The Memory Weaver
Caden's absence left a lingering stillness, as if he had left his shadow behind, a silent caution in the darkness. Avery's heart continued to pound as she peered over at Lucas, his face grimly determined. He peered at the empty space where Caden had stood minutes before, his face taut with frustration.
They returned to the main building for security, but an unnerving silence descended on the group. Professor Russo lingered nearby, her eyes filled with concern as she spoke with several of the researchers who had seen Caden. Avery should notice the dread on everyone's face, the fear that something larger and worse is stirring.
Lucas interrupted the silence, his voice frantic. "Caden is riskier than any body I've ever met. "He did not even break a sweat."
Avery gazed at him with mounting alarm. "We will find a way to stop him. "We always do."
