"What's going on here?"
The sudden interruption pulled me out of my wayward thoughts. I blinked my eyes a couple of times to regain my focus back, and came out of the trance in which he had pulled me in earlier.
I saw him distorting his facial muscles in an unpleasant expression, his playful look from earlier was long gone. It was enough for me to know how displeased he was by the sudden intrusion. And he wasn't the only one who was annoyed by it.
I saw him moving his face towards the end of the trail. The very moment his eyes landed on the person who had the audacity to poke her nose into our business, shock flashed over his face. He looked baffled rather than disturbed. His reaction only piqued my interest and I followed the suite.
As soon as my eyes landed on the familiar face, I couldn't help but respond in the same way as him.
Shocked. That was the only word I could use to describe my feelings as the girl who was standing behind the barricade tape was the person I shared my dorm room with. Dana continued to stare at us with disgust written all over her face. It seemed like she was witnessing the most atrocious thing in the world.
Narrowing my eyes at her figure, I was about to comment on her discourteousness but stopped before anything could escape the barrier of my lips when I noticed her eyes. More specifically, the direction she was staring in.
It wasn't me or the two of us she was staring at. Her eyes were fixed solely on Aden. I turned my head around only to see his face marred by guilt.
'Why is he feeling guilty?' I thought to myself before questioning him for his guilty conscience.
"What's wrong?" I mumbled softly keeping my volume low so that our little conversation stayed between us.
"Nothing!" He answered me briefly as his eyes were still fixed on her. "That's my girlfriend."
The moment his words left his lips, I was able to get the whole picture. Dana was the girl his friend was talking about on the track field the other day. No wonder he kept glaring at me when I was conversing with Aden the other day. He seemed to have some really wrong impressions of me.
But were his impressions of me really wrong? I knew that Aden had a girlfriend, but I never bothered myself about her identity. Why would I look into his personal life? I had nothing to do with what goes on in there. Moreover, I wasn't even interested in him in that sense. I accepted that he was a decent guy, and a good looking one at that. But I could not think of me and him as something more than friends.
"Oh!"
That was the only reply I could manage to give him as my eyes shifted to Dana once again.
"Dana?" I heard him calling her name softly as his hold around me loosened a little before he completely let go of me. It was then only that I was able to understand the whole scenario.
Even though Dana was taking it things the wrong way, she couldn't be blamed for it either. No sane girl would be okay or feel elated after seeing her boyfriend holding on to another girl in an intimate way. Though we were not doing anything inappropriate, anyone's mind would have gone down the same path after seeing the way we were holding each other. And to add more spices to it, he had kissed my cheek.
It was understandable even if she thought that her roommate and boyfriend was having a secret rendezvous behind her back. And I could tell that she must be feeling betrayed. It was a good thing that her accusing orbs were fixed on him instead of me. Or else, I would have been the one feeling guilty about the whole ordeal.
I retracted my arms as I mumbled softly to him. "You are doomed, man."
Was it weird that I had no ounce of pity for him? I was feeling a little bad about Dana and I would definitely apologize to her later on. But when it came to the situation in which Aden was caught, I was not feeling an ounce of guilt despite the fact that both of my hands weren't clean either. The mere thought of what the man might have to go through to win his girlfriend back, was enough to leave a sweet taste in mouth.
It was payback time. Not only did he steal my notebook, he gave me a hard time in retrieving it back. He could enjoy the same rush of agony while trying to make it up to her.
"You are taking it in the wrong way." I spoke up loudly as I turned to face Dana. it was my attempt to kill the awkward silence which was lingering in the air. At least one of us had to take the first step and say something. So I thought why not be that one.
"Am I?" She shifted her attention to me for the briefest of seconds before moving it back to him. "Based on what I saw, it didn't look like an accident. And please, carry on. There is no need for you two to take my emotions into account." She gritted through her teeth.
I could understand where her anger was sprouting from, but the only person who could placate the fire breathing dragon before us, was standing like a statue next to me.
"Aden?" I muttered under my breath to get his attention. "Say something, will you?" I added to shift the spotlight back to him. There was no way I would let myself get into the line of fire. Aden was more than welcome to eat all the bullets.
"Dana? Trust me. There's nothing going on between us. It was just a friendly hug." He finally managed to say something, but his words did nothing to ease the tension. In fact, they sounded like he was indeed guilty of going around his precious girlfriend's back.
"A friendly hug?" She scoffed. "Are you going to tell me now that it was a friendly little kiss too?"
If an animator was to be involved in the scene which was unfolding before my eyes, I was sure that he would have added some steam coming off Dana's ears. Too bad that it didn't happen in real life. It surely would have added some spice in it.
Sorry that I couldn't update yesterday, was having a bad day. I hope you guys understand :)
