Chapter 24: Narissa - The Mermaid

None of us was sure what we had seen, and we went closer to the lake to check it out. Nothing was visible other than the unstill water. I made a quick decision, "I think I'll swim and go under to see what I can find."

"Be careful, it could be dangerous," cautioned Jim. "Shall I come with you? I think I will."

"Let's all go in," added Roy, "It's a large lake, we'll go in different directions."

Just as we were about to step into the water, we again saw strong bubbling, and we instinctively took a step back. The mystery was mounting in slow motion and we were getting restless. Finally, there was a big whoosh! Water splashed high and up came a mermaid.

*That must be the mermaid Archon told us about - the one who made the water magical. It's true then, not just a legend. My goodness, she's beautiful!*

She came up to the banks of the lake and gave us a piercing look, "You're taking the water from the lake? I need to know why."
