Chapter 6

"Let's make this clear once and for all. I was very serious about Lina being treated appropriately here, she's no longer lower but of a high rank." Kate declared with all seriousness.

"I don't want anyone to bully her ever again and I want everyone to respect her as the Luna of the pack."

Wide shock could be seen on people's faces. Kate's tone was self-willed and retiring. She probably didn't want the position and was willing to hand it over to Lina, people thought.

"I'm sorry for all the fuse I've been creating." She finally admitted and apologized.

Alpha Gary dropped his fork and was staring at Kate all shattered but he tried his best to put himself in order. He realized that he was in the midst of people who were turning their heads from side to side to capture every expression.

With this statement, Kate resumed her meals, this time around getting so focused that she didn't raise her head. When she finally did, she was just catching glances with the individuals at the table.

Bella grabbed her hand and took her to her room. With the eyes she glared at her with, Kate knew she wanted more explanation than what they discussed.

"What the hell were you doing over there?" Bella scolded Kate, as soon as they set foot in her room, closing the door.

"Don't tell me you just became real friends with them and you won't be letting that little brat pay for what she did to you?" Bella's eyes poked out as though they were going to fall off from their sockets. She was dead serious.

Kate burst into laughter. Then she chuckles.

"I still don't think you fit what I told you," she glanced at the floor, then flinched her head to stare at her wide, their eyes locking gaze with each other.

"Would I act fake? Come on, I need to make it look so real," her face fell and she began laughing again. Bella slowly started to smile, then she joined in the laughter. She was amused by the way her friend could act funny most of the time.

As they went deeper into their discussions on the bed, Kate's phone rang. She picked it up, her mind was thinking up thoughts of it being either Alpha Gary or the Beta, both were concerned so deeply at how she spoke to Lina. To her surprise, as she peered into the screen, it was the king.

Her posture stood up straight. She then raised her gaze from the phone to look up at Bella who was staring at the phone's screen in deep shock. She gave her a wink.

"Pick up!" She motioned to Kate. "Get to hear what he has to say!"

Bella knew already how bossy and caring Lucius acted inside of her with her friend. On their way home in their car, Kate told her everything. Seeing his call now, she was eager to know what for. King Lucius had a weird kind of life. He was grossly focused on his job as the king but one thing he lacked was a social life with the people he was ruling.

He had no such time. Even social events were a turn-off for him, no matter how sacred it was, no one would catch a glimpse of him. Most people often wondered how he would fall in love and wondered why he didn't consider being a monk.

Kate tapped on the green button. "Hello, Your Majesty," she swallowed saliva out of nervousness.

"Yes Kate," Gary said sharply. "My birthday is coming soon. I wish to celebrate it. It's in three days." Kate formed an O with her lips. This was too sudden, she didn't expect it. Because he never celebrated his birthday and didn't pose for interviews, no one knew about his birth date.

"Guess you are surprised?" Kate refused to say something, she guessed it was one of his weird moments. Should she say yes, he would say something to prove her wrong or hurt her.

"I'm sorry, it might be how I treated you that makes you silent?"

She gasped. "How do you always get to guess correctly what I think in mind?" Kate couldn't afford to ask.

"I don't guess, I just know." He shocked her the most. "Aren't we mates?"

"Yes, yes, yes," Kate kept nodding her head with a blush on her lips. Bella hit her on the back, amused by the way she was immersed in the conversation.

"I knew she had feelings for him, no matter how bossy she made him look." She said in her mind.

"For the birthday, you'll be my special person but keep that a secret until then."

Kate swallowed the lump in her throat at this. She felt like throwing off the phone and dancing around the room but because she was still on the call with him, she had to compose herself.

"OK-ay, your majesty." She gave a nod even when the king wasn't physically present with her.

"The birthday will be held at the Ultra Modern Event Center in your pack," King Lucius said more to surprise Kate. She jumped up, giggling with Bella. She couldn't control herself any further.

"Who's that with you?" Lucius became somewhat stern in his tone.

"My best friend who always accompanies me," Kate replied. Bella went still at this moment as she waited to hear what Lucius would comment.

"Okay," he didn't say more than this.

"Your majesty, how will the preparation go?" Kate asked. This was quite important.

"You don't have to worry about that. I'm the king and I'll put everything in place. You only have to inform the Alpha." There was a brief silence.

"Guess that will ripple his heart a bit, he's gonna be jealous," Lucius mocked with a chuckle. "It's okay then."

He ended the call, leaving Kate and Bella to scream at the top of their voices. Their screams were enough to pull down the building, it would have attracted a lot of people if they hadn't switched on the soundproof system.

Later on in the day, Kate went to meet with Gary.

He blinked several times as he raised his eyes to look at her.

"What are you here for?" Gary couldn't understand why she was here to see her at his office.

"I'm here--" She planned to start this way but she immediately changed her mind. "The Alpha King called to inform me he would be celebrating his birthday this year..." Kate was watching his expression as she said this. His eyes darkened and narrowed telling her that he was both suspicious and confused.

