INVASION PT3

Erons pov

'so, what exactly are you doing'

Langris looked up at me his usual smile no where to be seen before he replied with

"nothing much just defending this place I guess"

as soon as I realised annoyance quickly spread around my face

'you're going to defend against us yourself'

"is that so weird?"

he asked casually, I spread my senses once more in order to confirm, there truly was no one here

'you evacuated all the citizens and you probably expected me to attack so you sent your other Dons along with their fighters to take my city, is that right?'

"bingo"

the sound of slow clapping spread out as I slapped my hands together, a tentative smile on my face

'wow, I'm impressed, I truly did not expect the incarnation of justice to play so dirty have your ideals finally crumbled'

he looked back at me and for a brief moment I thought I saw hesitation before it was washed away as he said

"no just changed a bit, I still believe in following the code, our code the code you abandoned and according to that code all traitors must be executed"

'your code will kill you langris, you've never once beaten me and while their not much I still have back up and once I kill you I'll kill the rest, Raine, that poisonous turd and that dumb blue haired nimrod, why as we speak Jurad must have already killed that guy you had high hopes for'

he looked at me, a small smile on his lips,

"there are a lot of possible outcomes to the fight we're about to have but as for those two, it will either end with Jurad betraying you or him dying by Kalen's hands"

'what do you mean?'

he looked at me his eyes twinkling

"Kalen is his Prince"

I stepped back in shock before quickly regaining my composure before speaking

'and so what'

Langris's eyes didn't lose their luster as he spoke

"so it means we finally have a chance, a chance to fight back to seek victory, after 200 years there's finally someone who can wield it, the ultimate weapon, we can finally kill him"

I looked at him for a moment before I threw my head back and laughed

'HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA'

a long and hearthy laugh one filled with ridicule, as if mocking the profound delusions of a child

'I've always believed you be a realist, possessing both optimism and pessimism no greater than the other, a perfectly balanced individual who managed to encapsulate both helplessness and power in no small order, you were always a man who never let any side of himself gain full advantage over the other and yet. Like all men you possesed a madness beneath the surface, carefully hidden but greater than that of most'

"get to the point"

he said with a hint of boredom in his words

'Langris, that madness has finally over taken you, it wasn't 200 years ago the fight against that thing started, it wasn't 400 or 800 either, since the dawn of time mankind no, every species in existence has constantly tried to counteract the belief it holds, that we do not deserve to live, its only within the last 200 that the strongest of us came forth in order to replace the empire and keep the good fight going, but we've simply been defending, he's not even here yet. he hasn't even tried and we're already burnt out. we're already tired. I'm, already tired. Do you really think a 19 year old boy will change anything?'

I asked, an honest question

"I believe he will change everything"

and he replied, not a hint of hesitation, neither in his eyes his voice not even his body language.

I often thought about it, if there was one reason why I preferred Leon to any of my stooges it was because he knew the proper etiquette in front of power better than anybody. Bow, or run, I chose run and I will always believe I made the right choice

'I don't believe you'

I said, he sighed and looked up towards the darkening sky above us before replying with

"I know, but that doesn't matter, I'm not here to convince you, I'm here to execute a traitor"

he said solemly before suddenly perking up and saying

"oh and also to buy for time"

before I could question his words I sensed it, multiple spatial distortions, I looked towards my army and saw under their feet a gigantic magic cirlce, it flared up in an equally massive pillar of light, before even I could rush over to them another magic circle appeared under our feet, I and Langris's, I looked to the blond bastard to see him smirking and waving at me before he said

"you might wanna close your eyes or else you'll vomit"

he was right, I almost did, the feeling of the world shifting around me was nauseating but I held on, and when I opened my eyes we were in a place I knew quite well, a sea blue sky hung above us, not a cloud in sight eternally peaceful eternally beautiful, and beneath it was a field that stretched as far as the eye can see. Stalks of white grass that reached my knee blew lazily in the wind and when they caught the light they gave off a silver glint, to any one else this would have been a peaceful even calming sight. but for me, all it brought me were memories of how my blood had repeatedly stained these stalks after many gruesome duels with my father

'you're a real asshole making this our venue you know that'

I turned around Langris was standing with an expression of absolute calm on his face, unlike me he never really feared our training sessions even though he always lost

"I'm going to kill you, there's no need to consider your sensitivity"

I sighed before saying

'indeed. Tell me, how many people did you have waiting to cast the spell that transported us and my men'

"2, Luke and Raine, we separated the Don's from the others, Luke will handle your men and Raine will handle the Don's"

I opened my eyes wide in shock

'you intend to have that girl fight two Don's by herself'

even though those tow weren't very strong they could work quite well together and they stood more than a fair chance against someone so inexperienced

"it's what she wanted, I intended for her to simply stall for time but she declared that she'd win so I let her see if that's true"

anger bubbled within me as I spoke

'callous as always I see, even back then you thought more of people for their use rather than who they were'

"you were an exception"

he said with a twinge of sadness, but I replied bitterly

'I didn't need you to, you hypocritical bastard. besides, you brought me here for revenge, revenge against your precious order, revenge against you, that's why you want to kill me'

"I want to kill you because I should, I have too"

I could tell, the boy I had known all those years ago hadn't gone anywhere, he was still here, still pragmatic, still malicious and still willing to tie up all loose ends possible. I had seen the darkness in him all those years ago, even when he tried to hide it from me, i knew, I just didn't think he'd point it at me, with the sharp sound of steel I pulled my blade from its sheathe, a Kitana, a curved blade of an icy blue that was almost transparent swinging it a few times I tested its parameters, they were the same as always, perfect, when I left this city I had an iron sword at my side I didn't really think I'd make it in life i just took the cheapest thing I could so as to owe that man as little as possible, but it didn't take long for me to switch it out for this, Blue Streak because that was all spectators saw when I swung it, a blade enchanted to cut through air like it wasn't even there, I'd need all the speed I could against this bastard, I snapped my fingers and my battle clothes disappeared leaving only a pair of cotton trousers and only the protection I could conjure up with mana

'let's play by our usual rules'

he snapped his fingers fingers and his robes disappeared as well before pulling out his long sword Light Bringer, our bodies were as different as possible, we both possesed a fair amount of muscles but I was leaner and taller while his were more robust but if there was one feature, one connection that no amount of time could wash away it was the multitude of scar's all over our bodies, some we gave each other, some we got from monsters and some at the product of our heavy handed father's, we simultaneously released our arcanums and I placed my blade in front of me before opening my mouth to say

'come'
