CHAP 5: THE RUTHLESS CEO

JACKLING POV

Beautiful, stunning, lustrious; these words where not enough to describe the dazzling splendour of the building before me .

Walker's Co was one of the most renowned enterprises in the world.

I can't still believe that as from now hence forth I will be working here!

Yes you got it right guys.... I successfully managed to get employed here! A while ago, I received a call from one of their agents informing me that I got the post.

I was so happy that I literally screamed!

But now all the excitement and enthusiasm I felt in the morning where slowly turning to anxiety and nervousness.

I felt like a transfer student entering her new school for the first time!

New friends, new environment, new life!

"Calm down Jackling!.. you can handle this" I cheered myself up and made a silent prayer before stepping into the building.

I moved to the reception and greeted the receptionist there. I noticed it was the same lady from before and she looked surprise or rather shocked to see me.

"Hi! I'm the new cyber security agent... could you please indicate me the security department's floor?" I asked ignoring the look on her face and giving her a polite smile.

"Uh..uh floor 40" she stuttered

"Thanks!" I winked and left.

Yes baby! I got the post. Thought I wouldn't make it right... I couldn't help but rejoice over this little victory as I moved towards the lift.

But as I headed for the lift, I noticed that something was going on. The lobby was way too busy.

Either they were preparing for something big or actually it was just normal to find people rushing from left to right in this enterprise.

I got into the lift and few minutes later I was on the 40th floor. I moved along a corridor and I reached a door with a silver plate on which was written Security Department.

I then opened the door revealing to me a huge office room made up of cubicles. Every one on this floor too seemed to be very busy.

I stood there watching people rushing up and down when an earderly bald-head man approached me.

"Hey you...why are you standing here doing nothing? Can't you see we have lots of work to do? Stop lazing around and get to work already" He addressed me.

"Uh... I would love to but I don't know what exactly I'm to do. Actually I'm new here sir" I stated

"Ah... I see! You must be the new CS agent right?" He asked

"Yes that's me. I'm Jackling Kyle. It's a pleasure meeting you sir" I smiled.

He huffed and placed his left hand on his bald spot.

"Great!.. now I have to take care of this too!" He exclaimed.

I could sense he was slightly pissed so I frowned in confusion.

"Oh don't get me wrong dear... it's just that with the arrival of the enterprise's CEO I'm very busy. I need to make sure everything in our department is in order and I don't have time to take care of you now" he explained

"O!!" I mouthed. So that's the reason for the ruckus.

"My bad I didn't even present myself. My name is Robert Houston head of the security department. I have to say miss Kyle... you chose a pretty unfortunate day to join us. Nevertheless I will show you to your cubicle and your first task would be to sit still until I'm free enough to attend to you."

What a warm welcome! I thought sarcastically. He took me to my cubicle and sat me there.

"Make sure not to disturb the others working okay!" He spoke and left.

I sat there and watched the others work. I kind of felt left out and mostly useless.

"Hey... you're new here right?! I've never seen you before" the lady beside me said

Okay Jackling chill, this might be your opportunity to make your first office friend. No panicking just act cool and be yourself.

I turned to her and smiled

"Yes that's right... it's my first day here" I said maintaining the smile.

"Is that so?! Welcome then... My name is Britney Godon" she said smiling at me

"It's a pleasure meeting you Britney... I'm Jackling Kyle."

"Nice meeting you too Jackling. So... how is you're first day going?"

"Well.. it's totally different from what I had imagined. Never knew I would meet this ruckus"

"That's because today the CEO is returning after been absent for months."

"I get that but... why are people so stressed up about it?" I asked

"If only you knew who the CEO were, trust me you too would be panicking by now. That man is a real monster and a dictator. If he finds anything in disorder, he could fire the whole department" she said with a hint of apprehension in her voice.

I chuckled to that.

"Don't you think you're exaggerating a little bit?... I don't think there's any man who could fire a whole department just for a mistake"

"I'm telling you. That man is capable. If I were you I would fear him too" she said in a serious tone.

"That ain't happening! I do not fear mortals. I fear only God"

"That's what you say now, but you would definitely change your mind if you met with him" she insisted.

I was about debating further when Mr Houston approached me once more.

"Jackling my dear, I have some work for you" he stated.

Hah! Finally!