"Why would the King call you to inform and not me?"

"I'm the Lu-," she wanted to say Luna but then she recalled she had given her position to Lina. She took a deep breath, shaking her head into a 'no.' She didn't have to take back her words, she was more than a Luna currently.

"Because I'm the one he prefers to pass the message through," Kate rolled her eyes, glaring outside the window.

"So, last but not least, the birthday is only three days away!" Alpha Gary stood up in a flash, his lips curved.

"What!" His breaths could be heard, they were loud enough. Kate laughed to herself.

"I thought you weren't afraid of anyone?" She asked deep within, then stared at him, giving him a light smirk.

"Don't worry, you don't need to do anything, attendance only is needed, by you and all important people." Kate's tone was aloof and strange, she folded her arms as she glared at Gary with darkened eyes. Gary blinked in fear, for the first time. He suspected some plan was being staged up against him but before he could say a single word, Kate stormed off.

He sank back to his seat with a heavy breath.

"What's all this?"

"What is the Alpha King up to?"

"He has never celebrated a birthday before?"

"Why did he pass through Kate?"

The next morning, Kate woke up to a message from the Alpha King. She wished Bella was there as she opened it but she would forward it to her.

Her heart played ripples, sensations intensified as she tapped on the message. When her eyes set on the message, her phone fell.

"Good morning, my queen!" She blinked several times, a doubt in mind if this was part of the dream of the night.

Her eyes moved on to the next message.

"I've ordered a gift package for you ahead of my birthday. You will get it at your doorstep this morning."

"How did you navigate my doorstep?" Kate had in mind to ask but immediately reset her brain. The question sounded so dumb. First of all, he wouldn't be the one to bring it and whoever was dispatched to bring it would ask for Luna's apartment.

She nodded her head.

"Cool!" She told herself.

"Good morning, Your Majesty." She finally responded with a love emoji, a shy blush on her cheeks as she wondered what his response would be when he saw it.

The profile icon dropped down to her message, the phone slipped through her fingers falling on the bed. She shut her eyes tight, her hands to her head.

"Should I be showing love or he's meant to do this?" She wondered.

"But he called me my queen?"

Kate slowly opened her eyes to see Lucius respond, to her wildest shock, he dropped a very huge red heart.

She let out a gasp, and just then she recalled she hadn't replied to his offer of sending a gift package to her doorstep.

"I'm grateful, Your Majesty," She quickly scribbled and hit the send button, attaching a blushing emoji.

King Lucius smiled and went offline. After he went offline, Kate jumped up from her bed, slid into her slippers and ran downstairs in her pajamas.

She was so excited that she didn't think of changing up or even washing her face. She was glad that people didn't wake.

She couldn't wait to share this great news with her friend.

At around 10 AM, she arrived to greet Lina. She didn't see her at the breakfast table, even Gary but his case wasn't much of her concern. She was determined to feign a perfect friendship with Lina which is why she decided to check on her.

When she arrived at their apartment, she saw Gary and Lina standing outside, they were in each other's arms but this didn't matter any longer. In front of them was the despatch rider, her mind immediately linked to King Lucius'. She wanted to run to him and snatch the gift away, scolding in his face, "Why would you take my most cherished gift to this senseless girl?"

She calmed down. It was her gift and she will still end up receiving it.

"Good morning, aunt." Lina greeted. "Please come, I guess this gift package is for you."

"I haven't been in contact with the Alpha King, so he can't send me a gift," her voice was weak. Lina was battling to defend herself so she didn't get issues with her new Alpha.

Kate could see it. She smiled, waving at her not to worry. Her expression was cool and thoughtful.

"What's that?" She took a deep breath, pretending as though she didn't know what was going on actually.

Kate walked over, her eyes cautious not to meet with Gary, she was bent on totally ignoring him. Meanwhile, he was giving her bad glares but Kate had no such time to notice.

She approached and inspected the gift which was inside a red box, quite large, all sealed with a white ribbon which had a gold heart crested in the midst. Even from the exterior, the gift looked expensive and seemed like a gift from a lover to his beloved.

Gary was soaked with jealousy. Kate knew he would and this is what she wanted. She grinned, with lips almost closed.

"I guess it's for you!" He managed to speak, but his voice was cracked, upon Kate not saying a word or lifting her head, he went further.

"What relationship do you have with the Alpha King that he should send you such an expensive gift?"

Kate's gaze was still lowered at the gift as she was smiling in admiration, but as these words of his struck her, the smile disappeared. She glared at him with a hateful frown on her face.

"If there's any relationship I have with him, you will know soon."

Her gaze moved to the despatch rider. "Next time, be sure of where you drop gifts. I'm still the Luna but to a greater extent!" She turned and briskly walked away.

The rider bowed with respect while Gary and Lina gazed at each other, with their jaws dropped.

"What did she just say?" Gary questioned.

"What does she mean to a greater extent?" Lina added. Their minds were filled with suspicions, yet they couldn't conclude. The Alpha King was a weird person, he knew nothing about love.

They couldn't say a word.
