I guess I'm making assumptions about him? But he comes off kind of sad to me and just...I just need to shut up" Kara closes her mouth and tries her best to silence her mind. She sits there for hours upon hours until she eventually falls asleep.

When she awakens, she still hears nothing coming from the other side of the door. This is slightly concerning considering she wasn't sure he took the medicine or not. He looked to be in alot of pain the last time she saw him so if he didn't take it, it probably wasn't by his own choice.

She stands up and slowly cracks open the door but doesn't see Gabriel sitting in the chair and so she makes her way out of the room as quietly as she can and that is when she notices him, in wolf form, laying in front of the fire, asleep. Kara laughs a little at the sight of him. He really is kind of like a big old dog that just is super grumpy...even though he is the same age as her and seems to have his reasons for being angry all the time. She assumes the medicine made him tired and need to sleep which is for the best. Sleep always made her feel better when she was sick.

Kara walks up slowly to him, dragging her finger tips along his fur as she trails them up to the back of his neck. " I wonder..." She gathers an evil grin on her face as she reaches up behind is ears and proceeds to begin scratching which results in Gabriel kicking his paws in approval.

" Oh my god..he totally is a dog" she giggles at the sight of him..that is until his eyes open and jet back an intense glare at her. She had almost half expected this to happen but she felt that it was well worth the risk of the attempt.

" What do you think you are doing? " he growls at her as he makes his way back his feet, staring her down. " I was..petting the nice doggy? " Kara chuckles as she backs away slowly, nervous.

" Excuse me..." His growl intensifies. " Whose a good boy..whose a good boy? " Kara mocks him as she prepares herself to run in case he lunges at her. " If I ever..and I mean ever..catch you..doing what you just did to me...ever..again...I'm going to make you regret it. Do you understand me? " His snout is practically in Kara's face and she cracks a nervous smile as she raises up her finger and touches the tip of his nose. " Boop the snoot"

She laughs which infuriates Gabriel so much that lunges at full force at Kara who manages to dodge it just in time by rolling out of of way, which in turn, makes Gabriel fall through one of the walls behind her. Old wood and bricks fall down onto him as a thick dust cloud forms.

" Oh come on, you need to lighten up a little" Kara laughs as she backs away from the giant hole he just made. After a fee seconds, Gabriel makes it back to his feet and shakes off the dust and drywall, let's out a loud roar which echos through the small abode, and lunges at her yet again and this time manages to pin her down.

" Like I said..if you ever do that again..you are going to regret it " He growls, Staring deep into her eyes to command a sense of dominance and then, moves off of her and walks to his room and pushes the door closed with his tail.

Kara Sighs and stays down and stares up at the ceiling " Well..this isn't going well. I guess booping the snoot is not something that wolves enjoy as much as dogs. Hm. " Kara stands back up and heads over and knocks on his door " You do realize we need to get moving right? We have a Queen to get too" Kara hopes that maybe by getting away from this place, the tension will be cut a little. Whilst it is warm here, she knows that the answers she truly seek will never be answered here.

Kara Waits for an hour or so before Gabriel finally opens the door. He has changed back into human form although now he looks in alot better condition than he had before. An angry expression is still stained across his face from earlier but his tone is slightly less firm now " Let's go"
