CHAPTER 95
CHARLES SLOWLY WALKED through the library in the basement of the Padua Cathedral. After a thorough search, his eyes came across the dusty shelf made up of books that were so old, they had been arranged in an almost hidden and forgotten place at the back of the library.
His agile hands brushed away a few titles covered by the dust accumulated by decades of indifference. A spiritual joy blossomed on his face when he found what he was looking for, a book whose spine, eaten away by time, barely allowed him to read the title: Treatise on Demonology — The Kingdom of Hell.
One of the things he had learned throughout his ministry as an exorcist was the immense wit of demons and the ease with which they lied. A terrible revelation had been made to him, something never dreamed of by a human mind, a secret kept hidden in the depths of hell, and which, according to that miserable being, would be close to happening.
Charles knew that if that were true, he would have to warn the Church, or rather, he would have to warn the Pope alone. If that knowledge he held was true as he was now on the verge of proving it, it would be dangerous for someone else to become aware of it. Charles didn't know how far the enemies could be infiltrated.
Charles began flipping through the blackened pages of the book, his attention focused on the headings that began each chapter.
The Infernal Regions, The Kingdom of Lucifer, The Legions of Evil, Eternal Chains, The Reign of Hatred...
Here it is! The fifth chapter, the kingdom of hate!
That terrifying revelation would now be put to the test — he thought — God willing that all that was just a lie.
