The other preternaturals that were trying to leave at the same time with us, stopped as well, even though Starosta Volkova was pointing the rog just at both of us.

“What about us, Starosta?” asked a rusalka, who was holding hands with a younger rusalka that looked like it was her sister. “Everybody is going crazy and attacking each other. The sun is burning the vampires. The Academy is collapsing.”

“Hush, Nikolova,” said Starosta Volkova. “And go back inside. No one is leaving.”

“We have to get out of here, Starosta,” I said, stepping forward. Starosta Volkova’s eyes dropped down to my hand letting go of Nevena’s hand and she squinted her eyes. “This castle will collapse on top of us.”

“I know that you think that, Jovanović,” said Starosta. “But as of yet, Slavonika is still standing and it is my responsibility to care for the students within its walls. And I say, everybody – get back.”
