Healing

I scoot my way to their room, finally making it after a good five minutes. I hate how big this house is, it's impossible to get anywhere when you can't move fast. Or at all, really. The place is a nightmare. I really should just sell the land and watch it all get bowled over, but I've been clinging to keeping it just so it's an asset I can use in case of an emergency. I guess that's a little paradoxical. I'm keeping it so that I don't have money when I need it, and saying I'm keeping it so I have money when I need it. As always, I'm getting off track.

I need to go talk to Bodies so that I can get my leg at least somewhat fixed- I'm probably going to have to go to an actual hospital for this, after it's all over. But right now, I'm just taking over the counter pain meds and getting a friend to strap it up, making it a problem for another day. Future Me is going to hate me for this, I just know it.

I finally make it to her room, and my pants are now covered in dust from this stupid house. I raise my hand and knock lightly on the door, waiting a second. When there's no response, I knock again, a little louder, and this time she walks out in a bathrobe, with a towel wrapped around her hair. Which is strange, given its only like three in the afternoon.

I would ask her about why she's bathing at this time of day, but she answers the question before I can ask it.

"I have a date" She says with a slight smile.

I do raise an eyebrow, hugely curious, but I decide not to ask who it's with- she would never tell me. Not out of secrecy- but to mess with me instead.

"I think my leg might be broken." I say with a grimace.

"Dumbass. How did that happen?" She replies.

"After the first kidnapping but before the second." I say, torn between laughing hysterically at the fact that I have to differentiate between kidnappings and having a mental breakdown at the same fact.

"By whom?"

"I don't know- but it's where I have my lovely new necklace" I say sarcastically, referring to the collar.

"Let me see that"

I incline my head, allowing her to get to it. It's kinda strange that we're just chilling in the hallway, but I don't want to invite myself into her room, it's rude!

"There's blood here, haven't you noticed?" She says in a worried tone, referring to the back of my neck.

Instinctively, I twist around to see it but of course I can't. "Is it bad? It doesn't hurt right now."

"It doesn't look bad, most of it is dried up. But I can't see where it's coming from- it looks like you have a scratch or something under the collar, and it's bleeding out from underneath it."

"It hurts when I try to pull it off- I think it's related. Maybe I'm imagining things... but I think it's attached to my spinal cord. So when I try and take it off, it gets stuck and yanks on the nerve. Does that make sense?"

"Yeah, it does." She says slowly. "I could be wrong, but I think historically it's been used? I can check, I guess. I know I've read about it somewhere, I just can't remember where."

"Maybe on Desolation?" I suggest, thinking about some of the worst things I've seen on there. I guess that's what happens when you take away all legislation- anything can happen.

"Maybe... anyway, let me get dressed and then we'll see about your leg. I'm not really equipped to deal with that" She says, gesturing lazily at my neck.

I sit outside the door for a few minutes, waiting for her to change, and when she throws open the door, I'm stunned.

"You look amazing!" I say, completely wowed.

"You think so?" She says grinning, doing a little twirl. She's wearing a strapless deep blue dress, which has an overlay at the top of some kind of shimmering white fabric- but you can still the blue underneath. The overall effect is like she's wearing the ocean. In her room, I can see some blue heels, the same colour as her dress which are really tall- I doubt I could stand, let alone walk in them.

"One hundred percent- I'm sure whoever you're going out with will be blown away!" I gush, forgetting about my leg for a moment.

"Let's fix you up now, or else I'll be late for dinner" She says.

"It's only 2 o'clock, isn't it?" I say, looking at my wrist- but I don't have my watch on. I must have forgotten to put it back on.

"It's 3, but I do still have to pick them up some flowers, and the place we're meeting is pretty far away- I don't want to be late" She says. Bodies isn't as much of anxious wreck as the rest of us usually are, but she's still nervous about her date, which is kind of adorable, in a way.

"I'm sure they won't mind in the least." I say, aiming to be reassuring. I obediently scoot into her room, and with a little help, sit on the edge of the bed, and try not to move.

Soon, she takes bandages and a pair of metal rods, splinting my leg easily. She also gives me a pair of crutches? I have no idea where she got them from, but they are here now I guess. Not complaining though, I've no reason to. It takes like fifteen minutes, and soon she shoos me out of her room so that she can keep getting ready for the night out. Before I leave, I make her promise to be careful. It's more than likely that the big bad is trying to get someone else to kill us, if he hasn't found someone already. I know from Desolation that there's no shortage to assassins for hire.

Future Me Hates Me is an incredible song by The Beths btw, listen to it
