Chapter One hundred and Fifty-one

It had been days since Jay had been in the hospital. He had fainted from loss of blood the previous time and the bullet had barely missed his heart. Somehow, Charlie had found a way to pin down on Pablo and his cronies everything that had happened and he was being dragged around. Of course, they had to find some incentives for the police but the entire idea was to keep the direction of the law enforcement agencies far away from Jay. Bella however had refused leaving his bed side hoping and praying for him to wake up. All she heard was the faint beeping of the monitors. It was really hard, watching the one she loved in such situation.

Charlie had told her everything that had transpired and how they had been actually trying to find her. Bella had to acknowledge to him that she had actually been thinking about him all along and could bear him no grudge. Now she was seeing him, she felt sad like it was actually her fault everything had happened. She had been the one who sent him away, causing him to loose his temper. That had led to the accident. Thanks to all her presumptions, she nearly ruined everything they shared and stood for. It hurt her really, that she had to sit down there and watch him lying on that bed. She talked to him most times, even read him books that Jonathan would occasionally bring over alongside food to keep her company. All she wanted was for a sign, any sign at all that he was going to come back to her. To them.

Speaking of Jonathan. The latter had been comforted by his uncle all along and had to come to terms with the fact that Bella was not his woman. The sages were right, not everyone should be made a spouse. Some friendships actually would be there longer than marriages. A good sample right now was he and Bella. But also, he had to tell himself that pending whenever he was married, he would never be totally gone. He was going to hang around and wait like a cobra for Jay Martins to make a mistake. Then perhaps, he would claim her for himself as a prize well deserved. He continued making a lot of delicacies for her and stop by the library to pick up a book to keep her company while she waited.

Bella had been there by his side, dozing off occasionally and waking up. She was alone with him that night as her father had something to do at home. She drew her chair close to him and rested her head on the bed. She slept off and swept into the dream lands. In the dream, she saw the both of them, she and Jay talking a walk happily in a part and pushing one baby walking trolley each. She had never been this happy in her entire life and felt the compelling pull to stay there. She did not want to wake up and discover that everything was a lie but then, something thumped on her jaw while she slept. It happened once and then again, Bella woke up hurriedly. It was Jay, his fingers were moving...

She gave off an excited scream and ran out to call up the hospital attendants. She returned with the nurses and a doctor. The monitor beeping had taken another tone. It was at this point that she felt anxious. His fingers had stopped moving. Only like she had been hallucinating. The doctor checked things and turned to reassure her that everything would be alright. She did not want to believe it. She wanted a confirmation from Jay Martins himself. How could he bring up her hopes and kill it almost immediately. Bella lowered her gaze as she began to break down in tears, watching him and pleading that he amazed everyone. She could not put up with it anymore, not in this condition. She needed him, now, more than ever. Maybe it was just coincidence or fate. But then, he babies suddenly kicked....

And Jay Martins opened his eyes, gazing directly at Bella.
