Before Carlo could reply, Monica snapped, “I can’t even talk to someone now? Leave him alone. He’s not hurting anything.”

“It’s Mrs. Eaton. And if you don’t leave us alone, my lawyer will make sure you lose your badge for harassing us.”

The cop wasn’t buying it, and frankly, Carlo thought she was blowing hot air, too. “Look, I don’t want to be any trouble.” He’d just go upstairs and tell Joe they had to find a back way out of here.
