[As of 11/30/23 this novel's ROUGH DRAFT is COMPLETED] [Warning: 18+ Content! - cursing, dark themes, sexual content, and other adult matters are present - NOTE: there is NO 'knotting' in this story for both those who come looking for it, and those who want to avoid it. I just wanted to give a head's up either way. LGBTQ+ representation is also in this novel. :)] This is book one of the Ylphasia series. War, betrayal, loss, growth - none of these things were aspects of life that Myranda had in mind when she finally met her destined mate. The only problem was that her chosen was someone she absolutely despised - Prince Metas, the next rightful King to the Lycan Kingdom. From the bottom rungs of society, everything above her seemed like a dream - it was too bad her preconceived notions were far from wrong. In their journey to make a brighter future for their entire kingdom, Metas and Myranda learn that there is so much more to just being mates than their shared love. As they navigate the complications of starting a revolution, both Metas and Myranda discover just how compatible they actually are - and how much their paring means for the future of their kind. ----------------------------------------------------- [EXCERPT] "If you want my place so much, you should challenge me when the time comes. This is cowardice. You think I can beat you-no...You know I can beat you, and so you're trying to hurt Myranda to make me weaker. You're a bastard, a cheat and a liar, and you don't deserve to rule over our kingdom - and you never will. You have no valor, no honor - and no moral compass," Metas spat towards him, and kept his hair up on end involuntarily. "I'm drunk right now and easily pushed you over like a small paper bag filled with shit. Since you've so brilliantly shown what you'd truly like to do, I'll make sure she is safe from you. Meanwhile, perhaps you should train or learn better tactics from your papa," Metas continued, and even grinned with delight. "Even if you beat me in combat, the rest of those in power want to see you fall. You won't last," Silas warned, and reformed into his mortal self. "...but I do intend on challenging you. Unless you want to kill me right here and now since you're so confident." "There is no honor in killing you without the glory of showing you exactly what I am capable of in front of everyone. I will take Joss' advice and do nothing for now. I don't want to throw away honor for revenge. If you come near her again, I will kill you before you ever get the chance to prance around in front of high society with a little speech, and show off to your wife and no friends. Understand?" Metas asked menacingly, and now his gums were visible as saliva dripped from his lips and teeth, barely holding himself back. "I will drink your blood through your eye sockets if you lay one more fucking claw on her - understood?" Metas warned as he advanced towards the blonde male. "You letting me live will be the biggest regret of your life, Metas. Hold those words close to your heart when you lose everything to me," Silas sneered and turned away, but not before he locked eyes with Joss with a dare in his green orbs.

A Very Unlucky Start

She hadn't slepr. It had been impossible because her dreams were filled with Metas. Her nose still held his scent. Her heart still longed to meet him again.

Myranda grumbled at it all as she whisked at the eggs she had cracked into her mixing bowl. She certainly didn't pay attention as she dumped the wet mixture right into the dry without the milk added to the rest of the liquid mix first.

She groaned out in anger and debated on if she had time to start over, but decided that it wasn't really worth it. She'd just reserve this batch of muffin for herself, and for her siblings if they really did return in a few hours as they promised.

Exasperated, she reached over for the last of the berries she had in reserve, freshly washed and ready to go - when she clumsily knocked the ceramic bowl off and heard it shatter along with her patience.

"Son of a bitch! No! Goddess be damned! Why? Fucking why!?" She wailed out in anger and sadness. There was no way to save berries mixed with ceramic shards. The last thing she needed was for anyone to cut their mouths or breath a tooth.

Besides, she definitely needed more berries anyway. Now it just happened sooner than later. Instead of a nice warm walk in the shining sun of the day, she now had to go out in the cool air of the early morning before the rays even hit the land.

"This day just gets better, and better, and better..." she mumbled. "Fine. Be like that, then you fucking bitch," she added as she looked up to the sky, presumably to curse at her Goddess.

It was the end of summer, but it was cold because they lived in the high mountains of the continent - far away from the other species they shared their world with. In fact, the recent war with the Vampires had died down in the last several years, and the gates had been left open much more now than they had before. Hopefully they would be free from guards this morning, and she wouldn't have to speak to anyone.

