Mom..

In the cafeteria

As they all sat down and picked their chopsticks just then song lin's phone rang. It's an unknown number.

"Yeah..who's this?"she said as she started eating when she heard the other person's voice her hand stopped halfway to her mouth. her body stiffened immediately. her face is expressionless yet her hands tightened on the chopsticks. lu chen, Ji zue, lin shiyu also observed the change in her.

"yes"

"okay"

"bye"

Then she hung up the phone and put her chopsticks down on the table. With just a glance Lin shiyu understood who the caller is. Song lin leaned back in her seat and went silent for a moment and said quietly "Major Ji..I will be waiting outside the cafeteria I will take you to your office after you finish eating." then without waiting for him to say anything she got up and went away. Lin shiyu tried calling after her but she didn't turn back. shiyu sighed and turned towards her plate.

"what's wrong? " Ji zue asked her. But shiyu didn't answer him as she was deep in thought. Lu chen waved his hands infront of her. then she came back from her thoughts. she looked up at their confused faces."Nothing..she's just upset over something" she said quietly then she looked at her plate and mumbled "she didn't even have breakfast in the morning...". Hearing that Ji zue and Lu chen looked at each other they didn't understand what to say so they ate in silence.

Song lin sat on a bench outside the cafeteria. then she heard someone talking on the phone

"yes mom..I'm eating daily..."

"No..you don't need to worry so much there aren't any mosquitoes here.."

"I miss you too mom...I will visit you next week...bye mom love you.."the girl then went off. But song lin kept replaying the conversation of the girl.

Memories came flooding back to her. A women's voice kept playing in her head. she heard that women sobbing uncontrollably and shouting at someone. Song lin's breath quickened...her eyes stung with hot tears. No matter how much she tried she couldn't get that memories out of her head. She closed her eyes and clenched her fists tightly willing her heart to calm down. after some time she slowly opened her eyes and they returned to their usual calm.

"Captain song?" Ji zue called out to her. the three of them saw how she was a moment ago. But only Lin shiyu understood how song lin felt at that moment. She never saw song lin crying except for that one time...the day they met..

"I'll take you to your office now" she said her face expression less but to Ji zue it somehow felt lifeless. He didn't it give it much thought..he is not the type to put his nose in to someone else's business anyway. she took them to the 2nd floor which consists of 2 spare rooms and also song lin's office. she took him to the room that's next to her office. Ji zue went and sat in his chair. she placed a pair of car keys on his table "colonel Zhou asked me to arrange this car for you " she said quietly. He took the keys and nodded slightly as she was about to go he said "Get me the list of your troop and the attendance lists of them for every activity they are involved in. Make it fast I don't like it when someone keeps me waiting" she raised her brows and nodded slightly. she then turned to shiyu and said

"Take captain Lu to his office and come to me. I have something to discuss with you"

"song li..captain song?" shiyu called out as song lin went to the door. she just paused but didn't turn back. "I sent your lunch to the office ..its on your table. Have it when you go" she said quietly. song lin looked back as if to say something but then she saw shiyu's pleading eyes she just sighed and went off.
