Chapter 3, Jin

Jin prepares to clean his wound while doing so, he saw his late father's painkillers. After that, he went to his father's old workshop and started to look for something. Their old pictures are displayed on one of the cabinets. Jin started to remember the old days when his father was still alive.

After a fight at school, the principal suggested Jin's father bring him to a psychiatrist.

"So what's wrong with him?" ~Jack to Teressa

"Oh well, there's nothing wrong" ~Teressa

"If anything, your kid is a prodigy" ~Teressa

"A prodigy?" ~Jack

"Your kid remembers every detail about his classmate" ~Teressa

"He also gave me a detailed explanation of why he punched him" ~Teressa

"And that is?" ~Jack

"He stepped on his bag while he wasn't there" ~Teressa

"So how did he know if he wasn't there?" ~Jack

"He remembered the mark on his classmate's shoes. He knew that he was the only one in the class who had that" ~Teressa

"Wait. How did he know the mark of his shoes?" ~Jack

"When they were playing soccer." ~Teressa

Jack was shocked by this, but he was still skeptical, maybe his son was making things up. So he decided to test his son.

"Jin, as your punishment. Go read this book then write it down after I retrieve it." ~Jack

"I'll take it away in 3 hours" ~Jack

"If you don't have it memorized by the time I go back, I'll confiscate your phone and you won't be using it for a week" ~Jack

After 10 minutes his son went to him

"So you can't do it after all, where's your phone?" ~Jack

"I'm ready. Father." ~Jin

"Ready for what? Where's your phone?" ~Jack

"I'm here to write." ~Jin

"Don't mess with me, It's been 10 minutes and you already read 400 pages?" ~Jack

"It was 418 pages father. 4 for introduction, abstract, and table of contents and other extra pages at the back." ~Jin

This surprised Jack once again, he could only give his son an empty notebook and Jin began writing. After 2 hours of writing, his hands were tired but he was able to finish 100 pages Jack was finally convinced that his son had a photographic memory. He even read the notebook to confirm that it wasn't all scribbling.

[It was a book about self-defense.]

Impressed by this, Jack started training his kid. Since Jack works for the government as a spy, he made sure that every single thing he has learned will be passed on to his kid so that Jin learns how to defend himself, especially because of the nature of Jack's work.

Time passed and Jin already read everything on their bookshelf, he also trained himself to shoot a gun with unrivaled accuracy. His level of knowledge exceeds that of a doctor. Then one night, some intruders went inside their home, in an attempt to assassinate Jack. From upstairs, Jin saw the intruder in the kitchen. He silently went to his father's room to wake him up and inform him. Jack then took two guns from their safe and gave one to Jin.

"Why?" ~Jin asks

"He may not be the only one" ~Jack

As they were preparing their guns, Jack passes a silencer to Jin. But before it land on Jin's hand a bullet pierced through the door to Jack's arm. As the shooter enters Jin precisely shot the joints of their index finger. Making the shooter lose grip on their weapon but not before shooting another bullet. Thankfully the barrel was pointing somewhere else.

Then Jack finished it off by shooting the head of the man.

"Why didn't you kill him?" ~Jack to Jin

Jin didn't answer.

"The next time you hesitate both of us will die" ~Jack

"I understand" ~Jin

Both of them formed a plan to go downstairs. Jack asked to cover his back because the intruders may have already been upstairs.

As they predicted the moment Jack reached the stairs there were two people upstairs hiding inside two different rooms. So they reacted quickly, Jack shot the one in the right immediately. On the other hand, Jin failed to shoot the one on the left due to his nervousness, the intruder immediately reacted by using the door as cover. At the moment he hid, Jin predicted where his head was going behind and then shot him. Because of this, he felt something extreme, the feeling that he had killed a person. He started hyperventilating.

"We don't have time for this, take deep breaths." ~Jack

As they went downstairs, they immediately took out the rest of the intruders except one. The sniper was hiding from a faraway tree. They quickly noticed him because he shot the kitchen corner but they have no clue where he is. So Jack put the flashlight on a rod with a mirror to make the scope flash so they'll know where the sniper is.

Upon knowing the location he now knows that it's impossible to shoot him from this distance. He then plans to get a bigger gun upstairs. So he runs upstairs, and a bullet barely hit him. But while his father is upstairs, Jin had the wildest idea to gamble whether he can hit the sniper or not. After Jack went downstairs he saw his son with a gunshot wound in the thigh, barely standing up.

"What are you doing? get down!" ~Jack to Jin

"He's already dead" ~Jin

"What?!" ~Jack

"I shot him through his scope, he fell down from the tree and didn't get up." ~Jin

To confirm this they went outside together and saw the dead body and a sniper with a broken scope.

