The Nanite Necromancer: Resurrecting Darkness

Alexander sank deeper into the salty river that fed into the Ocean. his wound bleeding into the ocean, despite the cauterizing burn from the quarter sized hole. 'No, please. Not like this. Not when everything was working out. Quin, Seraphina, Grey, I'm so sorry. every time I try to fix things.. I should have know not to trust those rich bastards. I swear to any god that will listen, give me a break, will you!' Alexander replayed the moment of the attack. Kahawai stood over Alexander with the golden flame threatening to blast him. the spell was a low first tier spell using fire and air to condense and increase in power enough to melt metal. "You're joking, right Kahawai. You cant just hit me with that. I'm only ranked F. Your going to kill me." He flinched, taking a step backwards. the edge of the dock making him step forward again. "You have no one to blame but yourself, Alexander. This world is unforgiving and I cannot have you as a weak link. This is to important! Survive this and you will prove you are ready. If you cant then you will die here. Better her than getting the rest of us killed later." Kahawai held his spell at Alexander, firing at his center. 'I wont die, not like this!' A swirl of darkness took him further down into the river, swallowing him. Do you wish to live? 'Yes!' Will you serve? 'Yes, as long as I can live with my family. Anything.' Then I have found you. The soothing voice faded, releasing the darkness around him. A mass of darkness flooded round Alexander, slightly different from the magical darkness. it covered his body and entered the wound and into his body. 'User found, initiating repair function. greeting user. Hello host, you may call us, Lunaris.'

Alexander stood up from the ground, no worse for ware. The nice suit, was perfectly fine. It's fibers were made of an advanced material that protected its Wearer from basic damage. The assistant explained that fights over materials do take place at the Foundry over certain Artefacts. Protecting their customers was their number one priority.

"Are you hurt?" She asked, blushing slightly. The commotion drawing the attention of the masked customers around them.

"I'm good, just a little sore. I was used to being flipped on the first week with Nakamura. Mabey we should get out of here. I'm sure they can just bill us for the damages."

'This resistance skill.. can it be used for other things. Could it get so powerful that I become invulnerable to all attacks? I need to test this out as soon as possible. Lunaris, can you simulate this some how?'

'Impossible. According to my systems, harming you would harm myself, which I can not do. However, if you were to get attacked I could test the abilities of this system.' Lunaris said as they walked up to the group at the fanciest restaurant on the strip; The Soul Proprietor.

The restaurant seated them immediately, after making room for them in the VIP room. Their dinner was wonderful as they talked about the things he bought and the Akamai clan.

"Elder, has there ever been any special abilities in the world of magic? Like fancy screens or being able to gain power form attacks?" He asked nonchalantly.

"Hum. There have been instances of advanced masters taking control of another's mana, magic that could absorb another's strength and make it their own, is not common. Kalani is one such anomaly. Out of the six elements, darkness is the least used, but my granddaughter has both affinities for Light and Darkness. Unheard of in the world."

Kalani remained stoic, nodding affirmatively at the elder. Alexander saw her for the first time in awhile as her true self at the Foundry, another kid like him. He felt the responsibility she probly had as a daughter of the Akamai, disgraced though she may be. As he had a similar responsibility for his family.

"That's so cool," Seraphina thought out loud. "I wish I could be that lucky."

Kalani smirked at that, seeing how happy the four of them where, especially Grey. When she thought of him she sighed, her mind far away to her own family.

"I wanted to train more in magic, Elder. Could you do me a favor for the next training session?" Alexander hinted, getting a positive nod at his suggestion.

"That sounds doable."

They finished their meal joyously, giving their thanks to the Hawaiian chef. It was late afternoon when Geralt drove home, taking Kalani with them. The drive home sapped the anxiety of what happened to them a day ago away like water.

"Where are we going Grandpa?" Seraphina asked, seeing a different street than normal.

"We're going to the estate? It's where the Akamais' on the Island stay." Alexander responded from memory of the way there. The familiar treesspeed by in neat rows as the smell of the seas grew thicker.

The afternoon sun had began to set in the west, just behind the estate, but the banners and balloons set up for their arrival.

The welcome home celebration for their adoption was friendly and filled with amazing food, just for them and the residents. Nakamura, Fox, and Max, all came to celebrate with them, some living there for ease of use and the security of having Greene tech security systems.

