Chapter 79: Alex's Countermeasures

The Mana around Alex morphed and ejected itself into small balls and shot off. 

Mana Bolts shot out and into hundreds of directions. Each of them would create a barrier around human settlements nearby to stop the spread of corruption for a time.

Alex doubted that the Wayne Kingdom was prepared to handle something of this caliber. So the cities would crumble very soon, villages too if there were any left. The revolting beasts had killed their owners and massacred most villages already.

Also, the homunculi should already be preparing the Mana and Ki Awakening Stones would help those with the talent to awaken Mana and Ki get access to their respective energy. 

But the Mana Awakening Potion would help anyone, even those without talent awaken their Mana. Alex needed to do all of this so the corruption doesn't infect most humans and kill them off. In the future, there would be many strong people born from normal farmers and others who couldn't awaken their power. So this infection was not only going to kill humans at the current time, but it would also cut off many future powerful people. Theoretically killing them before they were even born.

He also wanted to make some Ki Awakening Potions, but those would take too long to make. They were more troublesome because Ki wasn't just spiritual energy, but a physical one too. People who could use Ki had the 'roots' all over their bodies that allowed them to use Ki. Depending on the quality of the Ki Root, the faster one's cultivation would go.

With that all done, Alex settled down and started contemplating the future. By now, he was fùcked, humanity was done and over with. The other Kingdoms most likely would fall very soon and the Beast Emperor will be at their doorsteps. If only he had four more years, he could have become way stronger than he was now. Also, many countermeasures would be in place.

Within the decade Alex even was confident that he would be able to break through Legendary Rank with a little bit of luck. Now, all of that was going down the drain.

But he dismissed such thoughts, it was useless to wonder of what could have been. It's better to concentrate on the present and plan for the future.

One he got back on the ground. Alex looked at the green grass in his yard, each blade of grass had been enchanted as a Magical Item and was able to fire spells from it. This place would be the safest for him on the whole continent.

"What's going on?! This… this isn't something the Beast Emperor can do! This gross feeling of evil!" A panicked Ya Xiao came running toward him. The young man's face was filled with worry, and his eyes had a feeling of terror hidden within them.

Ya Fei also arrived after her brother, and she put a hand on her brother's shoulder while looking at her betrothed apologetically. "Ya Xiao! Don't talk to Alex like that. Husband, please forgive my brother, he didn't mean to act like that. He is but a child."

She was worried that he would kill them both or punish them. But Alex shook his head. "No worry. It was such a small thing, no need to apologize."

Alex looked at Ya Xiao and narrowed his eyes. The young man nodded and a silent communication was established between the two. The young prince tilted his head at Ya Fei. Signaling Alex that she needed to get out of here so they can talk freely. 

"I don't know either," Alex answered Ya Xiao's question. But to not raise any suspicion with Ya Fei he smiled at her gently. "Sorry dear wife, can you leave me and brother-in-law to talk about his Alchemy. It's a top-secret thing, so can you make sure no mair or even homunculus comes in the yard.

"Yes, my love." She said courteously before walking off.

Ya Xiao sighed with relief. "Anyway, Alex, this situation has developed beyond our control. Though I can't sense your true power, I believe that even you can't handle the Beast Emperor one on one."

"You are right," Alex admitted. "Currently my power is at mid Legendary Rank. Though I can fight a Peak Legendary Rank if the conditions are right."

"That's good, we can do something with that," said Ya Xiao as he was able to tell how dangerous Alex could be if he was an enemy. "But still, this turn of events should be investigated. Do you have someone of at least Rank 4 that could go out? I would, but with my Rank 3 Warrior strength there is a high probability that I will be corrupted if I got close to whatever was causing the corruption."

Alex smirked, not long ago Ya Xiao had been at Rank 2. But he had already advanced so fast. In the end, the Blood Mage conjured a small orb in his hand.

"That's Ki?!!" Ya Xiao was shocked, Mages couldn't use Ki, no matter what, that was a fact of the world. "Don't tell me-"

"No, I am not using it." Alex shook his head, his smirk widened. "But this is the cleaned soul of a Rank 4 Warrior turned into a pill. If you eat it, you will gain Rank 4 Ki and your strength will experience a huge boost. As long as you stabilize your Ki after the synchronization then everything should be okay. So can you go and investigate this phenomenon now? Only you are competent and trustworthy enough."

Of course, Alex didn't mention that the reason why he trusted Ya Xiao was that his sister would stay back… not as a hostage, but just in case the young man decided to do something strange, Alex could just make an example of the man's sister. No one would like that, because she would die a horrendous death.

Ya Xiao saw this and seemed disgusted at the idea of eating a soul. But he had no choice, the whole human race could fall. So desperate times require desperate measures. Also, he could tell how Alex was low-key warning him to not betray their interests or else there would be consequences. Ya Xiao wasn't a fool, he knew how these things work, and wasn't mad at Alex even one bit. 

In the end, though, there was only one answer to this situation. Ya Xiao took a deep breath and said. "I accept."

Ya Xiao accepted, both the pill and the mission Alex had assigned him. But he looked at the Mage opposite of him and asked one last thing that had been bothering him lately. "Why don't you ever ask about the suspicious things I do? Aren't you curious who I am?"

Alex smirked. "Who would I ask a question for something I already know?"

At that moment, Ya Xiao got chills down his spine, he realized that all along… Alex had been a step ahead. 

"Damn, you are scary, brother-in-law." Said the young prince.

Alex on the other hand only smirked even wider. "Well, it's good that you have nothing to fear from me. Little Emperor."

And with that Ya Xiao got the confirmation that Alex had known all along. Some years ago, the real young prince Ya Xiao got his body possessed by the Human Emperor's soul that was alive 2000 years ago. The man who had previously defeated the Beast Emperor, at least that was what the history books said.

A/N: Ya Xiao is the Human Emperor of the past. His conscience had moved from the time of his death to the future and taken over the body of the talentless Ya Xiao.

P.S: The conversations that seem a little more regal between Alex and Ya Fei, it's because now she is more corgal since Alex is her husband. (No wedding ceremony has been held yet though.)
