“You will be, once you take your pain pill and get some sleep.” The doctor at the hospital had given them a supply of pain meds for two days, with a prescription to be filled at a pharmacy for more.
Luka grimaced more as he painstakingly made his way up the two flights of stairs to Jacob’s room. Jacob knew he was trying to be brave, but dammit, getting hit by a bullet was painful, and Luka needed to quit being so macho and lean on him more.
When Jacob had realized Luka had been hit, his world had tipped. He’d heard that when someone’s close to dying, their life can flash before them. While it had been Luka who’d cheated death, Jacob had seen his own life flash in front of his eyes. But it wasn’t his past life, it was his future. A future without Luka. Alone. Without love.
It had scared the hell out of him, and all he wanted to do now was get Luka into bed and take care of him. Even if the guy was being a total grump.