The night wound down and Alexander sat in the back of the estate. Using the outside area to practice what they both called Accumulation for simplicity sake.

Lunaris aided in his ability by strengthening his mana system through the nanites. In the form of a helix, the mana veins pulsed with mana from the combined nanites and natural formations of mana. Stronger and stronger the powere coursed through his body untill his core stretched more and expanded.

He took out his Artefacts, trying something new he felt from the nanites. They swarmed the sword and shield, devouring the metal entirely like ants to a leaf. Alexanders sadness at losing his first gate weapon was soon turned, when the nanites reformed they took the form of the sword and shield.

'Your reform ability is amazing, Lunaris. To bad you have to destroy the item to do it.'

'Further upgrades from stronger materials may prove to fix that problem. The stronger the material the more upgrades to the nanites I can do. However you will need to have a stronger body in order to handle the new upgrades.'

The nanite sword had a blackish red blade the size of a short sword, pulsing with a white glow with the shield. The shield had a large reddish orange gem which Lunaris used to scan her surroundings without Alexanders sight.

'This is earth? Intresting.' She thought, noticing the difference in looking through her own eyes.

After some time practicing with the sword, Lunaris sent out a pulse of mana, scanning the area quickly for what Alexander wanted. The cool breeze of the water drafted through the forest, buffering him from the humid air every so often.

'I have located it. A low signature is directly north of us. They are slightly stronger than the Goblins you faced, but we'll withing our ability to escape from.'

Traveling further from the estate than he had ever traveled, he came to a glowing crevice in the night. It had a signature white glow for the weakest of Gates. Just to be sure, he asked Lunaris to search only for rank F gates, and it paid off.

Alexander brandished the blade and carved the crevice wider, opening rit enough for him to reach into and enter the gate.

The dark tropics of the island gave way to a forever sunset sky of a desolate swamp. Fog spread wide between leafless trunks of trees and marshes. Bull croaks of wildlife and buzzing of insect wings harmonized to each other, as large hairy canine like creatures sniffed around.

'This is an F ranked gate? Those are kobold, from what the books in the estate described. They hunt in packs and are resistant to magic. But unlucky for them, I'm not going to use much magic.' Alexander scanned the area with Lunaris and set his traps up. When he was ready he began his work.

'I've reached our limit it seems. Five wires and that's it. Nothing I haven't worked with before at the Orphanage. Just wrap it around the smaller tress and then the bigger ones and there you have a wire trap. Now to lure in my first guest..'

Alexander took his time with the first Kobold, lurking behind a group before rustling to get its attention. The creature perked its ears up to the noise, turning to sniff the air angrily.

'Good boy. Yes, over here you mangey mutt.'

To his dismay the Kobold, the size of an average man, fur all over its body, and canine like legs made its way with its pack of four. With only four wires set up to trap the beasts, five would be out of his reach.

'Curse the Gods!'

The Beasts sniffed the entire way as they carefully spilt up into two. The leader, a grey and haggard Kobold, stayed behind to give orders. It growled and barked to hurry them. Aggitated at the time it took the young ones to find anything, it's bones ached from the weather and it hated being away from its mate.

Alexander stayed where he was in front of them, the wires the only defense besides his shield. It's jewel glowed in the shadow of the trees, red light scanning the beasts with mana and analyzed by Lunaris.

The first to fall into Alexanders trap was the closest to him, picking up his scent he howled and sprinted towards Alexander. The taste thought of tasting whatever creature hid behind the trees salivating its mouth. Alexander crouched, ready to spring backwards at any hint of failure.

Arrghh! Whimper!

The Kobold jumped at Alexander, leaping strongly with its back legs into the thing razor sharp wires. The ends wrapped round the beast like spider silk, the nanites activating and seeping into its skin like acid. The Kobold couldn't speak, just whine untill it was silenced by the wires.

The other Kobolds heard the ruckus but turned to see what the leader commanded. The Grey Kobold growled and sneered, taking big sniffs at the air. It commanded the other three to go together and search, not moving from its spot.

'Great, well atleast they aren't coming from the same way. Let see what happens.'

'Agreed. I'll keep you appraised of the situation.'
