Chapter Eleven: Ambush

Chapter Eleven: Ambush {Two in One chapter}

Dusken took a step forward, and his expression stiffened; a faint pressure had pressed down on him as soon as he took that step.

He immediately arched an eyebrow at this, the pressure was nothing to him compared to the pain he felt from the wounds received from Ashahell's attack.

But if he wasn't wrong, then with every advancement he made, the pressure on him would intensify until he couldn't bear it anymore.

'This pressure won't stop me, my aim is the strongest legacy, and I must get it,'

This thought intensified Dusken's resolve to reach the end of the hall, and without a second thought, he made another movement forward.

Just as he had suspected, the weight pressing down on him grew heavier, but it wasn't a threat to Dusken… at least not yet.

His gaze swept across the children in the area; out of those who had stepped forward, some had pained expressions on their faces, while some were calm like him.

Many children, though, just went to nearby statues to inherit the god statue's legacy. They placed their hands on the statue, and something surprising happened after; the statues touched by the children would become transparent, and the individuals would have excitement on their faces before they vanished.

There were some cases where multiple individuals touched the same statue, and the statue would also become transparent and the individuals would all show brief joy on their faces before also vanishing.

Dusken didn't know the reason for their excitement, but he knew that they were probably facing the trial of the statue they had chosen when they disappeared.

He moved his gaze away from the happenings around him, as his eyes were focused on the path ahead.

He leisurely walked down the corridor; the statues in the area all seemed like they were alive.

It gave the illusion that they were watching as the children walked past them.

Dusken recognized many of them, but those were not the strongest from his memories, so he ignored them.

The pressure he felt was intensifying with every step he took, sometimes he began to see illusions of his flesh being torn apart and his bones breaking, but he still walked down the hall with determined steps.

"Argh!" A girl groaned loudly as she spat out some blood and fell on her knees, the blood on the ground instantly vanished from the marble floor like it had never been there.

The girl had a slender body, white skin, and bright brown eyes. Her face winced in pain as she visibly clenched her fists; it seemed that she had reached her limit.

Dusken only shook his head internally at this sight; the pressure intensified as one walked forward.

A person should know their limit and not over-exert themselves, for if they died, they would only be left pitiful.

The girl probably wanted to go farther than her limit, and it had almost cost her life; she slowly got up and walked towards a statue that Dusken recognized.

The god of depths. A god rumoured to have drowned the battlefield in the depth of despair, making his enemies lose their sense of self and kill themselves.

He was a very powerful god and his legacy would be great to have, but Dusken's aim was for the top.

There were only ten most powerful gods in all of the mythologies, both the Southern, Northern, Eastern and Western mythologies, in his past life but if he was correct, then there would be only nine left.

Dusken shook his head, this wasn't the time to think of such things. Around him were children numbering close to two hundred.

He wasn't surprised at all, he wasn't the only smart person in the world.

Although these children may not have reincarnated as he had, they still had brains. It wasn't hard for them to know that the earlier statues would be weaker compared to the ones down the corridor.

As Dusken walked down the hall, the pressure increased sharply, but it was still within a manageable range.

Interest began to appear in his eyes, as he noticed some powerful gods and goddesses from the mythologies of his past life.

God of travel,

God of Anger,

Goddess of wind,

Goddess of shape….

All these deities were known by Dusken due to his past life's memories, they also had names, but for some reason, he couldn't remember them.

Whenever he tried, he realized that they were at the tip of his tongue but he just couldn't say it out.

Instantly, he knew the problem: the hall was messing with his memories, so he couldn't remember the names of these deities.

Dusken had walked far down the hall, a leisure look on his face like he was on an excursion, but deep inside, he was wary.

As they travelled down, some children gave up and chose a statue while some continued, and now there were only a few children down here; the pressure he was feeling had transformed into intense pain.

With each step, the pain increased, Dusken was beginning to get serious and was not walking as leisurely as before, but the pain was still tractable.

The children that walked in this area were slightly less than 50, but still, they had Dusken's respect…

Before he could think some more, he felt a tug at the back of his mind; the shadows suddenly sent him a warning; it wasn't the aloof shadows of the hall, but the shadow of something different that didn't come from here.

Instantly, there was a blur of motion and a flash of steel, Dusken reacted in time, moving his head backwards as a light cut streaked across his cheek.

A strand of his white hair fell to the ground, and slight blood flowed out of his superficial wound.

His gaze swept across the area as some children surrounded him, he knew it, they had planned well. He had always known that he was a target for elimination.

Ever since his parents in this life went missing, other clans decided that it was time to share his clan's resources, and they murdered all his siblings when they were in the Ethereal Land.

Today… was his turn. There was a world policy that no clan could directly usurp other clans or go for senseless killing because humanity was at war with aliens.

Here was the Ethereal Land, and people died every day; no one would know who killed who.

The other children in the area were visibly surprised, but they didn't respond; they continued walking down the corridor with no intention of helping.

Dusken's eyes flashed with a cold light as he observed around; surrounding him were 6 children; one of them had two short blades protruding from his elbow instead of his hands.

