CHAPTER 32: SONGS OF DEATH: FINAL CALL

when caitlyn chambers reaches at the back gate of P.N academy, she couldn't help but to smile, but it faded a few seconds after when he saw a familiar figure standing at the gate leisurely while holding a semi-automatic pistol as though he's expecting her to go there.

"fynn.." he blurted, as he started to felt a fear, especially when she saw his smile.

"seems like you need my help, caitlyn." he said meaningfully, due to the fear she felt, her knees began to tremble as she kneel down Infront of fynn and look at him with her despairing look, her make up was already ruined due to her constantly crying, and the face that every guys obsessed with cannot be recognize anymore.

"f-fynn.. it's not what you think! Please h-help me! It's all m-misunderstanding! T-that time.. I.. t-those guys blackmail me that i-if I didn't pleasure t-them, they will kill me! I don't have any choice! and then as for that video.. aria was the one who's at fault! he bad-mouthed you! and I can't tolerate that! and that time.. I.. I didn't know that someone take a video of me-!" caitlyn's eyes widened when a fragments of memories started to appear on her mind, that time when they were in the women's comfort room, there's another person who was with them.

'No wonder why A-class couldn't surpassed class-zero for almost a decades, they are full of immature and childish people'

' I'm really not the type of person who mind someone else's business, but what you are doing right now did realllyyy~ caught my attention.'

'It really makes me laugh witnessing a useless dog bullying another useless dog without their master in sight.'

'You daughter of a bitch! I've been really hated you since then! Just who the hell do you think you are?!'

'and now it really makes me want to burst into laughter seeing an untamed useless dog challenging a tiger without the help of her kin.'

'I am one of the top climber of P.N academy, the rank 23! and yet you dare to humiliate me?! I'll make you pay!'

'a rank 23 you say..? is this what the top climber who's above top 50 can do? you're just like a random assailant in the streets that I can easily kill if I wanted to.'

".. was her." fynn frowned when caitlyn whisper to him something, so he asked her,

"what do you mean..?"

he didn't know that there's another person hiding in the shadow fifty meters away from them, he's holding a black revolver that pointed at caitlyn, waiting a right time to shoot her.

caitlyn then grabbed fynn's arm in desperation and anger. "it was her fynn! believe me! she's the one who instigate this whole commotion!! THAT BITCH WANTS ME TO BE DEAD BY USING YOU TO KILL ME! THAT E- BANG BANG BANG!"

three consecutive bullets pierced at caitlyn's forehead, neck and heart that makes fynn to be shocked as the sound of gunshots echoed around the whole campus, everyone heard this, be it those people at the gymnasium, the headmistress bite his lips after hearing this while going back and forth at the backstage.

but the one who heard it the most was none other than damion and elyze as the place where they will go to—which is the security room, was just near at the direction of the back gate where the gunshots came from. elyze narrowed her eyes, thinking weather if It's Chauncey or caitlyn who died. but since she haven't receive any calls from devian, she deduced that those gunshots was for caitlyn.

"Let's go!" damion said to her seriously so she just followed him.

a few minutes later, their eyes widened when they saw fynn Infront of caitlyn's corpses, so they run towards him in shock, fynn went back in reality by the time he saw them running towards him, so fynn click his tongue.

"clemency.. did you kill her..?" damion asked suspiciously.

"Huh..? why would I kill her? someone shot her out of the blue when she was about to say the person behind this incident. it appears like she found out who's the one who leak her scandals and video."

fynn narrowed her eyes to elyze when she walks towards caitlyn's corpse who's eyes was still open, so she just close it look at her expressionlessly. 'this is not what I anticipated.. is it him? she thought.

"a shot on his head, neck and heart. seems like it was made by a person who have an excellent shooting skills. it's flawless." she stand up before smile at fynn before looking at damion with solemn face.

"with this, we have confirmed that the instigator of this commotion wasn't alone. it have an accomplice hiding somewhere in the shadow. "

"yeah. but why is he doing this?"

fynn also stand up before shrugged his shoulder, "the student council election was just around the corner and the number of my supporter was just one step ahead from yours and to keir. who knows.. it might be from your faction who wants you to win or.." he looks at elyze as though he want to hint him something. "It was from Keir's faction, after all, winning a seat in student council means you will become one of the rulers of this school."

but elyze just pretend she doesn't know anything and keep her smiling face. "... if that's the case, then why did they have to involve the people inside of the gymnasium?"

damion was taken aback when he heard what elyze says, his mind went adrift as he started to fell into dilemma once more. now that she mention it, if it really was just a normal political conflicts between the seats of student council, why bother involving those people who's not even related to the candidates of student council?

why do they have to block all the possible entrance in the gymnasium and switch off the lights in every corner of the campus if they could just kill caitlyn by luring her only?

why do they have to leak caitlyn's scandal Infront of the crowds if they can just blackmail her in secret?

and lastly.. why it have to be fynn's faction, not damion's nor keir? is it because they are way too stronger than fynn's? no. it's because it have to be them.

after pondering for almost 15 minutes, damion slowly understand what does the instigator planning to do. so a small smirk curve on his lips as he glance at elyze who was beside him and smile.

