The Great Spider

"Thoughs of us that were present when it arrived screamed in fear. Yet it shielded us from destruction. We watched as creation fell around the city. But nothing under the spiders legs was affected. Not long after a man claimed to speak for the great spider. At first people dismissed him as a mad man. But a few steps from the great spider later people believed. The man told of the great spider plight. He had been a man of the city. This city, the lost pioneers. Few remember why the city was named this and few cared. But he did, faced with such a terrible revelation. That the founders of the city had known but was ignored due to the passage of time. There city of mages had been lost in the land of nightmares and cosmic beings for some generations. A land that shouldn't exist. They had come here to delve into the chasm that is magic. But for all they learned they had failed to find away home. This was why the city had to face a never ending wave of abominations. They were caught in a fight that was not there own. May had given up and preferred to stave the invasion then find away home. But all hope wasn't lost some had endeavored behind the sences. They had finally done it, found away home. The way foward lead threw the cosmic being at war. Only after the survivors of the war were vanquish. Could they escape the imprisonment. He knew this and had endeavored to free them but the last four had rallied against him and caused the collapse. They had targeted the city in order to make him meet there attack. Yet they had failed to kill him or touch the city. These being were there enemy and only after he found an heir and transfered his power could they hope to match the cunning rats and free themselves. He attacked knowing there was no possibility of retreat afterwards so there was no choice but to continue foward or meet domination. This is the prophecy that became law amongst the believers. While the opposition argued weather the spider had such a right to choose for them and others flat out rejected his warning. Though all had to agree that the waves had increase in intensity and aggressiveness. The city was in turmoil. The cult like following the spider had amassed caused the city leaders some trouble. Though they still wouldn't act on his prophecy. So the cult gave up on them. They began recruiting candidates for there game. Clairvoyant individuals had explained the advanced and intricate game they played. The difference between players, pieces and pieces of pieces. While they were the ladder, no one should envy the task that the spider placed on there shoulders. Though at least the spider had spoken plainly and not in rhymes and riddles. Yet the simplicity of the prophecy let much open to interpretation after the advent of the heir. At least the direction and enemy was clear.
