King of Chaos, CH 41

(Earlier)

Hannah stared at the blurry dots all around her. She sensed twelve individual unholy auras but there could be possibly more. She was a bit scared but there was a whisper in her mind.

{quick! summon a heroic spirit.}

Hannah knew it was Myrac and immediately tried summoning. But just as soon as she concentrated hard enough, her world went black.

Hannah felt light almost as if she could float to the very sky. Her initial reaction was one of fear but her vision changed and what she saw took her breath away. It was a large flat terrain of dead creatures everywhere.

The sun was a bright red and the ground was the colour of darkness. There were no clouds but a ring of darkness had circled the sun. It was a dead land.

Hannah found that she could walk on the dark soil and headed for what she thought was a whale corpse.

It's body was covered in dark soot with traces of dried blood surrounding the edges of it's giant mouth. She traced her hand on it's backside but she felt nothing almost as if her sense of touch was gone.

She moved to another corpse that was of a much smaller size as compared to the whale. She held up the mangled corpse of an Arctic fox. It was covered in dark soot and small maggots eating away at it's flesh, making it look filthy. It was missing it's hind legs and there were slice marks on it's underbelly.

Hannah frowned and put the corpse back on the ground. She still couldn't feel anything. She could see, she could hear the sound of her footsteps on the dried ground, she could even taste the filth in the air.

But she couldn't feel anything. She moved around the corpses like a reaper inspecting the dead. She came across creatures she had only read about but never seen face to face.

A Phoenix with half of it's feathers plucked from it's body. A dire wolf with half it's body gone. But she stopped walking when she came across something twice her height.

A giant's foot. Hannah was dumbstruck as she stared at the green toes that had chunks of flesh missing almost as if bitten off.

She calmed her heart and jumped, to her surprise she jumped over the foot easily and landed on the giant's ankle. She stared forward and held back the desire to vomit.

What she looked at was no longer a giant but a murder scene.

The giant's body was split in half with the large intestines acting as some sort of chord between the halves. The upper half of the giant's body had been struck through the heart by a crimson spear dripping with blood. The spear wasn't tall as compared to the giant but it had clearly killed it. Hannah couldn't distinguish anything of the giant's face as she hurriedly moved to it's upper body, (avoiding the intestine bridge at all costs), but it had definitely seen better days.

Hannah decided to keep moving ahead. She had simply tried to summon a servant but hadn't expected something like this. She came to a halt when she heard something.

"Awoo!"

It was a howl but if it belonged to a dog or wolf was unknown. Hannah frowned and quickened her pace. The howl had come from the direction behind her so logically it was best to move forward. She stumbled across a pile of bones but she had no interest in what type of creature they had belonged to.

But then she came to a stop once more. Something was changing, she looked up to the bright red sky and nearly stumbled.

"What...what the heck is that..."

The sky was being blotted out by a large swirling mass of dark figures. They moved silently to completely block out the sky. Hannah stared at the black mass and blanched when she realized what it was.

"Myrmekes...a whole colony."

She noticed this as little drops of dark mass fell down just as the mass completely blocked the sun. These little drops were individual Myrmekes that were the size of big dogs. They made sick crunching sounds as they landed on the corpse spraying dark soot and blood high into the air.

She needed to run. Hannah turned and ran as quickly as she could.

{what is this place...why am I here?!}

Hannah didn't look back as she jumped over corpses and ducked under bone arches. The ground had become softer but this wasn't her concern. She stopped running when she heard it.

"Snap! Snap!"

There was a Myrmeke nearby. Hannah stopped running and hid under the ribcage of what she thought was a dragon corpse. The Myrmeke stepped into view with it's legs kicking up soot. It snapped its mandibles while it's antennae wiggled in the air. Hannah kept silent but the Myrmeke didn't move away instead it looked directly into Hannah's eyes.

It moved closer with it's beady eyes glowing softly like torches. It opened its mandibles wide and approached the dragon corpse. Hannah stared at the grotesque Myrmeke and found tears running down her face. She was scared.

{Please someone, save me}

Just as the Myrmeke reached the ribcage she heard the dull sound of a heavy impact. The ant stopped and scurried away without looking back at Hannah. The smell of burning flesh filled her nostrils as she climbed out of her hiding place to see what had caused the impact.

Her eyes opened wide as she stared at what it was.

A teenage looking boy, was standing atop a crushed whale corpse with dark blood staining his face. Hannah looked up and there was a large hole in the living dark mass as if the boy fell through it.

The boy held the head of a Myrmeke in one hand and his face looked emotionless as he crushed its mandibles with his fingers.

The boy was definitely looking her way.

Hannah expected the bog to head her way but he remained on the whale corpse. What scared her even more was when she could hear him talking.

"You shouldn't have been brought here, not now at least. However, it be best I warn you now before it's too late. You must defeat the ancient within eight days from today, before he regains his power completely."

"Who are you..."

"I am the king of chaos, Damian Lore..."

"What!? surely your not implying..."

"Look I have no time to prove my authenticity to you right now but you must take my word seriously. If you don't defeat the ancient within eight days that world will fall to destruction and you too shall die."

"Why would that happen!?"

"Bloody hell!? I really can not explain but believe me or your life will come to an end. You must not die no matter the cost, my queen."

Then the world went blank.
