Captain's Orders

The sun starts to shine down on the port town of Sakana, a town near the southern border of Klyfland and sitting against the Seam River. After a long and tiring night, Kidd wakes up in a strangers house, naked and nestled against a beautiful pale skinned woman with long, silky, blonde, hair. His tan skin makes her look almost as if she's glowing. Looking at her, he remembers the night they shared, making sure to keep a mental pictures of the best moments.

Sneaking out of the bed he puts on his clothes and slips out of the room, leaving the house and entering the town which is starting to fill with people as the morning goes on.

"It's about time," A man says as he closes the front door. Kidd turns to see on of his crew members.

"Oh hey Igor," Kidd replies as he runs his hands through his light-dirt colored hair, trying to make it look a bit more tidy, "What's up?" The two start walking through the streets pass crowds of people.

"What's up? You're suppose to be helping us get fish for the store owner so, we, can eat something other than fucking fish,"

"Alright, alright, calm down."

"The others are all waiting for you at the docks,"

"Let's get going than,"

Walking past the local pub that's also the town's inn a woman walking inside catches Kidd's eye. He glances at Igor before trying to sneak off.

"Captain!" Igor exclaims, stopping Kidd in his tracks.

"Okay, okay, you got me," Kidd replies as he rejoins the man and continues heading for the docks.

"You're such a dog," He says in annoyance, "I can't tell if you stay fit because of your job or because of your, hobby,"

"I mean, sometimes it feels like I'm really working out my body when-"

"I, don't, want to know,"

Making their way to the docks, a large boat sits there, several pirates moving around on it, cleaning, checking equipment, and taking inventory.

"Your harpoon is ready to go captain," One of them says as they walk up to them, "It's waiting for you in the fishing boat," They point to a much smaller boat, anchored further down the dock.

"Thank you, go help the others on the main vessel,"

"Ai, ai, capt'n" The man hurries back onto the ship as Kidd and Igor head to the boat at the far end.

Leaving the dock Kidd and Igor row out into the large river, it's gentle stream helping them as much as it can. The clear water reflects the sunlight, showing all the ripples that intertwine making a diamond-shaped pattern. The river below them looks almost like glass, the bottom nearly visible, fish swimming around in the crystal clear water. Kidd dips a hand into the water, feeling it's cool touch, cold, but not too cold.

He takes his hand out, shaking the water off and looking around as they distance themselves from the town.

"There," Kidd says as he nods toward an area where the river is shallow, around three feet deep from the looks of it. They dock the boat on the nearby sand before the two of them walk into the water, harpoon and net at the ready. They stand at the edge of the shallow spot, just out of reach of the current. Kidd holds up his harpoon in one hand, ready to thrust it at the first thing he sees moving past him.

A streak of silver and blue.

"Hyah!" With a forceful lunge, his harpoon pierces the water's surface in seconds, stabbing through a large green fish. He brings the harpoon up, the fish wiggling about on the end of it.

"It seems all the tench in this river are large healthy ones," Kidd says as he takes it off and chucks it into Igor's net. He catches a couple more fish with ease, but as another one swims by he gets distracted, seeing the blurry outline of someone. He barely misses, the fish swiftly swimming away as it quickly disappears downstream.

Keeping his spear up, Kidd turns around, looking at the surrounding area, no one seems to be their but him and Igor.

"Everything alright captain?" Igor asks as he looks in the direction Kidd's looking. They see movement behind a tree that sits at the sand's edge. A man in a black and purple shirt walks out from behind the tree onto the sand, his sandals leaving rectangular foot prints in the sand. Short blond hair is held up from a thin silver headband.

"Are you the famed captain Kidd I've heard so much about?" The man asks as he approaches the water, stopping before it can get his feet wet.

"Yes, I am," Kidd slowly lowers his harpoon, something about the person seeming off.

"Ah, good. I've been looking for you ever since I got word that you were spotted in Klyfland's territory. I mean, it's rather odd that someone from Qanas would be in another kingdom, even more so when there was also word that you helped someone from Klyfland,"

Kidd and Igor are a bit surprised. They've never seen this man before, not in Qanas or Klyfland, or anywhere else they've been. How could this man possibly know all that?

"What do you want?" Kidd asks with slight aggression, not bothering to act friendly.

"I want the girl you helped,"

"Girl? I help lots of girls," He snickers. The man gives him an annoyed look.

"A, young, girl, whose with a ninja, a royal, ninja," He responds, slight annoyance in his tone, "I believe her name was Berryla. You helped her and her friend cross the river about a week and a half ago,"

Kidd just stares at the man, responding only with silence.

Who the fuck is this guy?

"Never heard of her. Now if you'll excuse me I ned to get back to fishing, I have men I need to feed,"

"Wait. I know she must have given you quite a lot of coin," He waves one hand over the other, a small bag full of gold coins appearing out of thin air, "But I'm sure I can pay you more than double," The sparkle of the gold catches Igor's eye. Kidd glances at the gold.

That alone is a lot more than what she payed me. But...this man...no doubt he's a mage, a rather fiendish looking one. Whatever his reason is for wanting her, it can't be a good one.

As Kidd examines the man, seeing through his already untrustworthy smile, he realizes that he is actually able to see through the smile, the trees behind him just barely visible.

"Sorry pal, but I don't know who you're talking about," Kidd replies to the man's annoyance.

"Well than I'm sure your friend here would-"

"Enough!" Kidd yells as he throws his harpoon at the man. It passes through them, causing the illusion to fade away as it keeps going, landing into the trunk of a tree.

"What'd you do that for?!" Igor exclaims as Kidd heads out of the water to retrieve his harpoon, "We could have gotten a months worth of gold from him!"

"You sound like my father," Kidd replies as he pulls his harpoon out from the tree, "There's more to being a pirate than just gold,"

"Like women?"

"Don't forget who you're talking to," Kidd says threateningly, "I could have turned you in for a measly few coins could I not have? I'm the reason you're not rotting in jail right now," He grabs the net from Igor, "Take the boat back to town, I can do the rest myself and walk back,"

Igor just glares at him, unable to think of a response.

"...Ai, ai...Captain," Igor says mockingly as he pushes the boat into the water and starts rowing back to town.