"Elyze.. thank you." she couldn't help but to frowned at damion that makes him laugh after that, damion pat her head so she gasps while looking at him. 'what the hell..? did he found something..?'

meanwhile, damion let out a sigh and glance above the sky. "sigh. we almost fell to their plan if not only because of elyze. well played, whoever it is."

hearing this, elyze heart skipped a beat a little, after confirming that her plan was found out, at the same time.. she couldn't help but to feel amusement towards him.

"what do you mean..?" fynn asked to damion, so he look at him solemnly and started to explain.

"this is indeed related to the student council election, the instigator knew that we were both running as the president of student council, that's why it want us to clashed together. since he knew that aria was also a del luna, he knows that I wouldn't sit still if someone harassed or hurt my sister, after all, that would tarnished the del luna's reputation. that's why when he happens to saw caitlyn harassing aria in comfort room, he took that as his advantage against us and made a plan to leak that video Infront of many people."

fynn nods when he understand what is he trying to say, then he continued with a smile as though he was mesmerized by the craftiness of an instigator. " I see.. and since caitlyn harassed the member of del luna family, he knows that I'm going to eliminate her, to avoid the del luna's rage fell upon me. since our relationship wasn't known to the masses, he also predicted that I'm going to instruct edwin to fabricate the news that she and I have nothing to do with each other, thus, the del luna won't lay their hands on me, and I will be saved. only my supporters will decreased. but it just also means that I already lose to the game. What a frightening enemy, he knows how the people's mind work well."

"you're right about that however.." even if they have manage to point out their enemy's plan, for some unknown reason, damion was still feeling uneasy. as if like something was still amiss, but he doesn't know what it is.

meanwhile, elyze was just standing there, observing damion's serious face, even if they have found out her first plan, it still won't affect her true intention. killing caitlyn isn't the main goal but only a bait so that she won't caught the higher-ups attention. elyze plan was to kill chauncey and then make it look like as though it was made by the revolutionaries, thus she would be out of the picture.

"should we went to the security room first?" she asked to damion that makes him turn his head on her, he narrowed his eyes on her, short after, he nod at her.

"yeah, we should do that."

beneath the moonlight, there was a man running as fast as he can towards the direction of angelical flower garden, this man was none other than chauncey steinhart, trying to get away from devian.

"They are planning to kill me.. what's more their deadly one was the one who tracking me down, I have no chance against him damn it. if only damion was here.." he just keep pondering without knowing that some phantom's knight members was already waiting on him from the shadow.

then, he stop running as soon as he heard the sound of violin getting played somewhere, it's filled with sorrow and at the same time regret, Chauncey find this somewhat familiar, so he followed the tune as he found himself standing Infront of a white pavilion, with a camellia trees in each side and any other types of flowers surrounding on it. he narrowed his eyes, and saw a familiar figure with silver hair, standing at the pavilion while playing a violin, at first he thought that it was devian so he took out a dagger from his pocket in case if he attack him but then as he get closer, he saw the man's gold eyes so he put down his dagger and went to him.

"Keir, what are you doing here?"

the boy turn his back and saw chauncey, panting and sweating so he stop playing and took his handkerchief before give it to him, chauncey accepted it and sat on the ground while staring at the moonlight.

"why are you running..?" keir asked.

"the phantom's knight.. was chasing me." keir pretended to be in shocked but at the same time he couldn't help but to stare at him with his solemn face, knowing to himself that the reason why he was here was to eliminate him. keir didn't know that, although he keep saying to himself that he doesn't care about the lives of people here, it won't change the fact that they still became his friends, especially Chauncey who was always with him.

"chasing you.. why would they?"

"That's because..ah.." chauncey stop from talking as soon as he realize something, so he slowly turn his head at keir and glance at him using his solemn look. he saw keir's innocent face as though he have no idea but this didn't fool chauncey at all. so he laugh to himself and glance at the moonlight once again. at this point, he already know that this would be his last day to see this moon so bright.

he smile bitterly, and started to reminisce about their past.