"Yes sir... what I'm I to do?" I said trying to hide my enthusiasm.

"I want you to take this to the Ceo's office" he said stretching forth his hand which held a cup of coffee.

"Huh?" I looked at him perplexed.

"It's no big deal. Just take this to him and say it's from me. Hurry up he's waiting"

It really looked fishy. What if he added something poisonous in this coffee? If the CEO drinks it and dies, would that make me an accomplice?

No! We're not in some kind of film or something.. I'm just over thinking it.

I grabbed the coffee from his hands hoping I wasn't making a mistake.

"Sure thing sir... which floor please?"

"The last floor " he uttered.

Immediately, I left for the lift with the coffee in my hand.

I'm sure it's nothing fishy... if it was then the Holy Spirit would have alarmed me by now.

Some few minutes later I was out of the lift.

I moved along a corridor and noticed that on this floor there were only two offices. The first one on which was written PA on a silver plate and the next one with CEO written in bold on a golden plate.

I gulped. Just the door alone was already imposing. I mustered up some courage before knocking on the door.

After getting a faint come in from the other end, I proceeded into getting in.

As soon as I entered I was in awe before the beauty of his office.

It was big and spacious .. much more than my apartment. The walls were painted light grey but it didn't make the office dark, not with that huge glass window behind his desk which provided it with more than sufficient day light. There was a beautiful glass table placed before a large black couch at one corner of the office. And as I kept on glancing at the office, I couldn't help but notice the huge library he had on the other corner of his office.

However, I was instantly taken out of my stuperfaction for his office when I heard him clearing his throat. He must have ran out of patience probably because ever since I entered his office I hadn't said a word.

Sitted on his big dominant dark chair he was focused reading a document in his hands.

"Sir, I was asked by Mr Houston to give you this" I said as I headed towards his desk with the coffee in my hands.

He snapped his head up and stared at me in shock.

"You!" He gasped.

Once I met with his gaze, I was completely dumbfounded!

I stumbled and fell to the ground spilling out all the coffee on him.

"Shit! Can't you watch what you're doing?!" He snapped jerking out of his chair.

"I.. I.. I didn't.." I stuttered in confusion

"You what?! Now you've turned into a stammerer?" He scoffed

"No.. I-"

"What the hell are you doing here?" He asked greeting his teeth.

"I was asked to give you this cup of tea but I mistakenly spilled it... I'm so-" I tried explaining but he interjected

"Get out! Fuck out...Now!" He yelled at me causing me to cringe internally.

I got up and hastily ran out of his office. This was just unbelievable! It was him... it's Mr Jerk!

The flash back of what just happened in his office kept on playing in my head and as I was about entering into the lift someone was getting out of it causing a slight collision.

"Pretty!" The person called out in excitement.

Hold on... I recognise this voice. I looked up to the person standing before me and I was met with those familiar blue eyes

"Mr good looking!" I gasped.

He started chuckling. He's laughter echoed all through the silent corridor. Some how it help me calm down a little.

"Mr good looking?!... that's a nice nickname but I would prefer you call me by my name. Skyler Johnson... but please call me Sky. I don't think I had the opportunity to grab yours the last time" he raised his eyebrows at me.

"So sorry.. last time I had to leave for an emergency. And by the way my name is Jackling Kyle" I said giving him a gentle smile.

"Dony worry about last time.. I'm just glad we met again. So tell me Jackling, why were you so stressed out earlier? I mean when we bumped into each other?" He inquired furrowing his eyebrows.

"I.. I met with Mr Jerk and he happens to be the CEO. I spilled the coffee and I'm sure he will fire me" I blabbered in confusion.

"Calm down Jackling. I'm not understanding what you're talking about. Take a deep breath and take it over again. Okay?" He said placing his hands on my shoulders

Normally I would have brushed out the hands of any man who did that but strangely I didn't feel uncomfortable.

I did as he asked and took it over again

"Mr Jerk is a man with whom I querrelled the day of the interview. The head of my department asked me to take coffee to the Ceo's office and I did so. But when I reached there i realised that it was Mr Jerk the Ceo. Out of huge shock I stumbled and spilled out all the coffee on him. At first he was angry to see me there but he got even madder after I spilled the coffee. I'm so dead Sky!" I placed my hand on my forehead and bit my lips.

