"I said talk!" The guard while jabbing his spear threateningly in the direction of Luke, the other guards having now began to move around, trying to slowly enclose and trap Luke between them all. Luke could see all of this, and yet he did not move, nor did he talk. He was just frozen, and standing here his eyes glued to the glistening metal tip of the spear that was pointing at him.
Why was this happening to him? This was not how it was meant to go! Why were they being so aggressive? They were meant to let him inside and support him, not try to kill him! Yes, that is what they wanted to do! They wanted to kill him!
Shivering slightly, he took a single step back while his eyes were still focused on the gleaming spear. The furious yelling of the guard could not reach his ears, while he was like this.
The guard seemingly having noticed this seemed to calm down a little as he made his way closer and closer to the still Luke, turning the spear around, he gently prodded Luke with its hard wooden butt.
This finally to the guards' relief pushed some sense back into Luke, however that was still mixed with fear and horror of the spear and it puncturing him.
"I do not have anything please! I am poor! I do not know where I am! I just woke up here! Please! Help me! I have not done anything! I could not harm anyone! Please!"
Luke's terrified outcry startled the previously furious guard, who hearing all of the words as they tumbled out of Luke's mouth, found himself feeling guilty at the way he had treated the man, but they again who could blame him. This was not one of the frontier cities or towns, it was the entrance to what could be the safest region of the south. Seeing someone arrive in armour was cause for alarm.
"What is your name?" The guard asked slowly, as he looked at the still terrified face of Luke.
Luke however as he went to speak, found himself unable to say his name. It was as if he had forgotten how to speak at that moment as his mouth just opened and closed without saying a word.
Trying a couple times more, his fear and shock began to fade away as he slowly got more and more angry, this was only further amplified by the looks that the guard in front of him, started to give him.
The pity filled looks as well as condescending eyes made it feel like he was being looked down on for not being able to say his name. The man must think he had forgotten or something like that. Sure he had seen some horrifying scenes since he had arrived here, but pity for not being able to say his own name was not something, and would never be something, that he desired ever.
Then like a whisper the voice of the system floated through his mind. "Your name is not your true name, this is a secret no one can ever know, your body's name is your name. It is your only name."
Then the whispering voice of the system faded away, Luke did not know why it had said that, and that too as a whisper when until now it only had ever caused him pain as it spoke. But ignoring this minor point, he began to recall what he had first read, when the system had appeared to him with the section on the body's name. That name was, "Dharen. My name is Dharen."
Hearing his name, the guard looked at him again, straight into his eyes, noticing their colour, he nodded his head in realisation. The reason for the nod, though, would not be known to Luke…no to Dharen for a little while longer, let alone why he had focused on his eyes. It was not as if they had changed, right?
"Well Dharen, follow me I have some more questions for you, but this can be done inside. Oh, and welcome to River Town." The guard leader soon turned around and walked through the gateway, only to have Dharen follow him into a building that stood next to the gateway, though only getting a brief glance of the town, Dharen could tell that it was thriving and vibrant or so it appeared to be.
Inside of the stone building that he had been taken into, the guard leant his spear down against the wall and then sat down behind a desk, indicating for Dharen to take the seat that was in front of him.
"Well I just need some information from you, to issue you a permit so that you can be here, within the town."
Dharen just nodded his head at that, reminding him of how Visa's would work when you went to visit a different country back on Earth.
"So, I know your name already…" Talking to himself he began to scribble down onto a piece of paper that sat in front of himself. "Do you know where you are from? Or at least how old are you?" The guard looked up as he asked the question.
Dharen sat there for a moment as he thought about what he could say, going from what had happened for when he tried to say his actual name he doubted that he would be able to say where it was that he was actually from, and that to he never knew the name of the place this body had been from, just that it was a small fragment which had been seemingly destroyed now.
"Well, my home is gone now. It was lost, as we were invaded. My age…I am not overly sure but I guess that I should be in my early twenties by now." Dharen spoke with a little uncertainty, hoping that nothing would happen and that he would be able to say everything without something coming up and blocking his voice once more.
The guard just nodded and scribbled some more words down onto his paper. Then looking up once more, he asked. "Why did you come here then? Do you seek to settle in the town or did you come to go to the academy and enrol there?"
Hearing the question Dharen did not know how to answer, how could he answer that after all? He was simply following the arrow that had been pointing in this direction, thinking of which, Dharen glanced up and saw that it was still pointing and unchanging.
Seeing his confusion, the guard just sighed and scribbled some more words down.
"I have no more questions for you Dharen, you may stay here but if you cause any trouble you will be removed from the town, or you will face execution for the troubles you cause. Also, be careful, the people do not like your own kind too much, but they won't say much, unless you cause them to."
The guard then shooed Dharen out of the building, handing him some papers as he did. Then closed the door, leaving Dharen alone looking into River Town unsure of what he should be doing next.
