She always looked away

"Don't you think Major Ji's behaviour is odd today?" Lin shiyu asked as song lin came out of the shower. Her cheeks are still flushed from the water and her hair still damp. She looked beautiful like a queen in all her elegance. she just nodded and sat on her bed trying to dry her hair.

"Even though it's quite odd that he became a major in half a month but he does seem like he has talent" Lin shiyu pondered. Song lin fell in thought remembering that painful look on his face when his father's name is mentioned.

"What are you thinking about? " shiyu asked her again as she sat up in her bed. she tied her hair in to a bun which made her look like a little girl. Song lin shook her head pushing the thoughts away.

"I'm going to the office to bring some things. Wanna come?" she asked as she made her way to the door. shiyu got up almost immediately. They went in silence. After Song lin picked up the files she needed and was about to head back they heard voices coming from outside. They both stopped and looked at each other.

"Are you crazy? why the hell did you beat him?"

Song lin looked at shiyu as they both realized whose voice is that.

Ji zue

"He said I wasn't looking good so I beat him up" Shiyu almost laughed at the lazy voice. Song lin glared at her telling her to be silent.

"You hit him infront a gods damned major...Lu chen and you think its funny???" Ji zue sounded angry.

"Says the one who put a knife at his throat" Lu chen said again in the same lazy voice. shiyu laughed out this time. Song lin stumped on her foot. There's no sound for a heartbeat then they heard the sound of approaching footsteps. they both tensed up.

"Ji zue" Lu chen called out at the same moment and then another sound of approaching footsteps. Shiyu could make out their foot from under the door. They stood just outside Song lin's office.

'looks like they are heading back to their room' shiyu mouthed silently to song lin. Song lin nodded.

"I don't understand why you keep silent when none of this is your fault...its not like you wanted all this to happen." Lu chen sounded furious and tired like he had this discussion a thousand time but to no avail.

"Look I don't want to talk about this" Ji zue said losing patience. Song lin looked at shiyu, her intention clear.

I'm not gonna listen to their personal shit! shiyu looked panicked. "They'll think we're eavesdropping if we go out now" shiyu whispered. "I don't care" song lin said and opened the door just as Lu chen was about to talk something.

Both men turned to look at them in surprise.

"What are you doing here?" Ji zue asked coldly. Song lin crossed her arms and said with a stone face "I'm coming out of my office. What do you mean by your question major Ji?" Lu chen and shiyu felt a headache coming on.

"You never cease to piss me off with your words do you?" he asked irritated by her question.

"well, it's an honor that I'm able to piss you off major Ji" Song lin said again with a poker face. Just as Ji zue was about to speak Lu chen interrupted him.

"Ah..miss lin I was hoping to talk to you. Can I have a moment please? " he asked, his eyes practically begging her to get him out this stupid mess. She nodded and soon Ji zue was left alone with Song lin. He stared at her crossing his hands over his chest same like her. She held his stare. Neither of the them had any intention to speak.

But Song lin felt her hands become sweaty and she felt pinned under his gaze always. like there's no where to run and even though she was dressed from head to toe she felt uncomfortably naked under his gaze. His throat bobbed. He noticed that her hair is damp and that she's not wearing her military shirt but a loose black tshirt. Somehow he felt hard to look away from her, from that jade like skin and her cherry lips and her exquisite collarbones. No matter what clothes she wear she has an air of confidence around her. Just when he thought he was unable to resist the temptation to touch her she looked away. She always did he realized. she would always be the first one to look away.

"I looked for you this afternoon but you weren't in your office. You said there's something you wanted to discuss with me." she said still looking at her feet as if they are the most interesting things in the universe. He smiled without quite knowing why. Not a devilish smile but an amused one.

"We will talk while we walk back" he said and started walking. She followed him quietly.

"so what is it that you wanted to talk to me about?" she asked again. He looked at her and found that she was still not looking at him. He had the urge to catch her chin and lift it up towards his face. He clasped his hands firmly behind him.

"Did colonel Zhou or any of the higher officials tell you anything about our visit except for the inspection part?" he asked looking anywhere but her face.

"No they didn't." she paused "why?" she asked again.

"Don't you find it odd that a major is asked to do inspection"he asked her back instead of answering.

"Ofcourse I find it odd but its not like I can do anything about it" she said. He stayed silent. Then she said again "Maybe they think highly of my troop so they sent a higher ranking officer" looking pleased. He smiled and thought 'what a narcissist'. she looked at him and found him smiling silently.

It's good she thought. To see him smile normally rather than that devilish smile.

"Maybe low rank officers aren't able to cope up with your attitude that's why they sent me" Ji zue said. Song lin glared at him.

"Do you think there's some other reason? some mission?" she asked after sometime. He nodded acknowledging her statement that she was correct. They reached the 1st floor and Song lin has to go up.

"How troublesome to go for a mission along with you.." she said and ran upstairs before he could say anything. He glared daggers in the direction she went.
