Chapter 43: Back to Reality

Having the comfort of my own bed after so long was a treat. I woke up feeling well rested and ready to tick off my activity list one by one. Narissa was up before me and was lounging around in the living room staring out of the huge French windows.

"Good morning!" I greeted cheerfully. "You're up early. Were you uncomfortable at night?"

She turned around, her big blue eyes gleaming, her bewitching smile brightening up the moment even more, "Hi! Yes, I did have a little trouble. But I'll get used to it. Seems like forever since I slept on a proper bed."

Luckily, I had a two-bedroom home. I had intentionally taken up a spacious apartment, so I could get my mom to spend time with me occasionally. But that hardly ever happened, since dad's condition required her to be around him.

The only time she came over for a weekend was when dad had to undergo a barrage of tests. Occasionally, I would get a friend from work over for company on weekends, when I felt too lonely.
