Wounded

Back at the Batcave, I was going through Theodore Wagner's files. 'Hmm… no matter how many times I investigate him, he's clean. He bought the Continental using his inheritance. He dropped out from school in his last year.' "He's clean."

"He is too clean. That's the problem." Batman appeared from the shadows like he always does. "His rise to success is short and without failure. From his school days it shows he was intelligent, but not in business." 

"What about his C.E.O?" I pulled out files on Taylor Smith. "It might be because of her… plus she has experience in management, and she was managing Mr. Wagner's haberdashery."

"Push that aside. The reason why he was attacked today was because he made a breakthrough in integrating Kevlar fibres into normal suits. He will issue his security these suits next month. Criminals all over Gotham will be willing to do anything to get their hands on that, meaning Mr. Wagner will be targeted and his enemies will double their efforts." Batman moved to the computers and brought up a case that was always in reach, but we end up at a dead end.

"The Division is what they call themselves. Trained, and have been operating frequently starting this year. They are a grey organisation as it has been seen how they operate when a criminal crosses with them, they always end up in police' hands." Batman continued typing in his keyboard.

"I interrogated one of them." I listened carefully. "He was approached by them when they saw potential in him. He was then given a probation of six months to watch him then give him a test from a range of options: collect every information about a specified individual, eliminate a target, steal a valuable or frame a criminal." That was one way of filtering skilled people from the crowd.

"This approach by them has made many criminals active. Those looking for a second chance at something and those paranoid that they will be targeted next." Batman then removed a handgun from inside his cape, two thumb-sized vials and a silver metal box that could fit in one hand. 

"These are issued to them to assist them in completing their probation period. This handgun is light and it's cotted by a non-magnetic and low electronic conductor, making it hard for metal detectors to pick it up." He placed the gun in a glass case then moved to the two vials. "I already tested them. They are Scarecrow and Joker's antidotes." I was stunned. "Last year's new group got their hands on their formulas and reversed engineered them and mass produced them."

"This last tool is a storage compartment. It has a space inside of 3 cubic meters." Now I was just shocked. The Division had technology to build something like this!? "And it's made using Lead, meaning they know about Superman." This group felt like it was going to give every Superhero it encounters headaches.

"I'll be heading to the watchtower. In the meantime, get ready to meet The Team tomorrow" Batman disappeared like he usually does.

August 2009

(Star city)

In an abandoned warehouse, multiple men in combat suits could be seen surrounding and approaching it. They looked like military but covert. Inside the warehouse, the was a paranoid group of villains surrounding a huge dark-skinned man shouting at everyone and ordered them to stay alert and engage the enemy if detected.

Green arrow was investigating a case involving the super villain Brick when he noticed around twenty men surrounding his warehouse.

A few moments later, a gun shot announced the beginning of the fight. Green arrow engaged one of the black uniformed men using non-lethal arrows. This only stunned him for a moment and returned to counter him. This short moment made Green arrow realize that these men were tougher that the average villain. He got serious and neared one of them and continued fighting. 

Looking over his shoulder, he saw Brick surrounded and all his henchmen were down, their status was unknown. He quickly put down his opponent and went on to the next. Brick was being shot at using exploding bullets which irritated him. His tough skin was the only thing holding him together. Clothes on his upper body was ruined and now, he was on his knees.

Green Arrow shot a stunning and smoke arrow at them. He moved swiftly to get Brick away from them but then instincts told him to move away. He was unfortunate as he was not quick enough.

A sniper had got him. Had he not moved, it would have passed through his heart. Now he was retreating with a stomach wound. "Aaaw… they really hid their sniper… don't remember last time I was shot…" Oliver quickly patched the wound and called in reinforcements.

"Green arrow to Justice League. I'm in need of assistance. I'm wounded. Multiple enemies… they are highly trained, and they came well prepared."

[Batman and I are on our way.] Wonder woman answered. 

He started distracting them from multiple positions. "Eem… guys? It looks like Brick just got sucked into a small box" he told the Justice League coming to help me.

[Does it look like it's made from lead?] Batman asked over the comms. 

"Yeah… how'd you know?" 'Does Batman know everything?'

[I came across them last week. They are a criminal organization known as the Division. High tech, well trained and both effective and efficient in many of their operations.] Batman said.

[We'll be there in two minutes. Hold on then we'll get answers from them.] Wonder woman said.

Two minutes later Wonder woman flies to us swiftly picking up one of them and smashing them at a nearby wall. The rest alerted by this quickly shift their attention to the newcomers.

A distorted voice said, "Switch to lethal bullets. This is the justice league we are dealing with now. FA-S-1, 2 and 3. Retreat with the captive. We'll stay here and deal with them." He spotted me and started shooting exploding bullets at me. Good thing batman dived in quickly and started engaging with him.

The one who was thrown at the wall got up and dusted himself like nothing happened to him. 'Are they meta humans with enhanced strength?' Green arrow stood up and saw him pick up a boulder from his crush against the wall. It shouldn't be possible for human beings unless they were either Metas. He threw it straight at Wonder woman, but she easily evaded it and closed the distance between them punched at him. Surprisingly, he was holding out well. It was either that or Wonder was going easy on him. 

Batman was occupied with the other three and was gaining the upper hand. Batman moved swiftly with precision without any openings. We heard engines roar that could only mean the other group was going to get away, but they didn't get that far away as we heard Black Canary's scream that overturned the vehicle.

A few moments later, the fight finished, and we apprehended every criminal on site.

Dinah patched me up properly and we went to Batman. 

"I'll use the lasso of truth on this one. He looks to be their leader." Wonder woman said pointing at a seated now maskless person. He had a broken nose.

"Who do you work for?" Batman started in cold tone.

Grunts "… I work for the Division." He stated.

"What is your name and what are you in the Division?" 

"Name is James Black, code name FA-S-1, a field agent for the Division operating in Star city." James answered Batman's question.

I cut in before Batman asked another question. "What were you doing in Star city?"

"We were tasked with capturing supervillain named Brick and transport him to the docks where a different team was going to pick him."
