Sudden Intruders

Rebecca took a drink of water. She had just finished doing some exercises.

She checked the time, within two hours some government officials were supposed to pick her up and deliver her to the safe house.

As soon as she and her friends were safe, she could dedicate herself to ruining their operations in-game completely.

A thought struck her, James needed to be safe too. How come she didn't think of that-

Crssh-!

Several windows shattered, Rebecca threw aside the water and remained on high alert.

Several footsteps moved towards her, their pace meant they were in a hurry. A figure entered through a hallway and spotted her.

Revecca's eyes widened as she saw a black metallic object being pointed towards her. This wasn't the knockout dart guns they usually used. It was a full fledged gunpowder one!

They would use guns in broad daylight?! Were they that desperate?!

Rebecca's instincts took over, she immediately dived to the side.

A gunshot rang and a bullet whizzed past. Rebecca remained unharmed, but her heart was racing.

She knocked over a table and ducked under cover.

It was a common misconception that a table could protect you from bullets. In fact the table would provide very little resistance to even small caliber weapons. However Revecca's goal wasn't defense, rather the small hesitation the wielder would have before firing. Due to them being unable to see her position.

The wielder did, in fact, hesitate. Rebecca picked up a small object from the ground, a decorative item for the table, and threw it towards the wielder.

They held up their arms in defense and Rebecca bolted, not caring for the potential injuries she jumped through a window.

It was worth mentioning she was on a second story apartment building. She had rented a large one for potential escapes, just like this.

The broken glass sliced through parts of her body. The most notable wound was on her arm, a deep gash forming. She winced but it didn't feel too bad.

She forcefully rotated her body through the air and landed on her feet. Bending her knees as she landed she rolled forward.

The landing was sloppy and the roll was amateurish, but it kept her from breaking any bones.

She ran forward immediately, tearing off a piece of her shirt and wrapping it around the wound. Tying it tight she ran around a corner, only to be greeted by two men. One was holding a gun and pointed it towards her.

Rebecca attempted to stop, but her momentum couldn't stop right away. For a moment she was still before she began moving back.

A gunshot rang and Rebecca cried out in pain.

The bullet pierced her thigh, she limped behind cover.

She couldn't run like this, fear began to eat away at her heart.

She steeled her nerves, pulling out a disposable phone she dialed her mother's number. The moment it began to ring she tossed it over by a pile of nearby trash. The moment the phone landed the men turned the corner. Rebecca immediately held her hands up, she needed to be alive.

Some more men approached from different entrances and surrounded her. Someone pulled out a radio, "Boss, she's surrendering."

Someone spoke from behind the group, "I hear ya. Move along!"

Some moved and a man with a stubble and leather jacket walked forward. With mess brown hair with eyes to match, they looked like an unkempt middle aged man.

He opened his arms in a wide gesture, "You should rest, that wound on your leg seems painful. It's best to rest your limbs right?"

Rebecca did as she was told.

The man nodded, "Good good, now our mission was to kill you. But I think I might get a promotion if I bring you alive! What do you think?"

Rebecca remained silent. The man walked forward and grabbed her by the chin moving his face close to hers he continued, "I think I just might. You were only able to escape because we wanted you alive. If not for my generosity you would have died here."

He let go and patted her cheek, "Be thankful, yeah? After all maybe your little friends might be alive too."

The man stood up and reached into his jacket. He pulled out a pen-like object. Popping a cap off he stabbed the pen into Rebecca's arm.

Immediately she felt drowsiness overtake her and her vision went black.

Wham-!

Charles slammed the table, "They've grown arrogant! Do they take the government for fools?!"

They had just received word that the four they were supposed to protect were just captured.

Jessica tapped the table rhythmically with her fingers, "No, they grew desperate. They actually used ballistic weaponry. This was a last ditch effort. But why? Why against some random kids who messed with them in a video game?"

"I don't care why! If they hurt a single part of my daughter I will kill them all!"

"We are finding their location right now. They knew we were going to keep them in protective custody. So they most likely have a spy."

"After my daughter! Wait- James! Is James okay?!"

"We don't know where James is. He went silent."

Charles sunk in his chair, for a moment it seemed like he was a frail man full of worries. But this passed in the blink of an eye.

A sigh passed through his lips, "Ask them to send someone else to monitor that house."

"I already sent someone, you know the moment we get a lead it will be over."

"I know."

"Get them up!"

Wrock shouted quickly, an alarm suddenly blared through the house and set him alert. He immediately noticed something was off.

Kan'na rushed to get the others out of the game. Wrock held his fists up, his senses on overdrive.

Whilst Kan'na opened the door to Yielya's room. She saw a masked man point a gun at her head.

The man suddenly moved the gun and pointed it towards Yielya, "You move and I fire."

Kan'na froze, she couldn't do anything here. There was no mana, no way for her to save Yielya!

The intruders' plan was executed near perfectly. Akiol, Yielya, and Tilia were all in game. Using this opportunity they broke in and used the drug on them to make sure they didn't awake and cause any issues.

The only difference was Akiol, the pod had logged him out in an emergency and warned him. So Akiol knew what he was getting in to.

The moment the pod opened enough Akiol slipped out and kicked a weapon out of the intruder's hand. With another swift motion he kicked the jaw of the intruder and knocked them unconscious.

He rushed into the living room. Only to see a sight that filled him with dread.

His party was captured. Wrock couldn't defend due to them holding the others hostage. Since they were using real ballistic weapons he had no choice.

An intruder suddenly held a hand to their ear. Nodded several times, and ordered, "Knock them all out. We are to bring them to base."

Kan'na and Wrock were jabbed with a strange object and fell unconscious.

One of the men walked up to Akiol cautiously. Akiol simply raised his hands, "I understand, do what you must. I will not fight back."

The man still approached carefully. Once Akiol had fallen unconscious only then did they relax.

"All right let's wrap it up. Police ETA in five minutes."

"Everything has been completed successfully. We even captured Opportunity and her group."

A man sat on a luxurious chair. Their face somehow being ominously covered by a shadow. They spoke, their voice held a tone to it. One that would make you fall into a sense of false security. One that would make you believe everything they said, "Very good. Send them to the interrogation room. It's about time a lesson is taught."

A woman nodded, she had given the report earlier. Curiosity gnawed at her, "Sir. . . if I may ask?"

"Go on."

"Why did you decide to take action like this?"

"Why? Some mere kids think my organization is something they can toy with. Moreover a powerful group had reached out. Now go, notify me when they have finally arrived."

"Yes sir."

The woman left and silence filled the barely lit room. The man's chin rested on his fist. He had grown tired of the game of cat and mouse. His organization was not to be fooled with.

Yet it seemed this same game had helped with the success of their plan. Leaving the targets believing they were some random people making a living through impure means.

Yet despite this success the man did not show joy at all. Who would show joy upon squashing an insignificant problem? It was akin to killing an intruding ant.

The man's other hand moved. His fingers tapping rhythmically against the armrest. He murmured under his breath, "Horizon's Origins. . . what is it you want?"
