Gifts

"Uh, I don't think those seats are gonna work for you, Abe," Nakami said, trying to be polite. The gorilla looked kinda bummed out.

"Abe is sad, Abe is sad. Why you gotta bully me like that, boss?" he whined, acting like a little kid. It was kinda weird.

"Haha, just messing with you, man! Abe's got jokes," the gorilla laughed, showing off a surprisingly friendly side. Nakami was surprised, he never thought he'd get along with a gorilla so well.

Adam just stood there, gazing at the truck parked nearby, while Abe and Nakami chatted away. Unlike Wenwen, Abe wasn't much of a talker, but he seemed happy to share stories about his own life. Nakami was completely shocked when she found out that Abe was the last surviving member of his species from way back in 2222.

The whole project to save them from dying out had been a complete disaster, as Abe had gotten sick with some kind of disease that would kill him before he turned 10. Despite all the sadness, Abe had spent most of his time hanging out with humans and had learned all about our world.

Abe possessed a magical device that he wore on his ears, a set of hearing aids. Unless he told others about them, they would never know. Once they finished talking, Nakami decided to build a cart for Abe to use. He had already volunteered to help with gathering resources and even mining if they needed it, so having his own cart would make things a lot easier.

During their conversation, Adam mentioned that he used to be a mechanical engineer in his past life and even had a PhD in the field. He shared his aspiration of becoming a mechanic once again in this new world. Nakami was really impressed by Adam's educational background.

But what really caught Nakami's attention was when Adam offered some advice on what gifts to give Alice and Sarah. As a father of two, Adam had some great suggestions based on his own experience, and Nakami was grateful for his help.

After some searching, Nakami found the ideal gifts for Alice and Sarah, a set of Lego bricks for Sarah and an electric scooter for Alice. He spent 150E on both gifts and decided against getting Sarah a scooter since she was always in the lab or forge. As for Alice, Nakami planned to teach her about vehicles starting with the scooter. He was going to give the gifts later in the evening.

Nakami wanted to meet the survivors he hadn't seen yet, but Wenwen said it wasn't a good time. They were still messed up from yesterday's crazy events. Nakami got it and left in his new truck to go mining until the evening. He told Alice he wasn't coming back for lunch, so she shouldn't bother making it for him.

Nakami had turned most of his explosives into hand grenades, so he had to mine for more. He kept some grenades with him just in case, and hid the rest in his house where no one could find them.

"I spent 30E just to get all these grenades. But hey, at least I don't have to worry about those monsters raiding me anymore," Nakami said with a sense of relief.

Nakami spent the whole day at mining cave until it started to get dark. He built a big wooden warehouse in front of the cave entrance that was as big as a basketball court. It took him 25E to make it safe and strong. The warehouse had two doors with locks, and he put some of his resources in there along with parking his full truck. He then spent the rest of his time exploring the caves.

Nakami got back just after the sun had gone down and Abe helped him unload the ores. He quickly went to clean up and grab some dinner. After he was done, he taught the girls for an hour and started recording a video for his content. Earlier in the day, he had posted some for the them to learn.

"Finally done recording. So, how's everyone doing today?" Nakami asked as he put his phone in his pocket.

As they were chatting about their progress, Nakami suddenly stopped and looked at them.

"Hoho, I'm really happy to see you all doing great. And, I have something for each of you as a thank you for your help," he said with a smile.

Nakami handed Sarah a big box that was almost as big as she was. She eagerly opened it as he directed her to.

When Sarah looked into the box, she was a bit surprised at first. But then she saw that it was a bunch of Legos with a bunch of instruction books. She didn't know exactly what to do with them at first but when she skimmed through the instruction book she realized what she could do with them now. She looked excited to start building something.

Nakami had initially been worried that she wouldn't like the gift and had even thought about getting her Barbie dolls instead. But in the end, he decided to go with Legos since he personally liked them better.

"Dub dub, dub dub, dub dub."

When Alice watched Sarah open her gift, she was filled with excitement as she waited for hers. She noticed another giant gift box just behind Nakami, so she knew it must be hers. Nakami then called her over to open her gift.

As she unwrapped her gift, Alice was unsure what it was at first, but she could tell from the wheels that it was some kind of vehicle. She looked a bit puzzled, which Nakami noticed, so he quickly explained to her that it was an electric scooter.

He told her that it would make it much easier for her to get around the base, especially when she had to open the gate. While the distance from her house to the main gate was walkable, it could be tiring, especially in the hot sun.

Nakami showed Alice how to use the scooter by holding onto it and keeping her steady. Sarah watched with excitement, but Nakami advised her that it would take practice and promised to get her a bicycle instead.

With Alice's determination and half an hour of practice, she was finally able to ride the scooter without falling. As the night grew later, Alice headed back home and couldn't wait to update her diary with her latest moment with him. Nakami had given her journals to study, but she also used them to write her personal diary after being inspired by seeing him do the same.

"Today, Nakami held my hand to help me learn how to ride the electric scooter. It was such a special moment for me and I'll never forget it :)"

Meanwhile, Nakami just done upgrading the road he had built earlier. He wanted to make it wider and sturdy enough to withstand the weight of his truck, especially when it was fully loaded.

Abe had been watching the road upgrading process from afar and was in awe. He rushed over to Nakami at the dining area, which caught Wenwen's attention and she followed after him, curious about what was happening.

As Nakami saw both Abe and Wenwen approaching him.

He thought to himself, "This must be their first time watching me use this skill openly in public. They must find it very strange."

Nakami started explaining his skill to Abe and Wenwen, without giving away too much information. He also discussed the potential of the magical device they had brought with them while transmigrating to this world. As the device had given him some unique abilities, he suggested that theirs might have its own unique specialties too.

Wenwen told Nakami that the remaining survivors were not yet ready to meet him, so he didn't push the matter. She spent most of her time following him, wanting to know more about his plans to improve the base, both short-term and long-term.

Although Nakami didn't have any long-term plans at the moment, preferring to take things slowly and steadily, he shared some of his ideas with her. Wenwen persisted in nagging him, but Nakami promised to update her once he had something concrete in mind.

Currently, Wenwen was handling the distribution of work among the people in the base, except for Nakami, of course. She assigned tasks based on the residents' abilities.

Nakami reminded Wenwen to be mindful when assigning tasks to others, cautioning her not to be too forceful. He added, "If anything goes wrong, just let me know immediately."

Nakami left Wenwen alone in the dining area and headed outside on a wooden boat he made himself. He carried a backpack full of weapons, including grenades, and ran towards where he had previously encountered the wolves.

He decided to launch an offensive using the explosives he had on hand.
