Calm and Calculating

He had finally grasped what the meaning of the seemingly cryptic explanation of the skill was.

'The gaze of a monster is a deadly one, piercing at the opponent and seeing through their soul as a result…'

It all sounded clear now- although he was not able to see into the future or anything like that… he could actually foresee their attacks although he doubted this partial premonition ability that the title {Monster Archer} granted would actually be of use against a higher opponent- he would be able to foresee his own death probably.

Rem gritted his teeth as the tendrils tore off the ground, spinning furiously as the pieces of earth attached to it fell to the ground. Yet Rem wasn't actually scared of the monster.

It wasn't a true apex predator, the spinning motion made by those blades were dangerous though and could land critical hits if targeted on any of his vital spots but the spinning motion was also a disadvantage to the monster… Why? If the tendrils were cut off, then it would lose it's advantage over Rem.

Rem fueled the Crossbow with magical energy, letting the weapon grow warm as he pushed more magic into it. Rem clicked his tongue as the arrow was slowly formed from the sparks of magical energy that had engulfed the weapon.

With a squeal, the spider sent the tendrils shooting in the direction of Rem, their figures spinning and rippling through the air with the pressure akin to a projectile yet they were slowed down by Rem's monster-enhanced eyes- energy flowed from his soul into his eyes and the world around Rem seemed to grow slower, just a little bit slower than before though… the tendrils were still coming but at a slower pace than before.

Rem on the other hand ran straight for the tendrils, the crossbow being wrapped by the green aura as he navigated his way to the center of the crisis… the collision between the two were drawing closer only for the tendrils to snake into the air like Rem had expected them to.

Monsters had intelligence- not on the par of humans but intellect sharpened by their survival instincts, they were the Apex predators in a dungeon and even Rem didn't think he was strong enough to defeat a monster unless he used the Horns Of Malevolence which had a tremendous toll on his miniscule fatigue.

Rem pushed his weight down on his feet with a crouch and leapt to the right just as the tendrils converged on the ground, sending ripples and quakes throughout the makeshift battlefield.

'That was quite a lot of force,' Rem thought as he grabbed on the materialized arrow with his free hand and yanked it out of the crossbow- as he thought it would be hot.

He had come this close to death for one reason- to make sure that the SpiderGob's tendrils were so deep into the ground that it would be hard to withdraw them in a short time although they had indeed lost some speed when the monster had chosen to take the tendrils up and then dug them into the ground.

Yet he was not fazed, everything had gone according to plan although with a little bit of difference.

He arrived at the tendrils and stabbed the arrow into the first one, earning a cry from the SpiderGob as it tried to hasten the process of retrieving it's tendrils but they were stuck deeply underground.

As the arrow impaled the tendril, the burning pain was enough to send the SpiderGob into a fit… it's cries echoed through the air as the attempt to pull it's tendril out hastened yet Rem didn't show any kind of fear as he cut through the first tendril much to the Monster's dismay.

Rem targeted the second tendril, stabbing the arrow into it as the length of flesh connecting the tendril to the SpiderGob was instantly withdrawn… fresh monster blood spilling on the ground as a result.

Rem began severing the second tendril although he was having slight trouble since this tendril was shaking a lot more than the first tendril- the monster was of course trying to withdraw it's second volatile weapon but Rem wouldn't allow it happen, he intensified the force he pushed onto the arrow and after a little while- he succeeded in snapping off the second tendril before withdrawing from the area.

The alarmed squeal and the green blood dripping onto the ground was enough to assure the boy that he had done considerable damage to the monster yet he didn't feel satisfied- he threw away the other arrow as the glow surrounding it had faded and pointed the heavenly crossbow at the SpiderGob.

Three arrows were manifested before it's very eyes and they shot through the air at an alarming pace, piercing into the SpiderGob within a moment's notice- pompous amounts of monster blood flowed down the wounds as Rem realized that the skin of this monster was quite soft.

His eyes suddenly flashed, perhaps it was a warning of some sort but the blood that was on his hand- remnants of the blood that splashed on his arm during the moment where he severed the tendrils suddenly sent a burning jolt through his body.

'You've got to be kidding me,' Rem thought as he suddenly felt his body weigh down a lot more… the poison was coursing through his veins at an alarming rate.

His eyes narrowed at the Monster which had stopped screaming and was now looking at him with a sort of dangerous glee- Rem realized that the SpiderGob was not only dangerous because of the poison that was released through its tendrils but because of their blood… it was the true poison.

Rem coughed up blood, his eyes widening as a vein popped on his face.

'My body isn't resistant to Monster poisoning at all,' Rem thought.

He looked at the SpiderGob which had begun crawling down the tree and toward Rem in an attempt to devour the boy whole but Rem gazed at the Monster victoriously while his left hand reached into his pocket and withdrew a single vial.

'I guessed something like this would happen,'

That was Rem's thought before chugging down the liquid and feeling his body getting rejuvenated with each moment he slurped down on the rich fluid- it was a truly addictive experience.