She braided her hair, made sure it was clasped with a few rings their people wore in their hair when they left the city. If something happened to them in either their mortal or Lycan form, they had something to leave behind like shiny breadcrumbs.

Part of her wanted to just run away and not return - but that was a stupid, and very foolish decision driven by deep emotion. Once more, she found it hard to stop her eyes from the desire to drain her sadness - and since no one was around, she let her pride fall a little and cried silently as she pulled an indigo cloak around her whose color had dimmed with time and use.

It felt nice as the sturdy cloth hid most of her features. She didn't want to have to explain herself to anyone in her clan, and she didn't want to show her face.

Should it still be cold outside, she opted for her snugly-fit leather pants that she hadn't worn in quite some time. At first they felt tight, but after a bit of movement, they fit perfectly again and conformed with her matured figure.

Myranda then put on a long-sleeve tunic that was woven from wool, and used an under-bust corset to keep her warmth insulated better (plus, it just looked cute - and as any girl knows no matter how 'feminine', it was great to look cute when you felt low).

What tied it all together, though were her tight black boots that laced up to her knees and kept her legs warm even in the deepest snow.

It would be her first time going out by herself, but she longed to be alone for a while, because if one moresoul lectured her about being 'wrong' about her feelings, she would bake a cake just to push someone's face into the fresh hot contents in hopes of it being scorched off.

She made her way down to the 'town center' which was the base of the entire mountain-city. All classes were allowed to come and go as needed, but only if it was business, and only if they were old enough to go on behest of their clan.

The relief she felt was unreal when she found that there were no royal guards on duty to the entrance - just the lower-ranked ones that weren't power-hungry jerks. It was more than likely because no one wanted the night shift. She walked passed them so easily without the need to explain because they more than likely didn't care anyway.

Their eyes definitely had some dark circles under them. That probably also helped as she slipped past them with a curt wave.

Myranda smiled as she heard her boots crunch above the snow with each step. Before, she had worried a bit about the temperature, but now she was pleased with how crisp the air was today. The forest wasn't too far of a march either - and her sour mood was replaced with a happier one as she hummed her way to the treeline where the snow was no longer accumulated, and the forest floor turned into soft earth merely dotted with white.

She had the deep urge to run through the trees as her 'native' self, but she was a little afraid to shift, being that she hadn't in such a long time - and that her coat was so unconventional that she was embarrassed by it.....buuuut no one was around, what could the harm be in letting go for a bit? Who could stop her out here? No one ever came out here.

It was decided - she was going to be free for a while and shake her bad mood.

When she felt she was far enough from the city, she found a nice tree branch to hang her basket on and put her cloak inside of it, followed by her boots. Myranda's native form wasn't large enough to 'absorb' all of her mortal attire, and so the less she had to deal with, the better. She also removed her corset with difficulty just in case it was a bit too much.

Once she had finished, the small female stretched and readied herself to change form, but her eyes became bewitched by the sight of a giant black wolf who chased his tail in a circle excitedly.

She could tell from here by her senses alone that it was Prince Metas.

'What is he doing out here!? Does he have to ruin all of my peace of mind? I came out here looking to escape, but instead this bastard is here.' She thought to herself, and then changed her mind about running free. Now she just wanted to run home.

Just as she ducked behind the large tree that held her belongings, she knew he saw her as his golden eyes briefly swept past her own and sent a shiver down to her stomach so deep that the cold would never feel the same again.

This just reminds me of every bad day I've ever had that started off on the wrong foot.

I am sure we all can relate to that, too. It always starts with a dropped cup, or something small - and then you dribble coffee on your shirt, or get stuck in traffic due to an accident - you forget your lunch at home, and lose an important note/document/book, on top of that you trip in front of everyone, and when you go home to try to get away from it all -- BOOM pinky toe smash.

If you're having one of those days, I hope tomorrow pays you back with interest and your day goes so great, you can't believe its happening!

May your friends be supportive, your heart content, and your soul shine brightly!
