A Simple Life

Location - Yandiroo Village

A dishevelled boy, clad in worn, beige cloth attire spotted with tears and rips, exhibiting his tough and poor life, and wielding a rusty yet reliable hoe, toiled away on the unforgiving farmland. A gentle setting sun sat atop the lightly clouded sky and released perpetual heat for life below, just as it had for multiple millennia. "Aryan!". Yelled a feminine voice from a distant window. "Yes, mother!?" The boy, Aryan, returned. "Dinner!", "Coming!" The boy, rejuvenated by the thought of his mothers famous pottage, held his tool and sprinted as fast as his fatigued legs could carry him, just imagining the steaming, thick and flavourful soup containing succulent meat and fresh vegetables laying in wait for him at home caused him salivate.

Panting and hungry, Aryan arrived at his abode, a modest, one floor thatch hut with a door, two windows and three rooms that barely accommodated his family of four. He pushed open the rotting door with gusto and went to sit at the dining table with the floorboards creaking at every step he took. Sitting at the table was his energetic younger brother, Adam, who at the age of 8 stood at an average height of 4ft with an athletic build from his highly active lifestyle, had average length dirty blond hair that flopped over his forehead and deep oceanic blue eyes that sat on a well defined immature face. His beautiful, elegant mother, Jasmin, had long, soft blonde hair that flowed down the back of her slim 5ft 2 figure and earthly brown eyes placed on an exquisite face topped with lush golden brows and high cheekbones. Next sat his tough yet caring father, Micheal, that stood with a built and sturdy 6ft 3 statue covered in well defined muscles, imperative in his daily lifestyle, piercing azure eyes lie atop his defined face with short chestnut hair. Lastly sat Aryan, at the age of 12 he stood at a comfortable 5ft - slightly above average for his age - with a robust, athletic physique, courtesy of the hours of all the toiling and moiling on the fields, he had dark royal blue eyes and a cheeky smile with light, curly brown hair that sat atop his defined face.

On the shabby, cracked wood table sat four rugged clay bowls filled to the brim with steaming soup, each with a family member sitting behind. "How is the farm doing?", Asked Jasmin with a sweet and caring voice, "It's the same as always, the ground is still dead and the dirt is still harsh", Answered Aryan in a depressed voice, bringing the mood of the meal down, but certainly not enough to stop the ravenous eating of said Aryan. But a young, cute high pitched voice cut the downtrodden atmosphere in half, "How was the hunt, Dad?", although the answer was as pessimistic as the last, Michael couldn't bear to disappoint his young son ,"It went well, we should be fine with food for now." replied the caring man, with an experienced and aged voice, but not without adding with a cheeky smile, "But that is to be expected with a man such as I on the squad", His wife lightly punched him with a smile "Stop bragging", the two boys also couldn't help but let out small laughs. With the mood lightened the merry family conversed until they finished their delicious meals contently

Leaving the dinner table, Aryan and Adam returned to their shared room to sleep for the night, inside the room sat two 3ft by 6ft wood beds padded with hay and covered in a coarse layer of fabric that did little to soften its jaggedness. The two boys laid there, Adam talked about how he recently learnt how to do addition and subtraction - terms completely foreign to the incompetent Aryan - from the village chief. You see, Adam has been a very intelligent child since being an infant. At 3 months of age Adam was able to speak semi-understandably, and after the village chief learnt of his advanced intellect he offered to teach him how to read and write - very much to the jubilation of Jasmin and Michael. After just a year and a half of being taught he was able to read and write, now at the age of 8 Adam was able to speak fluently, read and write perfectly, has learnt a whole plethora of knowledge, and has recently started learning arithmetic. And so, completely ignorant Aryan sat listening contently under the silvery moonlight shining through the window. Eventually, though fatigue hit even the exuberant and bright little boy, "Goodnight brother.". "Goodnight".

Waking up rejuvenated the next morning, both boys had a 'refreshing' bath, prepared by their 'caring' mother, in water that chilled the bone, dressed in there usual attire and prepared for another day's hard work, or rather, hard labour for Aryan and sprinting around chasing pigs for Adam, with the occasional lesson from the village chief, but as they say, each to his own.

Aryan worked the infertile fields, Michael hunted the desolate lands, Jasmin cared for Adam and kept the house running, structure standing and dinner cooking all the while Adam learnt maths and ran around causing mayhem at a whim, oblivious to the atrocities of life. As it should be.

Life continued like this for Aryan and his family, it may not have been an easy life but it was a simple one and he was content with it.
