The Sudden Attack

Even though they were no longer 'needed' in Delmar village, the soldiers kept vigil tonight on their last night. Their hatred for humans is increasing because they think humans cannot cooperate with them. However, the soldiers did not have the authority to change the village head's decision.

What's more, Volker did not refuse. Even when asked, Volker didn't give any explanation. And this situation made the atmosphere uncomfortable. The soldiers hoped that the humans could improve their attitude to avoid being confused.

In the end, the time to be in Delmis ended. Volker and the soldiers again gathered in the square to say goodbye.

"We will return today. Village Head, thank you for helping us while we are here. I hope your village stays safe." So said Volker.

"Lord Volker, how are you really going to leave without waiting for the culprit to be found?" asked one of the people.

"That's right, you said that you would stay here until we were completely safe," continued another.

"Village Head, we can't handle all of this on our own without their help."

"That's right Village Chief, we do have Village Guards, but of course not as skilled as Rodenis in battle."

The villagers seem terrified of being abandoned by Volker and his troops. But the Village Chief seemed unfazed.

"No need to worry. We'll be safe." Answer the head of the village. The villagers hoped the village head would reverse a decision that made no sense to them. But that hope is just a waste.

Volker nodded. "Okay, Chief, we'll be going now," said Volker.

"All right, Lord Volker. Thank you for helping us."

Volker nodded before turning to leave, followed by the soldiers behind him. They came out of the village gate, followed by sad looks from Delmar residents. Volker, without even looking back, immediately galloped his horse away from Delmar Village. The horse is speedy. Of course, it will be different from the horses of the soldiers.

Their journey from Delmar to Remilis was not too long, but not short either. All the way surrounded by forest made silence follow them. Volker and warriors are undoubtedly used to it. The sound of birds chirping and forest insects could be heard, adding to the eerie atmosphere. The sound of running horses' hooves also adds rhythm to the silence.

There was a crossroad at the end of the road, and they turned left. But as if something was bothering Volker's horse, its forelegs slightly lifted, and its shrill giggles sounded. The horse also seemed to move as if it was reluctant to walk.

"Gallops, what's wrong?" Volker asked the horse as he reined in the reins so he wouldn't fall. Not usually Gallop like this. Volker believes something is wrong with Gallop. Gallop has a strong intuition.

"Lord Volker, what's wrong?" asked Waller as he got behind Volker.

"I'm not sure, but Gallop seems to have seen something."

Volker and his entourage finally had to stop their journey until Gallop calmed down. But unfortunately, Gallop just kept lifting his forelegs with a non-stop giggling sound.

"Lord Volker, it seems that something is indeed wrong." Waller, who was beside Volker, whispered.

"You're right," Volker replied. Volker had rarely traveled that road before. But because the road was closed, he passed it today. Didn't think that he would get in the way. A voice in the bushes was heard. Volker strained his ears, waiting for something to happen.

And when he felt fast movement from his left, Volker jumped to the right while pushing Waller. An arrow stuck in a tree trunk on the right side of the road. Suddenly, all the soldiers dismounted to help Volker and Waller.

"Attack." Volker muttered under his breath.

Just when the man closed his lips, a mob of four appeared. They all carry different weapons.

"It turns out that we actually met Rodenis here. You're right Derg, they're fast and agile." The tall one with a bow on his back made a sound.

"Since when have I ever lied to you?" A tall man with a muscular body answered. That must be Derg.

"What do you want?" One of the soldiers asked the thugs.

Waller and Volker had risen and were looking at the crowd quietly. Volker walked closer silently, but his jaw clenched tightly. How dare they confront him.

"Not many. We just want to prove your worth." The man with the long braided hair answered. The man was tall and had brown skin.

"We came from far away and heard that Rodenis is the most powerful being." Now, a slightly short man answered, more straightforward than his three friends.

"Where are you guys from?" Volker finally spoke. "We don't have much time to wait for you to play. So get lost!" Volker looked irritated. Serving those kids would be a waste of time.

Instead of following Volker's words, they laughed at him. As if they heard the funniest humor. The silence of the woods made their laughter roar like wolves in the night.

"Of course, I'll introduce ourselves. We are from Rocio City. A city located at the southeastern tip of the Enter Continent. We are from the Uxia Clan." Volker had obviously heard of Rocio City. But he had never been to the city before.

"So when are we going to start? Don't talk too much, Beg." The man with the braided hair interrupted the short man. "We still need to travel," he continued.

Volker doesn't know what the gang's goal is to challenge him to prove the ability of the Rodenists. Volker always remembers a message. Pay attention to the look of your enemy. Even though they look effortless, who knows, their knowledge is higher.

"Lord Volker, you don't need to serve them. Just leave us alone." One of the soldiers volunteered.

"Not!" Reject Derg. "Four against two," he said. His finger pointed at Volker and Waller. "He and him."

"How dare you be impolite!"

One of the warriors jumped to attack Derg. The soldier kicked Derg in the stomach with his right foot. The unprepared Derg was blown back, but the soldier didn't let Derg take the time to reply. The soldier attacked again with a punch to Derg's face, but Derg could dodge it.

That, of course, made the other soldiers join in the fight. Volker faced Beg, while Waller faced the tall one.

The short man seemed content to be face-to-face with Volker. He certainly understood that Volker was the leader of the soldiers from the look on his face. Moreover, the badge hanging on Remilis' uniform, which was worn with Armor shining more than anything else, was a sign that Volker held an important position.

"Let's get started!"