Another had blue light glowing on his hand; next to him was a very lean boy who held a stick with a long rope tied to it, forming a crudely made whip.

Dusken immediately understood that the self-made whip had come from the town down the cliff.

Near the lean boy was a girl with a round face and a very fat body who was smiling ruthlessly.

Another boy with two different eye colours had a foolish grin attached to his face, while the last one was a girl wearing a long pointy hat, and her hands were covered by black opera gloves.

He recognized them all; they were geniuses from the enemy clans opposed to his own.

His gaze darkened as he recognized the girl wearing the gloves.

"Jessica, so your song clan betrayed us?" his tone was cold, but there was a sense of indifference in them.

Jessica was from the song clan which was an ally of his night clan. But who expected that they had betrayed them?

"Hmph! You all from your clan are too shortsighted, now that you're here, my clan has already betrayed your clan in the real world, hehe." Jessica let out a small chuckle, her voice rang out in the silent corridor.

Dusken's heart went cold as bitterness filled him; Elder John's worried expression flashed past his mind, and he clenched his fists.

'I must survive. 1, 2, 3,...' Dusken started counting.

The other five children stared at Dusken with malice.

They moved around him while he followed them with his gaze. Without warning, they all attacked.

Dusken followed the tug at the back of his mind as the shadows helped him with information.

He ducked his head down as a blade sliced through the air; he moved back as a whip landed on the marble floor.

He backed away once again as a blue light shot past his previous location, but then before he could move, the fat girl hoisted herself at Dusken.

She jumped very high into the air, higher than what was supposed to be normal, and then she fell with overwhelming speed at him.

It happened so fast, and the fat girl fell on Dusken's head, making him fall to the ground as his head hit the marble floor with a light thud, which made him feel dizzy.

He came back to his senses as intense weight pressed down on him. He immediately used all his strength to push the fat girl off him, and then he saw a dancing figure coming at him from the front; it was Jessica.

He wanted to move back, but the boy with a whip was behind him. Coming at him from his left was the boy with two different coloured eyes, and from his right, the guy with blade hands stabbed forward.

The fat girl was grabbing his legs and ahead of him was Jessica.

'Six minutes left; I have to survive for six more minutes', Dusken continued, counting the seconds.

With no other option, he gritted his teeth and heavily stomped on the hands of the fat girl making her shriek and release him.

He charged towards Jessica as she seemed easier to handle. She spun, and a kick flew at him - he defended himself with his right hand.

He punched at Jessica without hesitation, but she twirled around, making his punch miss. The shadows once again tugged at his mind.

He moved his right hand in an attempt to catch a flying whip that was coming from behind, but then the whip of the lean boy accelerated as if it had been empowered.

It hit Dusken's palm, causing injuries and making blood drip on the marble floor, only to disappear a moment later.

"You would die today, Dusken!" Jessica spoke in a determined tone.

He bent his head, and the leg of Jessica swiped the air above him.

'Damn it, they're too strong,'

He slightly moved his upper body, barely dodging a blue light that flew at him as he continued to count.

A punch suddenly landed on his left rib by the boy with two coloured eyes who had arrived near him, the weight of the punch so heavy that he immediately fell to the ground, as pain shot through his senses.

He suppressed a groan from slipping out of his mouth, blood trickled down his jaw from his lips.

With no time to think, he rolled as a blade stabbed his previous location, and he hoisted himself up.

The fat girl once again leaped at him, but this time, he was ready.

What awaited her face was a vicious kick.

"Argh! Do you dare? I'll kill you!" the fat girl screamed as her nose bled.

The sound of the air tearing apart was once again heard as the whip charged at him.

Dusken used all his speed and ran down the hall while barely leaving the range of the whip, although the pain he felt from the hall intensified, he didn't care.

It was because he had finally broken out of their encirclement that he continued counting.

"Nice Job, Dusken You survived our onslaught, but for how long?" the boy with blade hands said with a cold smirk on his face.

Dusken didn't respond, his gaze scanned them as he noted his findings and also identified them.

The fat girl's side ability seemed to have something to do with jumping very high, and she was Benita from the sky clan.

Jessica had a weird side ability; she seemed to be capable of dancing expertly while fighting, and it intensified her attack power; she was from the song clan.

The boy with short brown hair, who transformed his hand into blades, was Drake from the wrath clan.

The boy with two coloured eyes had super strength, and the punch he had delivered to him was painful; he was Alex from the Twin eyed clan.

The other male with Azure eyes, seemed to have a side ability that makes blue light cover his hands, with the effect of the light unknown. He Was Joel from the Silverstrikes clan

The lean boy with a whip had the side ability to accelerate the speed of his weapon, but Dusken didn't recognise him.

Under the dimly lit path of the corridor and the stale air blowing through the area, a grim expression appeared on Dusken's face.

Their powers were already great, but six against one was too much but a look of cold contempt flashed past his eyes as he smiled darkly.

'Do you think you all are enough to kill me? There are only two minutes left, let me see what you can do by then, hehe'
