(Where am I? Why does my entire body hurt? What the hell happened?)
As I slowly open my eyes, the first person I saw was Augustine. I looked at my surroundings, but it seems to me that I was only dreaming that a group of men ganged up on me.
However, when I completely opened my eyes, Augustine looked so worried that I thought someone got into an accident or something. Because he was slowly tearing up. And honestly, I don't know what to feel.
He looks like a dog trying to get attention from his owner, and at the same time, his eyes look pitiful that you want to ask him what happened.
"Hey, what the hell happened to you?" Augustine chipped in while looking at me with teary eyes.
"What do you mean?" I responded cluelessly.
"Bro, I saw you lying in front of the gate in the middle of the night, full of bruises and wounds. Look at your body and clothes, it's covered with blood. Don't you remember what happened to you?" He responded while explaining what happened to me.
"WHAT THE HELL? THAT WASN'T A DREAM?" I exclaimed. Since I thought all those things that happened were only a dream.
When I woke up, I can feel my entire body hurts, but I thought it's because I was sleeping all day without even moving or something from the sofa. However, come to think of it, I suddenly remembered what happened for the rest of the day.
The first thing that blasted into my mind is the voice that I heard before I collapsed. I went into a panic when I thought of the park because of what happened. I immediately asked Augustine to accompany me somewhere.
We ran speedily towards the place where the students of the school near us ganged up on me, and when we arrived, there was no sign of them there. However, when I inspected the surrounding closely, I can deduce that there was a fight here.
Marks of dried blood from the bench, pieces of ripped clothes somewhere near the fences, and a shard of glass where I think came from someone's eyeglasses. Although I think it was not a tremendous fight, it left a rather displeasing scene in the park.
"What the hell are you looking at, Xavier? Why did you even bring me here? Can't you see your own body? You are covered with wounds and bruises?" He asked irritably.
"I don't fully remember what happened, but I can tell you some parts of it. To be honest, I had various conflicts with a bunch of students from the school near ours," I responded and explained what happened.
"What the hell are you talking about? What school?" he replied curiously.
"Listen to me first, stop talking," I responded.
"Chill, go start," he replied, then I told him what happened here.
"So, I already told you about the conflicts I had while encountering some students from the school near ours, right? The thing is, remember that day when you arrived late at night because you were drunk?" I chipped in.
"Remembering it makes me puke again, bro stop," he responded, looking embarrassed.
"No, because that day, on my way to our house, I fell asleep inside the bus and missed my stop, but since coming back to the bus stop would be longer. I used the route where you need to pass an alley before reaching the house. There were these three students who tried to extort money from someone in the middle of the alley," I continued on, telling him what happened.
I skipped some parts since it is unnecessary for him to know everything. So after telling him about the situation, I showed him the dried blood and shattered pieces of glasses inside the park.
Although I don't remember anything that happened after they beat me up, I was honestly shocked while inspecting the whole place because of the marks it left.
"So that's what happened, let's go back. I also need to disinfect these wounds and rest for a bit," I added and went home with Augustine.
On our way home, I felt something that made me uncomfortable. It's as if there were multiple eyes watching every step I make. So I told Augustine that we race till we reach the house.
He insisted on complying since he can see how worn out my body is but with the use of a little push. I was able to force him to race with me, but what he didn't know that it was all a cover-up for his safety.
When we reached our house, memories started flooding in my mind, and there I can see visions of what happened in the park when those students ganged up on me. Seeing those in my head scared the hell out of me.
There's this feeling that I had when the memories returned one by one in my head, that feeling that my head is going to explode any minute. I fell on my knees and tried to conceal the pain that I'm feeling, but reminiscing the vision made my entire body remembered the pain that they caused.
However, a bit deeper exploring my memory, I saw a monster, not a literal monster, but I saw myself. I saw myself beating everyone cruelly without any regard for their life. Everything happened so fast that when you even blink just once, you will see those students lying in the ground unconscious.
I tried my best to forget it, but I was unsuccessful. However, when I saw someone behind the red car again looking at me. It was the same guy that was looking at us the other day. It turned my attention against him, and that was helpful since it made me forget what was on my mind.
(What the hell? Why the hell is someone stalking us again?)
When I was about to stand up and chase after that man, my body wouldn't let me. I wondered why, because when Augustine and I went running to the park, there was no problem. However, when I looked at my clothes and body, it was ripped, and multiple wounds can be seen everywhere.
It was my chance to know who is the one who kept on stalking us for the last few days. That man might be the reason why I receive those hateful stares from the entire school because it bothers me since, in my opinion, I don't deserve to be treated like this.
(What wrong have I done? All my years in studying, I tried to be unnoticeable, but how come that in just a nick of time, people started to give me attention that I don't deserve?)
I stayed outside the gate of the house, feeling the midnight breeze looking up at the sky, admiring the beauty of the sky. Then Augustine went out and asked.
"Why are you still here, bro?" he asked.
"Come sit with me, bro. Admire the beauty of the sky with me, and let us both forget our problems for the meantime," I answered and asked him to sit with me.
"No, you need to clean those wounds and sleep for the rest of the day. Now, go inside and check the living room because I already prepared the kits for cleaning your wounds," he responded and quickly pulled me inside since I won't comply.
I went up to my room and showered for a bit, then went down again because Augustine wants to help me with cleaning my wounds.
He helped me with cleansing my wounds, and believe me, it would be better to just cleanse your own wounds because he doesn't even care whenever I say it hurts. He just kept on mocking me.
"Stop moving, you are the only idiot who fought a whole gang without any backup. So just shut up and finish cleaning your wounds and rest," He chipped in while helping me clean my wounds.
(Where can I ever find a friend like Augustine?)
After he finished helping me clean my wound, he also tried to cook for me a snack. However, this guy doesn't know how to use the stove or anything. So it resulted in me cooking the food. Although I don't entirely hate it, seeing someone care for you is something that flutters my heart.
The situation with my family, just a small kind of affection, would make me happy. And I am glad that Augustine is the one and only best friend I've ever had. Where can you find someone like him? He took me in and let me stay in his place, with no payment for rent or anything.
He treated me like the human I am. He treated me more than a friend. He treated me like a family. And if this is what family truly means, then I am glad that my friend is my family. After we finished eating the snack, he tried to make but turned out that I was the one who continued.
I went to my room and lay down on the bed, and when I closed my eyes, I saw her again, The girl in my dreams.