"keir.. do you still remember when you came here three years ago?"

keir frowned but he still replied to him, "uh-huh, that's also the first time we met, if you just know how annoying you are that time, you keep following me whenever I go, telling me to play something for you. " he complained that makes Chauncey chuckled.

"that's right.. it's been 3 years.."

3 years ago..

The pale crescent moon shone like a silvery claw in the night sky. a young man can be seen strolling around the garden while reading some romance books, this is what the young chauncey's always doing everytime there's something bugging on his mind, after all, being a first prince of norway was difficult. it gives him a lot of pressure, and plus.. his sister was taken as hostage by his very own father, threatening him that if he didn't do what he says, he'll kill her. chauncey knows that he could do that, he was the reason why they lose a mother after all.

he was taken aback when he heard the sound of violin getting played by someone. he followed the tune as though he was hypnotized by it, until, he reaches at the large camellia trees that reaches atleast 20 meters, there he saw a handsome young boy wearing a white vest, with his golden eyes glowing thanks to the pale moonlight above that illuminates him.

the way how he move his hands was as soft as the wind, especially his expression full of sadness and sorrow as though he experience a lot of difficulty in his life. at this point, the young Chauncey couldn't help but to felt pity to him.

by the time he finish playing, chauncey started to applause him but his eyes widened when the young keir suddenly attack him out of nowhere using the bow he was holding, but chauncey manage to avoid his attack by stepping back.

"the piece you played.. it's so beautiful."

keir just gasp after hearing chauncey's praise on him, he slowly put down his bow. and started to blush slightly while scratching his face and avoided his gaze.

"Y-you think..?"

chauncey dashed towards him and hold his hands with his eyes started to sparkle like a child.

"Yes! Yes! what is the title of that piece? it's so beautiful that I almost cry!

"R-requiem in D minor by mozart. and please don't hold my hands."

he laugh at him before removing his hands, then after that, he smile as he introduces his self Infront of him.

"I'm Chauncey.. Chauncey steinhart! let's be friends!"

he held his hands Infront, but keir just stare at it expressionlessly, he then use his bow to accept his hands that makes Chauncey smile in awkward way.

"Zadkiel.. Zadkiel... léger, just call me keir."

"are you some kind of person who have an OCD?"

".. be thankful that I still accepted your hands, it's just means that I already acknowledge you."

"now you act like a high and almighty, are you a god or something?!"

"I'm a god's son."

"damn child." chauncey stare at him once more for atleast one minute as he burst into laugh while looking at keir with a hint of happiness on his face.

END OF FLASHBACK

that's the first time they met together, and for chauncey, it is one of the most precious things he doesn't want to forget, and the one that he wants keir not to forget.

which is why he keeps following him, annoy him, and sparring with him. since chauncey understood that keir needs a person who will understand him, he needs a person he can relied to.

yet.. chauncey didn't expect that he has an older brother. now that he think of it, keir never mentioned anything about devian as though they are completely stranger to each other.

"hey keir.. why did you change your surname anyway? you once uses a léger, right?" he asked out nowhere to him.

"ah, that.." his poker face turns into a meaningful one and added, " to annoy my older brother. when I found out that a new transferees was enrolled and one of them was my brother, I immediately head to headmistress and ask him to change my surname into xenon. I thought that if I do that, he'll get angry but as I expected.. he didn't." there's a hint of bitterness in every words that coming out on his mouth. even if it's not visible on his face, his eyes tells everything.

"Isn't it a good thing..?" asked chauncey, but keir clench his fist.

"It's not good at all.. the brother I know in the past was always scolding me for being stubborn, telling me what's right and what's wrong. but now.. he will just going to stand there using his poker face, telling me to do whatever I want. and I hate him because of it."

chauncey was just listening to him while looking straightly to his face, even if he already knew what was keir planning to do, he decided to keep it for himself and pretend as if it's just a normal conversation between a friend. he just keep listening to keir's story, while still smiling.

"you really care to him that much huh? I thought you're just a weird guy who called himself as a child of god but killed a lot of people."

keir pouted at him, "Hey! I'm really a child of god! and didn't you heard what I said earlier?! I hate him!"

"all right.. all right.. if that's what you want to say.." chauncey then giggled to him as he glance at the dim sky. a huge silence re-engulfed to them and only the sound of scorching wind can be heard, leaves started to fell on the ground as well as camellia petals, until, they heard the sound piano getting played by someone coming from direction of the music room, keir's eyes widens as soon as he realizes this tune.

it is a tune of requiem in d minor by mozart.

at this moment, Chauncey's fate was already determined.
