Call of the Reaper

“So, I wonder what brings you over to my humble abode Kwadjo?” Hank pulls out the bullet casing he retrieved earlier that day “I need to find out who this belongs to.”

Adjetey reached out to take a closer look at the casing, after a minute he let out a whistle before motioning for Hank to follow him as he headed into the building. Hank followed after him with the men still keeping their eyes in him as he entered.

“Don’t worry about them you know this life is… they have to be vigilant and suspicious of everyone.” Adjetey spoke up without looking back at Hank who had just walked in as he had begun to analyze the bullet casing. “yeah, I remember”, Hank spoke up with a slightly nostalgic tone “I envy you man. Just getting up and leaving this life behind, living the good life… not many get to live like that in this city”.

“your one to talk” Hank began to laugh, “with all the money you have made over the years you can move to anywhere in the country maybe East Legon or maybe Trassaco even if that’s not enough there are so many countries both in and out of Africa.” Adjetey broke out into laughter after hearing Hanks words “you’ve always been a joker but I think I’ll rather stay; this is my home after all I was born and raised here and I still got a family” Finally he was done with his analysis.

“damn boy, how did you get your hand on this?” Hank was confused by Adjetey’s words “why, what is it?” “It’s a normal bullet casing in terms of material and structure only thing special is what engraved unto it” Hank rose a brow at those words, symbolling for Adjetey to continue “he calls himself Reaper, he is a contract killer who has been active all-around West Africa and is one of the very best, no one knows how he looks like. The only way t o tell he was at a scene is that what ever he uses for the kill is left at the scene with his symbol etched unto it” Hank began to frown after hearing those words he thought he was going after the average contract killer but now, he just discovered he had severely underestimated the difficulty.

“Thanks, Adjetey I owe you one.” Hank retrieved the casing before heading out “Kwadjo!” Adjetey called out causing Hank who had just reached the door and was about to leave to come to a halt, “I don’t know what you’ve gotten yourself into man with talks of a mad man going after people with knives and shoot outs at the galas, these streets aren’t safe. I just want you to know if you ever need my help you know where to find me Hank nodded his head with a smile on his face before finally leaving.

……

“thank you.” A man gave a word of thanks to his server as he was handed his cup of coffee of which he took a sip before receiving a call, “hello…” “I heard, although apparently she is at the hospital as of now and Ernest is also going mad searching for the shooter but not to worry no matter what happens…”

“it won’t affect us in the least bit if anything we’ll be benefiting.” He begins to laugh when it turns to a cough, when he looks down at what he coughed out he is shocked at what he sees with his eyes showing confusing before gradually fear he tries to call out for help but he keeps coughing out blood uncontrollably and soon falls to his knees with people around him rushing towards him, asking him if he is okay but no matter how hard he tries to speak he just keeps coughing.

Eventually he realizes there is no way out and as this cruel realization sets in his eyes begin to show his strong despair and unwillingness as he falls into a pool of his own blood dead.

“what do we have?” Naa had left Michelle, and was now at the scene of the crime, “Elvis Tamakloe, 37, married, father of three, witness claimed he was on the phone he was laughing then started coughing fell never got up.” Jarred introduced the victim to Naa who went for a closer look at the blood which she realized was black, “oi! Jarred have you seen this “Naa called for her partner who came closer, “yeah, we are yet to do the autopsy but from what we can see… I’m leaning for poison”

As Jarred continued speaking she took notice which was a bit of distance away from the victim, nearly unnoticeable with the many other cups which the spectators should have dropped when they witnessed the death, taking gloves from one of the guys by her she bent down to pick up the cup having a closer look. She soon noticed that the victims name was written on the cup, “Jarred come look at this” she called for her partner as she kept rotating the cup having a better look and soon, she saw a symbol on the cup, a skull with a scythe underneath.

Jarred arrived behind her taking a look at the cup, Naa handed the cup over to her partner and began walking over to one of the employees who was held back for questioning. Jarred seeing this handed the cup over to another officer, “bag this, there is still some coffee in this and it might be evidence” the officer nodded in response as Jarred headed over to Naa.

Naa had arrived before the employee, “hey you, you work here right?” she questioned the guy whose eyes landed on her badge before he spoke, “I’m the manager ma’am”. “I need to have a look at your security cameras especially the exact moment when he got her coffee” “sure, right this way.” Jarred arrived at that moment following behind them both.

They soon arrived at the security room and began reviewing the tapes, “wait!” Naa called out causing the manager to pause the video, “what?” Jarred asked confused as to why she requested the video to be paused and she responded by pointing at the screen in the video was the man who handed the coffee he had a cap pulled down hiding his face with gloves over his hands.

Naa turned to the manager, “who is that?” the manager was silent for a moment before he spoke up “I have no idea”.