"Relax! Nothing will happen to you. Just go back to your department and stay as far as possible from the Ceo. I promise you won't get fired" he assured.

At that instant I didn't have the energy neither was I in the mood to debate further. So I just did as he said.

After exchanging our contacts and bidding ourselves good byes, I returned to my department and explained everything to Mr Houston. He was furious at me, scared and also became stressed. I could sense the gravity of what I had done just by the way he bit his finger nails in anxiety.

"That's it! He will fire you and not only you but the whole department as well" he stated dramatically.

Some few minutes later the department ran silent. No one uttered a single word nor made the slightest movement. We were all focused on the man with an imposing dark aura who had just stepped into our department.

He made long strides in my direction with Mr good looking.. I mean Skyler trailing behind him. They both stopped right in front of my cubicle. I stood up waiting for him to speak and that's when he looked into my eyes and uttered coldly

"Pack all your things you are leaving"

I was about protesting or rather begging when he continued

"As from this day onward you no longer work in this department. Henceforth, you work in this enterprise as my PA.... I give you 15mins to report to my office" he stated sternly.

My eyes widened in shock. Immediately after that, he turned on his heels and left in the same dominant way he came.

I slumped back down into my sit trying to process all what was happening to me. In one day, I get to meet again with Mr Jerk and Mr good looking. I spill coffee on Mr Jerk who happens to be the CEO of Walker Co and I just lost my job of CS agent to become a PA... His PA!

This was too much information for me to take in. I rested my head on the table and ask for the Holy Spirit to intervain.

I listened to this comforting words from Him and relaxed.

"Jackling.. Hey Jackling!" I heard Britney call me, so I sat up.

"Yes, what's it?"

"I'm so sorry for you" I could feel she was genuine.

"Don't worry I'm fine" I smiled

I really was cause I trust God and the plans he has for me. I will remain still in this storm.

"Okay but... if I were you I would hurry to his office now. Remember he's waiting for you."

"Your right... let me get going" I said standing up.

"Good luck!" She stated

"Thanks" I left.

I had nothing to pack since I didn't even have time to install myself in the cubicle.

.....

Here I was, standing in his office with him seated in his chair while Skyler sat on the couch.

I watched Sky give me a sympathic smile and I couldn't help but wonder what he was doing here? And why was he with the Ceo earlier? Does he work here and if yes at what post?

I shoved all those my questioning thoughts and I decided to keep them for later. I then turned all my attention to the man whom all this while had been watching me in silence.

"Sir, you asked me to report to your office" I spoke this time around without stuttering.

Earlier I just got overwhelmed by all what was happening that's why I acted so lame. But this time around it's not happening. I'm back to the bold and fearless Jackling.

"What's your name?" He asked.

He seemed to have calmed down. Thank God!

I also noticed he had changed his shirt. He was still dressed in his black tuxedo suit but he no longer wore the white shirt I stained earlier with coffee.

"Jackling Kyle sir"

"Well miss Kyle as I said earlier, you now work here as my new PA." He spoke blatantly.

"But sir, I was employed in this enterprise as a CS agent not to work as your PA. I have no qualifications for this job. I refuse to be your PA sir" I voiced out my mind.

"Bold! Aren't we?" He smirked.

"Miss Kyle, I'm the Ceo of this enterprise, I own it. I decide who gets employed and at what post. It's either you work here as my PA or you don't work here at all!" He narrowed his eyes at me and uttered coldly in a low tone.

I bit my lips in frustration. What do I do now? Should I swallow my pride and accept or should I deny and not let this man step on me?

I was in the middle of my thoughts when I felt someone place their hand on my shoulder. I looked up to see Sky giving me a reassuring smile.

"Just accept his offer Jackling... it's always better than nothing right?!"

His right! I prayed a lot to get a job. I won't loose one because of pride.

I took in a deep breath and faced the CEO

"Fine Mr Ceo. I accept!"

"Wise choice miss Kyle!" He uttered giving me a sly smile

"Skyler the contract" he gestured his hands towards Skyler.

"Right here" Skyler said and placed the contract on the desk.

Mr Jerk signed and offered me the pen maintaining his sly smile as if daring me. I grabbed the pen from his hands and signed the contract without hesitation.

Little did I know I was signing a pact with the devil!
