“Versus two badass witches, a pretty powerful elf, even if he was running scared.” Edan winked at Braden.
“I was not,” Braden protested. “I was, yeah, staying away from my lady Delilah so she wouldn’t catch Vicario’s eye and become a pawn.”
Delilah rolled her eyes. “That’s his story and he’s sticking to it.”
“Not to mention,” Maeve said, “one fearless vampire hunter, aka dhampir, and a half-elf with more nerve than common sense at times.”
“If you mean me jumping out of the tree, that wasn’t nerve,” Gideon replied with a brief smile. “I was trying to keep them from killing Braden. It’s what brothers do.”
“Whatever you want to call it, it was damned brave for someone with no fighting experience,” Braden said. “I’m glad you were with us, Gid. Things could have turned out very differently otherwise.”
“He’s turning a lovely shade of red,” Edan said with a grin.
“I’m not…am I?” Gideon knew he was because his face felt warm.