~After awhile

"Sorry, Jin they're calling me back to work. Take care of the house while I'm gone" ~Jack

And that was the last thing he heard from his father. The police came and informed Jin that Jack is dead but they couldn't find the body. They also assured Jin wouldn't have to worry about money since the government will compensate him monthly. But back in Jin's mind, he thought that it is impossible for them to know that Jack is dead without the body.

~Two days ago from the present

He saw a girl wearing a black cap and a black jacket suspiciously going out of the alley. As the girl passes Jin, Jin noticed the gun on her belt. Then he grabbed the girl's arm.

"What are you doing?" ~Jin to the girl

"Jin?" ~the girl

The girl tries to break free from Jin but it was futile, Jin bent her arm behind her. The girl knew that she won't win so she tried to grab her gun with her other hand, But it wasn't there.

"Looking for this?" ~Jin showing the gun he took from the girl.

"Who are you and why do you know me?" ~Jin

The girl didn't answer so Jin continued.

"Do you know my father?" ~Jin

The girl was desperate not to get discovered so she grabbed by gun's barrel. Because of this Jin accidentally shot the gun and her hand started bleeding from the friction of the barrel. Jin accidentally releases the girl and the girl ran. He left the girl alone, but he couldn't shake the feeling that the girl knows something about his father. So he walked towards the direction where the girl ran to. After walking for a while he saw someone that has a similar height and back as the girl she encountered. So Jin approached the person. But after he reaches the person, Jin realized that it was Cauli. He also noticed that Cauli's hand was fine so it wasn't them.

"Have you seen a girl wearing a black cap and a black jacket?" ~Jin approached Cauli abruptly.

"I think so, in a restaurant near our school" ~Cauli

"Oh, you've seen her there too." ~Jin

"Call me if you ever see her again, here, this is my number." ~Jin

"Okay. But why?" ~Cauli

"Nothing. I'll get you something if you did" ~Jin

Jin blankly stares at Cauli as Cauli walks away.

~Present

While lying down on the bed Cauli was checking out their new phone. Cauli noticed the phone's quality and starts to overthink.

[What if he changes his mind, and takes the phone back] [No way right? He shouldn't have bought one in the first place] ~Cauli thought

[What if he makes me pay for it? What if he sues me] ~In Cauli's mind

[I should stop. Besides I don't think there's a law that you can sue someone for that] [Maybe he's just really rich, and was feeling generous that day] ~Cauli

Then while holding the phone, It rang. This surprised Cauli and lost their grip on the phone, the phone then falls on their face. "Aw.." Cauli picks up the phone and noticed that the one calling was Emile.

"What?" ~Cauli to Emille

"Can I go visit tomorrow?" ~Emile

"No." ~Cauli ends the call.

After a few minutes, Cauli felt bad so they called Emille.

"Why do you want to come over?" ~Cauli

"No, it's fine if you don't want to" ~Emile

"I'm fine with it. Why though?" ~Cauli

"I was going to try the new game I bought yesterday" ~Emile

"Why don't you try it at your house" ~Cauli

"I want to try the multiplayer mode, and I don't feel comfortable playing it at home" ~Emile

"Okay, but it better be fun" ~Cauli

"Yes! Thank you Cauli, you're such a great friend" ~Emille ends the call

"Was that sarcasm?" ~Cauli noticed that Emille already ended the call

After this, Cauli texted their mother that a friend is coming over tomorrow. Cauli then looks at their old phone and hid it in the drawer. After Cauli hid the phone they noticed that there was a tall man outside through the window looking at their house. Then Cauli suddenly remembered what Jin said yesterday "It was a tall man about as tall or taller than Emille, His was face fully covered." they noticed that it fully resembles what Jin described except the man's face isn't entirely covered, this time it was wearing sunglasses.

Cauli thought it resembled Emille too but the hair is different and has a scar below his right cheek. Cauli also noticed that the man smokes so it couldn't be Emille because he hates smoking. So Cauli immediately hid beside the window and opened their phone to record the man. The man soon left, and this made Cauli relieved. Cauli starts overthinking again and thought that maybe they got involved in some kind of mafia.

[What if Jin bought the phone with stolen money?] [What if they were chasing Jin and considered me as Jin's accomplice] ~Cauli

[No way right? No way.] ~Cauli

-Phone rings-

Cauli lets out a light scream. They instinctively threw the phone luckily it lands on the bed. When Cauli picks up the phone it was Emille again.

"Stop that" ~Cauli

"Stop what?" ~Emille

"What is it again?" ~Cauli

"Are you busy?" ~Emille

"No, just what is it?" ~Cauli

"Do you want dumplings or rice cake?" ~Emille

"Rice cake, or both" ~Cauli

"Okay, both it is!" ~Emille ends the call

"Ugh." ~Cauli

Cauli then clears their mind and the day went normally afterward.
