The Great Magic Era

In the world of Aureum there are 3 main continents, the vast Verdant, the ancient Antana and the land of gods, Midrass. Since the fall of the ancient elven empire of Lefheim 5000 years ago, the once unified continent of Verdant was now fractured in many nations, all in constant war with one another, where only the strong can carve it's own place amongst the victors, leaving the weak to be forgoten, only to be found as footnotes in the books of history. "Chronicles Of The Broken Sword - Gladius Relicta 2534 h.c.".

Omar III

August 16th, its been a week since Omar came to Dragon Pass, he was assigned by orders of prince Felix to the night shift at the Dragon's head section.

Due to its design and history, the fortress has gained the reputation of being impenetrable, but although it was originally built as a defensive posotion, in the last 100 years, its functions have changed slightly. Now it was known for being an important trade rute, with a trafic of more than 10.000 people every day.

Currently Omar was on the patrol duty, as Dragon Pass only allowed access to travelers and merchants in the day, the nights were mostly used by the troops in the fortress to guard the walls in the case someone tried to smuggle their way in, or to do maintenance of the equipement and cannons.

Before the company Omar was in reached the fortress, Dragon Pass was operating with around 180-200 units among which only 50 of them were elites properly in magic combat and martial arts, and the rest were mostly common soldiers, from what Omar had heard, Prince Felix came to Dragon pass almost 3 months ago and only brought with him 10 royal guards. Taking into account all of that, right now the fortress has close to 400 troops which more than half are elites.

Early in the morning, Omar was coming back from the end of his shift, making his way to the canteen to eat something before going back to his room and get some sleep. While eating his meal, that consisted of a bowl of clear vegetable broth with some pieces of meat and bread, accompanied with some meat buns, Omar was thinking of his home back in the capital.

His complete name was Omar Devaltan, the second youngest sin of the Devaltan Family, an old, middle sized family from the Karg Kingdom, famous for being descendants of a legendary historical figure who once followes the dirst king in his campain before the stablishment of the Kingdom. Though the Devaltan name was a prestigious name among nobles, the actual political power of the family wasn't as great compared to their military might, this fact has instead created a rift betweend the Devaltan's and the other noble factions becoming somewhat isolated, still they're still aknowledged as the best when it comes to nurturing their own descendants, producing splendid individuals inneach generation.

As the 2nd in the line of heritage, and being the Devaltan family one who followed the ancient traditions of the nobles, Omar knew that he had no opportunity to inherit the position of family head from his father, and refusing to become a lackey of his older brother for the rest of his life, serving as a knight, he decided to enlist in the army when the war started, by fighting in battle he could obtain merits that could be exchanged for a noble tittle of his own.

Being on his last year on the academy, Omar simply refused to rerurn to his home to live under the shadow of somebody else, therefore to him this war was like a heaven sent opportunity, his last chance before lossing his freedom, but who would've thought he'll be sent to the rear, far from the frontlines.

After finishing his food, Omar made hus way to the living quarters, reaching the second floor, he opened his room which he shared with other elite soldier called Claus, different from him, Claus was a permanent resident of the fortress, coming from a small commoner's family in Augusta. The impression of Claus that he got was that of a really down to earth man, sometimes making funny comments and very lively, he didn't particulary disliked him, as in his opinion its too soon to be making any judgements, for the rest he barely interacted with him even though both shared the same room, as their shift were also different.

Before going to sleep, he carefully took off his armor and uniform, and then he took a shower in bathroom. He slept until a little past noon, waking up, he put on his uniform and once again headed to the canteen, then going to the main square, Omar simply started his routine of training, doing a set of moves in repetition and then moving into the next.

Every move he made stirred the air surrounding him, sometimes giving off a fierce vibe, while others times being calm and colected. The hue of his skin and eyes also changed in function if the moves he was doing, ranging from a dark grey to a bright white.

Once he was done with his excercises by the end of the afternoon, Omar once again headed for the canteen, reunite with Gabriel and Julio killing some time by doing small talk and headed to his room once again to take a shower before his shift officially starts. This routine continued for at least one more month.

While the war against the Sorh Dynasty continued, life in the fortress was a constant cicle, with no changes, and though many found this cicle to be boring, none of the troops, despite their personal bias on the situation, dared to slack off during their duty, taking the order of their superiors very seriously.

In the last month, Omar also interacted a lot with Gabriel and Julio in the small opportunities they got betweend shifts, but above all, omar got to know a get acquaintanced with many of the troops during his time in the fortress, building a sense of camaraderie and trust, the same applied to his roommate Claus, he know considered him as a friend, and they talked about all kinds of different things, like their dreams, funny memories, what they hated and more. Omar started to belive it wasn't so bad he had been sent here, not even in the academy had he know so many people he could really trust and call his driend from the bottom of his heart.

(Maybe is not so bad, theres still plenty of time...) Was what omar thought.

In the Dragon's tail section, on what originally was the Baron's study, Prince Felix have converted it into his personal office, the young prince was reading this last week report by Gauss when one of his guards entered the room with a letter on his right hand.

Walking up to the middle of the room, the guard, wearing a dark red and silver patterned armor, bowed to the prince first before giving him the letter.

"His highness, message from the capital" said the guard before making his way out and leaving the prince office.

Felix took the letter and opened it, reading hus contents for a couple of minutes before placing it over his desk and keeping silent.

*Sigh* as he exhaled it seemed that all the strenght leaved the young prince, as his face furrowed into a frown.

"What does the letter says, his highness?" Inquired Gauss who was right besides Felix, his voice carried a hint of worry.

Shaking his head and straightening his back, Prince Felix took the letter and stood up, then he passed the letter to Gauss and said as the later readed it:

"Seems like the war is finally coming to an end" replied Felix in a somber tone.
