Chapter 31: The Witch is Missing

As soon as Archon and King Kronus saw us, they relaxed their stance enough to talk and tell us what was going on.

"Everything was going according to plan. I flew over the mansion and breathed enough fire to light it up like a gigantic bonfire. King Kronus took position here with the others to capture her. But she never came out," ranted Archon.

King Kronus continued, "You know, as the house burned, the fog started to clear. I think the hocus-pocus that kept the path hidden had its base in the house. We thought this was a positive development for us, since we'd be able to catch her easily. But..." He shrugged exasperatedly.

"How long has it been? Maybe she's hiding behind the house, knowing you all are here," I ventured an explanation.

Archon negated my rationale, "I don't think so. We've been waiting an hour or more. Surely, she couldn't hide that long around that blaze. Do you think she died in there? We'll just have to wait till the fire subsides, to check."
