Meeting with Drak (Green)

After tossing a small pile of hoodies, which I was using as a temporary pillow, aside, I picked one out and put it on.

"To her, it looked like I got up and left without saying anything," I muttered as I left the house.

'I did.' I spoke to myself after going through the events once more.

The helplessness I felt when I was there seemed to be the only thing to keep me moving at that time.

"Where are you going?" My older brother called out as I passed.

"Out, somewhere, I don't know."

"You have to watch Kate later, I'll be at practice."

I nodded as I kept walking.

Rob's schedule was packed at this point, and while he wasn't a model student, he hadn't broken under all the pressure.

Damned pressure, in his absence, I held it up till my mind grew numb to it.

All while, he looked for any way to feel again. He was even going as far as to knock me down when I took his place.

These emotions seem so distant as I look at my memories unfold in front of me in the yet so ever-present.

If I still had them in this place, my eyes would grow wide while watching my past self. Dark clouds of energy surrounded my past self, my blank expression changed to a frown, and my thoughts went from few and stray to a torrent of many.

This energy was coming from me. How? I didn't know the answer to that, I had assumed I had died and witnessed my life flash before my eyes, but here I was, taking part in creating myself, unsure of how to leave.

For the time being, I stepped back and tried not to reminisce over the memories.

It worked. I looked back at my old self, who took control of the dark cloud as it faded within him and his expression reverted to emptiness.

A still flaming wooden wick went out on a candle before me as a few charred embers landed on the table below. I looked at it for a few seconds before sighing.

My finger ran over the smooth surface that was burning just moments ago. I looked at my finger, slightly tinged a darker shade from the small amount of soot the Omnular wood produced.

I didn't say a word as I moved a second candle beside the other and lit them both.

A look of surprise filled my face as both went out simultaneously. After years of training, this invisible magic had resulted in a thin blade of energy. It was no more significant than the edge of a fingernail that would be clipped off or filed down, but I could somehow sense it. Releasing control over this magical energy just made it disperse; even then, I could still feel it.

The magic's energy barely dropped as I tested its every limit.

A dull ache assaulted me when the energy strayed too far before the power faded.

A simple sharp edge was all I could create with this magic. It could've been a lack of imagination, or maybe it was just that all I had ever practiced was this blade.

I had prepared for this. Eavesdropping, book reading, and just general knowledge had led me to know that wind mage's had the same problems. The absence of a howl or a gust of wind would make this much more difficult, but I would still try.

So I sat down and closed my eyes as I focused on every feeling of my newfound energy.

A familiar sense of emptiness took over me as I felt 'nothing.'

The same energy which had just cut through flame seemed to seep through anything and everything freely; anxiety rose as the empty feeling fell away.

Slowly I opened my eyes, I expected everything to be torn to shreds, but nothing had the slightest scratch on it.

Attempting to test out the power once more, I grabbed an old newspaper. An odd 'flash?' occurred as a part of my vision of the sheet seemed to be stolen from my sight, and a primarily circular hole appeared in place of the previous articles, crossword puzzles, and pictures.

'I could feel that one.' I thought as I looked closer at the paper. There was no singe on it, no ashes or shreds of paper lying around.

I guess I did figure this out pretty early on in life.

"Again," I said as I pulled out more paper.

A flash appeared briefly once more.

'This energy cut through the paper only when I could pinpoint it and will it to do so.'

I looked around for a few moments contemplating what to do.

A hole opened up before me as I willed the energy to cut.

'There is always something present. Unless you're in a vacuum, but even then, there's always a chance for something to pass by.'

I stared into the hole, my brain unable to fully comprehend what I saw. It was like a window into outer space, but every time I moved my head, the stars and specks of colors shifted.

'I knew it it's an entire little subspace or a different dimension.'

The hole shrunk as a net formed and reached out like an invisible arm through the hole.

I fished out a good hand full of debris using my invisible energy.

Even though several moments have passed, everything was exactly where it was left before.

I held a few shreds of the missing portion of the newspaper. Parts looked dulled and illegible, and some details were just as normal as always.

'Wherever this hole goes to, time doesn't seem normal there.'

"That's why I would recommend not climbing through yourself unless you want to be stuck waiting for someone else to get you." A voice called out from within the subspace before continuing. "You could try later when you understand space better."

"WhAt wHo is there?!" I responded as my surprise seemed to take control over my voice.

"Ah pardon my intrusion, my name is Drak." "You look pretty young how old are you?"

"I'm Alex. I'm 10." I answered the voice resulting in a frustrated response.

"No, not your bodies age your minds age."

"Huh, I don't know what you are talking about? My brain and body should be the same age." A tingle spread down my spine before the voice spoke back.

"Oh my, you are not lying. You're not like me." Drak, the voice said through the hole. I detected a hint of sadness.

Drak was forced to live forever and watch the earth age as he stayed. A constant in an ever-changing world.

Quite the opposite of me, I was a blip before I died, pinging in and out of existence.

Will it happen again? Just a while ago, I had dreams, vivid dreams. I dreamt of endless deaths, my deaths. Maybe after this brief flash of life, I will wake up with no memories and start again.
