Village in ruins

With a couple of minutes away from arriving at the village, Aeon was the first one to notice the smoke coming from the direction of the village.

Moments later the twins also noticed the smoke. As soon as Lark confirmed the direction where the smoke was coming from, he dropped the laundry basket and started running as fast as he could towards the village while his sister followed behind him.

As the twins were making their way towards the village, Aeon was simply staring at the smoke and thought to himself, 'I have a really bad feeling about this'.

After also leaving his laundry behind, he easily caught up with the twins and proceeded to make their way back to their home.

A few minutes later they arrived at the gate and what greeted them was not something a 14 year old kid should ever see.

The bodies of the village guards they spoke to a few hour prior had been badly mangled, with the only thing identifying them are the torn leather armour they are known for.

Seeing this, Eona started vomiting immediately, while Lark looked away trying his hardest not to do the same as his sister.

A few moments later, after getting their bearings straight, Lark said

"We need to get back to the orphanage", while looking at his sister. Listening to his words, Eona simply nodded hear head while she wore facial expression full of dread.

While the twins were making their way towards the orphanage, Aeon slowly walked through the village gate with tense expression as he saw bodies in similar states to the guards littered as far as his eyes can see with most houses either on fire or with its windows and doors broken entirely.

The once prosperous village of Alfall was now in ruins.

After a couple of steps, he stopped infront of a weirds set of footprints that didn't resemble any human or animal tracks that he had ever encountered, even when taking to account the ones he encountered before living in the orphanage.

Bringing his nose closer to the ground, Aeon started sniffing the tracks.

*Snif* *Snif* *Snif*

'Weird, the smell is somewhat similar to that of humans but at the same time very different'

Getting eerie vibe from the tracks, Aeon rushed towards the orphanage hoping that his friends are safe, while he couldn't care less about the rest.

After making his was to the orphanage, Aeon saw that the orphanage door was completely shattered, and the same weird footprints making their way inside.

Deciding to go towards the sleeping quarters where he and his friends slept, Aeon saw signs of a fight happening throughout the place, with blood trails going around the orphanage.

As he was about to arrive at the sleeping quarters, he saw the body of the headmistress cut in half. Seeing her body, Aeon started to remember how they had met while Aeon was still around 8 years old.

Since he could remember, he was living in the forest with barely any human contact, and those he met always tried to harm him, so he always avoided them.

One day when he found the river near this village, he saw the Headmistress washing the dirty clothes by the stream. Seeing a weak looking creature, Aeon decided to attack her and secure some food...

Ambushing her from behind, Aeon immediately aimed at her throat. As fate would have it, the headmistress was no ordinary old woman, but a former soldier that moved to this village after and injury she sustained during her service and was able to preform simple magic.

Try as he might, but his teeth couldn't break the skin on her throat.

Instead of fighting back her attacker, the headmistress simply hugged him while he tried to kill her. That was the first time anyone had ever showed him compassion, which highly confused him so he decided to run away.

After multiple encounters, the headmistress finally tamed the beast and bribed him with food to join the orphanage. There he first learned how to write and speak as well as how the world works.

Reminiscing about the past, Aeon silently wiped the single tear trailing from his eye and moved towards the sleeping quarters.

After entering the sleeping quarters, Aeon saw his friends rummaging underneath Lark's bed. After a short moment, Eona came out with a small wooden box and said

"Thank god its still here" Both sighed in relief.

Looking at the engraved wooden box, Aeon couldn't help but ask "What's so important about this box that both of you would run so recklessly towards the orphanage to find it?"

"This was what was found with us on the front door of the orphanage when were still babies. It contains two pendants. One is a sword, while the other is a circle with weird engravings on it similar to the ones on the box" said Lark.

"And once you put the sword over the circle, this happens" Said Eona while simultaneously doing it.

Once the ordinary looking sword pendant was placed over the circle, the once ordinary sword pendant started glowing in a bright blue, with the parts not glowing spelling the name Lark. While the engravings on the circle also started to glow in a dim blue color and the name Eona shining in a bright green color.

"So thats how you got your names!" Exclaimed Aeon, to which the siblings nodded.

This is my first Novel, so I know that the writing in the beginning will be sort of bad. Any comments will be much appreciated!
